Indian wedding Services in Singapore

Hey ladies
Something crossed my mind. For those who are still searching for banquet venue for small grp did u consider hving it on a ferry? Indo Falcon provides wedding packages. Thot of hving it but cld cut dwn on my crowd. Hence had to forgo.

oh jus a word of caution about that...my aunty attended one such event and she said that they could not even have a proper sit down dinner since the waters happened to be choppy...and the bride was struggling to keep her balance with the heels and some of the guests fell nauseous...

Thanks Chick77,
I am looking for a clubhouse or Country club to hold my reception cos i have a guestlist for abt 400 people and i am expecting alot of my FH's relatives to come. Thats cos we are intentionally holding the wedding during the Easter holiday in Uk. I have narrowed down to a few, actually based on many criteria. Some of which are:

1) Capacity of the venue
2) Food Standard
3) Minimal Restrictions when to comes to decor
4) Convenience of the guests
and of course there are many more...but these are the things that i am considering when i scout around for the venues. Currently my fav is Yishun Safra Country Club...I am going for the food tasting session this sunday at New Dehli Resturant...If the food tastes well, i will go along with Yishun Safra. They just renovated their Ballroom and the ambience is quite nice with the huge staircase leading to the ballroom and there's a long bridge within the vicinity...the setting can be used to take pictures b4 the reception. But i am worried that the food sucks! Actually they have 2 in house caterers for indian food...One is New Dehli Rest and the other is Causarina Curry. The food tasting at Causarina went badly so i am trying New Dehli...Any comments on New Dehli, please share ladies...

Thanks Sphire...I will keep that in mind!

Sphire- No worries...I'm sure Ed would do a great job..

Chick77- I'm not 100% sure if i'm going with Jayce again for the wedding. I trust his work n feel very comfortable with him. My only concern is my pics looking too similar to the ROM ones. Otherwise i have no problems hiring Jayce.
Legends was not worth the price they charged. Since i had only 11 tables i had to pay a higher price per head. The food was catered from Riverwalk Tandoor which is a good caterer but the price i paid wasn't worth it. Service was not up to standard. I had paid extra for the ROM table set-up but they made mistakes like forgetting to provide pens for us to use. Had to use the JP's pen. For the amount they charged, i could have topped up a little more and gone to a hotel.

Ladies, i need your help. I'm also looking for a venue for my dinner reception. The Hibiscus room at the Hyatt is not available for the whole month of July next year and the garden terrace is due for renovations. I'm not too keen on the other rooms they have and can't meet the minimum requirement for their Grand Ballroom...

Any suggestions on where i can hold the reception? I'm considering Conrad now. Need to go down and view the ballroom etc....I need a place that can cater Indian food. I'd prefer to have it at a hotel but i'm also open to having it at an independent venue and catering food from elsewhere...Please help!

Hi SK,
I am facing the same problems as u...finding a place that serves good indian food...Most of the hotels don do indian except for a few...others serve intercontinental buffet. I have some independent venues in mind...

1) Orchird Country Club
-availability of function rooms that can hold from 180 to 400+++ people
-inhouse caterer is Raja Mas
-can bring in own caterer but u have to pay an extra charge per head
-my cousin did her wedding there and she hired Mayura Catering
- I should have the package with me but its at home. will email u if u want dear

2) Yishun Safra Country Club
- refer to my earlier posts

3) Spans-Jom Club house
- the ballroom can hold up to 250 people
- the rental is $600 (for members) and $800 (for non-members)
- the ambience is quite nice. they have a swimming pool and the staircase leading to the ballroom is nice and elegant
- They have a variety of inhouse caterers and u only have to pay $200 if u want to bring in your own
- the reason i din take it is cos the ballroom seems to be the location. its in balestier and the function has to end at midnight sharp or else the residents will complain.

4) YCK grassroots club
- conveniently located and they have 2 inhouse caterers...Gayathri and Mayura catering
- Function RM 1&2 costs abt $2500 and can seat ard 250 to 300 depending on whether u want to use the stage or not
-Multi-purpose hall can hold up to 500 people but the ceilings are very high and my decorator was telling me that no matter how much u decorate, the place wont live up to the ballroom kindda look.

5) Civil Service Club
- the ballroom can hold up to 300 people and its a long way from the entrance
- very disappointed when i saw the ballroom...it looks like the music room from school days. the ceiling is too low and they have their own decorations in place that cannot be taken out.
- in house caterers would be Mayura and Muthu's Curry

This is all i can think of gal...hopefully its useful to u...I will try searching for others ok Take care!

SK- Whts ur budget? I hv a few hotel quotes for indian spread. If u r interested, cld mail u. But prices cld hv changed by now. U cld use these quotes jus as a guide.

Kayla/SK - 1 more plc wld be Chverons. The inhse caterers are Gayathri and Riverwalk (if i'm nt wrong). They charge less than $40 per pax incl of wedding favours. FH sis held her recept there.

Ya Chevrons looks good...but its quite far from where i live. I came across new park hotel and they have indian wedding packages. SK maybe u can check their website.

Thanks for all your suggestions, gals. Sphire, are you taking an Indian package with Oriental? Care to share? Others welcome to email me at [email protected]

I'd prefer to have it at a hotel. My wedding date has been moved to Sunday 22nd July 2007 so reception will be held on 23rd July ( Monday ). Looking at around $85 per head.

Hi SK, my package with RTP is chinese menu. Its 928 nett. Although i did request for some Indian and Muslim packages from some of the hotels, including RTP. I can send it across to you. I am not too sure about the quality of the Indian food though..

Hi SK, sorry, i just realised i've got no Indian package, only 1 muslim package. But with the budget you've mentioned, some places to consider:

Hilton - the Panorama room on the 18th floor is newly renovated and opens out to the pool, which you can use for yr pre-dinner cocktail. Its 850 nett for weekend and 700+ for weekday. Not sure what they have for Indian menu though. This was my 2nd choice after RTP

Traders Hotel - i know they have a Indian fusion menu cos the guy showed us an Indian wedding couple pics...My FH likes big spacious ballrooms, so one of it was a bit narrow for him, the other is big, but there is no place for pre-dinner cocktail outside, its in the ballroom.

3) Grand Copthorne Waterfront. Rooms were not bad. But not too sure about the service/food quality. Heard the Chinese menu not so good.

4) York Hotel/Plaza Park Royal/Holiday Inn Park view - Din go to any of these hotels, but i think i read somewhere that HIPV or PPR has good indian food?? The cost for these are about $60-70 per head

5) How about Marriot? Since your dinner is on a weekday, you should be able to find a pretty good place with a budget of 85/per head.

K thats it from me....will look thru the packages and see if i find anything else...

SK/ Kayla - Have sent my Oriental package over. Oriental current price is $880+++ per table. My menu was tailor made and I topped up $$$$ for it. I've just requested to to change my finger food to Shark Fin soup. So waiting for final quote now.

Probably u gals wanna checkout Furama Riverfront and Waterfront. Loved both the ballrooms. But FH said place very inconvient. Besides these ballrooms have no pillars.

hi ladies,

wedding went well!I jus tgot hilarion's photos yesterday and they were so Beautiful! He really captured all the moments and I am so so so happy with them. All my guests loved him too.

Shanti's makeup was very good too. I was so happy with it

Sk/Kayla wht r ur criteria for the ballroom?
Mine was
- Must be able to sit 400 guests
- No pillars
- Wide ballroom rather than a long one
- High celling
- Hotel must have inhse indian chef

I was keen with the below ones
- Novotel Clark Quay - Hotel was above shopping mall. Din get the hotel feel when I we proceed from carpark to ballroom.
- Furama Riverfront - KTV was an eyesore
- Waterfront - Felt amt quoted was too heavy for the hotel.
- Ritz - Require min 600 guests for weekends. Felt wld be prob to handle crowd.
- Hyatt - Was prepared to sign on spot but ballroom pillar stopped us.
- Crown - Pillars at the side will block views if got too many tables.

In the end shortlisted
Raffles Town Club and Oriental.
Wanted to sign with RTC first. Their team sucks. I was told off by the coordinator for requesting sit down menu.
Sticked with Oriental. Contented with everything offered by Oriental.

Hi Sphire,
Oriental package looks great! Are u having both indian and chinese food? Do they go by head or tables when it comes to indian food? I read on their website that they charge $65 to $70 per head to cater indian food...not sure if thats for the wedding...Thinking of making an appt with them since my FH is coming down to singapore for only 2 days (strictly on business!). Must somehow squeeze this into his schedule...

Hi Mrs Mabel,
Congrats and wish u a happy married lIfe!!! Please share your pictures with US...

Kayla - Really? Do u hv the URL of the Oriental webby? If they provide Shark fin.. I guess thts gonna be chinese. Check out Oriental. Its really kewl and no regrets. Normally for table served is calculated at table price. Buffets are calculated as per pax. Mine gonna be table served.

Kayla - If u r really interested in Oriental. I cld tok to my coordinator for you. Cos my FH and I actually fought for lots of stuff that she was relunctant to give at first. She made us promise not to disclose to anyone. Cnt say much. But if u want I cld tok to her and c if she cn give u same perks and special price.

Thanks Darling! Ya maybe u can email me her contact number and i will make an appt with her asap cos i need to view the ballroom b4 i can bring my FH there right...U must have gone for the food tasting? How was it dear?

hi all...

Sphire- thanks for your email. I was looking through the net and writing to many hotels for proposals. Have an appointment with Oriental on Monday. FH sort of like their package too. However, i feel there's a lot i have to bargain for which other hotels usually throw in as part of the package. May i know what you got besides a tailor made menu...How abt charge for corkage etc?

Kayla- Marina Mandarin also came back with an Indian package. You may want to check with them.

SK
Yup she is. A very nice lady. Sorry SK. I hv promised her not to diverge the contract and some were hard bargains. If u want.. i cld tok to her.

Thanks Mabel for your compliments. You guys have been a wonderful couple beyond any description of words. Do keep in touch and have a good trip back to UK. Should you need further assistance, do not hesitate to email me at [email protected]

Thanks, Sphire. I sort of know what i want to bargain for so i'll talk to her. Should i need further help in bargaining, i'll let you know :p

SK - Ok. Sorri abt tht.

WOW! Din knw Shark Fin in Oriental cost a bomb! Will be going down to Oriental today again for last battle over menu...kekeke. Once its settle, we'll be ready to sign contract.

Kayla / SK - Hope Oriental does good to u too. Then we all cn be oriental brides...kekek.

Hi Sphire,

I will try to upload the pics on to an online photo album over the next week or so. Am off to Dubai today for my honeymoon. So take care everyone and happy planning

Chick- Spoke to William Saravanan. He charges by rolls for PG. $70/roll. For banquet he said abt 6rolls and temple abt 8rolls. Coffeetable is min $1200. For VG, banquet is abt $400 and temple abt $500. VG does not contain summary. Summary is charged at min $200 depends on raw footage length. Find it a little ex for banquet. For temple sounds reasonable. Wht do u think?

Hi Sphire..thought william would be cheaper. My FH saw William's pics and said edmund's was much better. But then again, our frens requested for no touch up, so its not really apple-to-apple comparison.

Think advantage of getting William for temple is that he would know what parts of the ceremony to shoot etc. U mentioned rolls - does that mean he doesnt do digital pics?

For my case, since i need like 1.5 day (1/2 day-temple, 1/2 day church, 1/2 day dinner) coverage, it may be cheaper to get 1 PG or VG. Mite do WIlliam for temple pics, but VG i think i might stick to 1 VG for both days.

Have you made appt to see his portfolio?

Chick
Yup... I guess Edmund's PG is much better. William still hs the indian touch to the PG. Although he did say its rolls, he did say its digital... maybe he converts. Will not b meeting him at the moment... probably next yr since I'm only goin to engage him for temple wedding.

My FH has a VG contact frm a fren. Will update u once he has contact the VG. FH is busy working day n night hvnt got tm to call.

Hi guys!

Met up with Kelvin from Lighted Pixels and Jonathan from Expressively *oho. Both are very nice guys. And I really like the sharp and vibrant colors of Kelvin's and the effects of Jonathan (soft touch, warm glow, etc). So I'm torn who I should go with for my pre-wedding shoot and actual day photography!!! Help!!

Meantime, had a look at Royal Plaza on Scotts. Capacity is 110 max. But really charming with its full windows of greenery. Not sure if my mother can work with a capacity like that though. She's still is not certain how many she's inviting to the banquet. Hyatt was nice too. Camelia Rm which fits our guest list size is boring looking. But when they do it up, it looks gorgeous. They even have black seat covers! Very sleek!

Mabel, glad to hear all went well!!! So happy for you!!! Let us have a peek at your photos when they're ready eh? ;)

Holly, Scarlet was too ex for us. Their packages of 65+++ or 85+++ don't even include drinks!! But I do agree. It's very stylo mylo. Very chic with its opulent decor!

Btw, met with Shanti and have to say, although she's very passionate about her job, she was late for our meeting. She did call to say she'd be late (it was her work). And then, she got the meeting place wrong. By the time we actually met her, it was 45 minutes after our pre-arranged meeting time! She holds a full-time job with a bank so here's my question: Would you be worried if your MUA is a part-timer with a full-time job?

Wedding saree tying - is it true that you cannot tie your wedding saree (the one where you have to change into at the temple) gujarati style (where the palu is in the front)?

Decorative Eye Make-up - is anyone going w/o the little dots above the eyebrows? when I told Shanti i didn't want that, she was very insistent on the dots, saying its a very North Indian look and I won't regret it.

Sorry, backtracking to some earlier posts cos I havent been here in ages.

Sphire - Won't be taking DiGio's photographer. Going to either go with Kelvin or Jonathan. Really torn between the two.

Chick - I know you asked sometime back but have you already rec'd the rates from Jonathan? if not, you can pass me your email add.

Have also thought of the Altivo at Mt Faber but logistical problem with transport.
sad.gif
Saw the Hibiscus room at Hyatt. Yeah, it was really gorgeous!!! But its a bit ex for us (close to $100 nett on a weekend) and the min. capacity is 250. Too big for us.

Hey Rany, you cld do Jonathan ( soft/romantic) for pre-wedding shoots since it's just you and ur hubby and Kelvin ( sharp & vibrant)for Wedding day cos there will be guests, more colours..etc..what u tink??

I just came back from San Francisco...loved it so much..the 1st 2 days was so foggy..it felt like winter..freaking cold..and then it cleared up on Mon & Tues...sunny and windy...PERFECT weather!!

Girls, anyone good at cooking..i am sick of the same old dishes...can share some receipes??

Thanks Sphire..for VG contact when u get it :-)

Rany - welcome back gal. I've already got Jonathan's rates, thanks anyway. Will b making appt to see him next week. Sorry cant advise much on kelvin cos he's already taken for my AD, so din look at his portfolio. Heard good comments about him though.

Holly - yr trip sounds fun. miss the road trips i used to do when i was working in Connecticut.. unfortunately i cant cook..hehe..so erm cant really help in that department..hey was ernst from Mir*r creations yr VG? Any comments?

Hi Ladies
Rany - Think I go long with Holly idea. Jonathan for pre-shots and Kelvin for AD. Hv they taken indian traditional weddings before? U may want to look at their portfolio before confirming.
How many tables are u considering? NE location in mind?
Do not know abt the saree thing. I've seen brides tying their first saree with pallu infront and second one behind.
I'll most probably be puting the dots. ITs once in a lifetime. Think it looks kinda cute too.

Holly - WB gal. Glad to knw u hv enjoyed ur trip. Sori mi dont cook.

Chick - Sure will get back to u once I've the contact.

hi all,

Holly-you might wanna try the following websites for some recipes:

Rany- I agree with Holly and Sphire. I would have liked to go with Kelvin of Lighted Pixels but he's beyond my budget. But if you can, i suggest you go with him for your actual day. However, make sure he has done indian weddings. Someone sent me a link to his gallery and there is an indian couple's reception featured. ( i can't seem to paste the url of the link here )

Being north indian, i'd probably go with the dots above the eyebrows but i think depends on each individual's preference. Have it done only if you want it and feel comfortable having it. There are many other things that north indian brides adorne which i'm not going to at my wedding.

hey rany i was totally against the dots too since it seems like a old fashioned thing...but i changed my mind after seeing mabel ;) shanthi uses nice bindhi to do up the dots and i think it looks very pretty and more like a bride after that...so i guess im going to go for the look also...but trying to get out of wearing a plait now cos i find that look too traditional...

SK/ Kayla/ Rany - Did u guys check out Hilton? The proposal given to me sounded good and menu was fantastic. Hilton couldnt accomodate my crowd. If i'm not wrong, Hilton quoted me abt $80 per guest. Interested I'll send u the proposal.

Hi ladies,

Sorry i have not been posting lately cos i am facing some problems at the moment...they really came up suddenly...On wednesday i was looking thru the lunar calendar to find a suitable date for my cousin's ROM...Most hindus believe that all auspicious ceremonies esp weddings should take place when the moon is waxing, not waning...its considered as unauspicious...TO MY HORROR, I REALISED THAT MY WEDDING DATE WAS DURING THE PHASE THAT THE MOON WANES!!! this is not what i need at this time...paid $250 for the Mandapam at South Bridge and i think its not refundable if i change the date. Sigh.....But then again i was kindda pissed at the Priest who gave us this date...it was so irresponsible of him to do sucha thing esp since we gave all the details of our birth date and time. Luckily i found out in time...at least i haven booked any venue for banquet...So we are looking for an alternative date...probably my wedding's going to be brought forward...Just when i tot i had the date settled, the whole world's crumbling for me!!! i had a hard time to get this date since i had to consider whether its holiday time in the UK and all that.Feel like i have to start from scratch...luckily my FH is very supportive and is willing to talk to my family abt this....i will update u all on how it goes ok...take care and have a nice weekend everyone...

hey kayla...sorry to hear abt that...if the priest gives the date then it should be auspicious right...cos my mum told me that not all times where the moon is waning is considered inauspicious...some still are auspicious...so maybe urs is such a date...if not the temple would not have approved of the booking in the first place right? if both u and fh and not too superstitious why don't u go ahead with that date?

Hi Infinite,
My FH and i are not that supersitious but how can i proceed after knowing that something's wrong? It will constantly bug me until the wedding or even after that...luckily we have found a date around late march that is both suitable for us and is during the waxing moon. so the 2 impt criterias are fulfilled! Now i have to battle it out with the temple staff so that my deposite doesnt get forfeited...Guess the lesson to be learnt here is that nothing should be taken as its given and i realise that i should have reminded the priest of such criterias...

Kayla - Sorry to hear abt ur date. Prob u got to check which calendar the temple is following. Indian and Singapore mooning is different... so got confusing. Thot temple shdnt be wrong. Good that u hv found a date. Prob u cld talk to temple to change date cos its their fault in the first plc. Hope everything falls in plc for u.
