happy.gif
AD will be def more different where u cant try out different types of gowns or accessories or hairdos...

Mabel - Have a lovely time at the wedding and wear that gorgeous smile of yours!! Remember, you are the star of your wedding and it's all about YOU.

Kayla, SK - Welcome onboard girls!

Sphire, Chick - Don't worry about too many photos. I'm getting a freelance photographer to do pre-wedding shoot but I don't think it's too many photos. Afterall, we'll be in a diff set of clothes (wedding gown n casual) and the setting will be diff from that of a temple. So can't compare lah.

Chick - When you met up with Edmund, did he still try and push the B/W pics? When I read the comment of how he was pushing for B/W pics becos Indian weddings tend to be colourful and hence, distracting, I was appalled. I don't agree at all. I think the photographer should take advantage of the burst of colours because that is what Indian weddings are about. Celebration and colour. If you have B/W photos of an indian wedding, that doesn't say "Indian Wedding" at all. I do agree that there'll be some amt of B/W to capture some pensive/timeless moments but not the whole lot or more than half the lot.

Hi ladies,
Has anyone here tasted the food from New Dehli Restaurant? I am supposed to go for the food tasting session over the weekend. Just want some feedback...It is recommended by Yishun Safra Country Club...The ambience of its ballroom is quite nice and they allow decorators to be brought in. Initially i tot of doing the banquet at a hotel but after preparing the guest list (which came up to 450!), i realised its going to cost me a bomb!!! So i am looking into other alternatives like Country Clubs...If u have any suggestions, please share with me...Thanks...U know i was talking to my FH abt what i have been doing so far...and he pointed out to me that i seem to be more into the BS & PG & Attire thingy than more impt things like tHE Venue and Food...So typical of gals...OUCH! that was a reality check for me...So i better take one step at a time.Must settle with the venue first....

Hi Mabel,
All the best for your wedding...Keep your cool dear!

Chick - Yup, you're right. My fiance's in town and so far, we've got quite abit done. Hopefully next week we can go into veg-out mode and have some time to ourselves. Here's my update so far:

Bridal: Di Gio - Booked only a gown and suit for the pre-wedding shoot with them. Prob won't take up their photography pkg as we much prefer a freelancer.

AD PG: Met with Jonathan Ho of expressively *oho. He's a nice bloke, very honest and upfront. Love his AD shots. He's done one other temple wedding before but he doesn't have any samples of that portfolio. Haven't made booking yet though.

Sarees: Bought the temple wedding sarees from Stylemart. Not as expensive as my fiance and I had expected.

Looked at the lenghas too but nothing grabbed me.

MUA: Met with Bubbly, saw her portfolio and Shanti's portfolio. They're both very good but I think I'm leaning more towards Shanti. Have not made a booking yet though.

Sherwanis: Indian Saree Emporium - Recommended. Spoke to a woman called Ms Kumari. No hard-selling and she showed us a catalogue where we could tailor make a sherwani from. I was looking at lenghas and instead of pushing me to buy one from their current selection, she asked me to come back in Oct because that's when the Deepavali shipment comes in and I have a wider range to choose from.

Stylemart - very beautiful selection of sherwanis there too.

Sheetal - service was ok but a wee bit aloof.

Haniffa's - nice sherwanis but staff wasn't very pleasant when we said we wanted to take our time to think about it.

Banquet: Vansh - nice and very uber-cool modern! Food was nice. Might be a squeeze for even about 150 people! There is an alfresco section, main area and a smaller area near the bar, meaning that guests will be sectioned off, which isn't very condusive. Accessibility to the restaurant is also a problem.

So we've asked for quotes from Scarlet Hotel, Royal Plaza on Scotts, Grand Hyatt and Mercure-Roxy.

Anyone seen Royal Plaza on Scotts function room? It looks pretty in the photo. Full-length windows that have garden views. Really like the pkg at Grand Hyatt but need to see if the room is pretty. I confess, I'm a sucker for decor and would hate for a typical hotel banquet room setting. That's why I really like Vansh but shame about the capacity and location.

Infinite & Rany - thanks gal for the head up on teh BS. My gfs are also saying the same. Prob wld still go ahead.

Chick - Yes wanted to ask u the same thing also. Did Edmund mentioned abt the colours and B&W? Did u notice that the actual shot and edited ones were far fetched? But still like him...kekeke. Like the magazine look he gives the edited pics.

Rany - Kewl.. neat homework done gal.
Di Goi has very elegant WGs. Who's ur PG?
Havnt met Shanti. But spoke to her. Bubbly is also nice. My goin wif Bubbly is becos of the lengah rental.
Agree with u on Sheetal and Haniffa. Check out Nalli. Saw they had serwani for $99..if they r still on sale. Service.. baddd.
If u take Mercure... its near my place...kekeke. Try Hyatt Hisbiscus room. Heard its the best. Or try Holiday-Inn. Their ballroom the grandest I've seen. Cldnt take my crowd. Did u try Oriental?
Enjoy the company of your FH and hv fun.

hi kayla, yup that girl in the website is ME!!! Hehe...thanks for the compliment. I never regretted engaging Jonathan for my AD. We were soo happy with him that hubby and i wrote a testimonial for him too...

Hey Sphire, my hubby's a Chindian too....
I have heard alot of good reviews on YC's gowns and PS shots so you have noting to worry girl!! Did you read YC thread??

Hi Rany, it's great that Scarlet is one of your options. I love their deco, very cozy and romantic. Food's yummy too!!

Hey Mabel, have a great time ya...enjoy every moment of it...

Holly - Yes lady. Read abt them before booking. Scared after my first experience with the other BS. Wow... ur HB is in the same boat as me then. Wherever I go, ppl speak to me in Malay.

Wah..so many posts :-)

Rany/Sphire - Suprisingly, Edmund didnt mention anything about going for B&W pics. He said he would pick some from the portfolio to do in B&W e,g if the MUA is late and the face is not done yet, etc..But that was it. I really kinda like Edmund, especially his editing..all the zits and scars gone, getting a sharp nose..hehe..okie, i am getting carried away...

Hey Rany, can you share Jonathan's rates pls? You've made great progress gal :-)) erm, would you be interested in Legends@Fort Canning? I think they have a min of 20 tables though...Other places to consider..Asian Civilisation Museum (ACM) near Indochine, there's a place at Mt Faber as well....if u wan something different..

My appointments with Tommy and Chris today have bn postponed.

Sphire - u met up with Don from Forest yet? Supposed to meet with him tomorrow...but hvnt confirmed...

Hi Holly - the one on Jonathan's website had an Indian couple in a church?? That's u?

Infinite..Yeah i am trying to convince myself that more pics are good..hehe

sphire- Haah...yea..in Singapore...ppl tink he is Malay and when he is here in US, they think he is mexican or columbian becos of his long hair and tanned skin...haha..

Chick- Maybe Edmund reveled too much to us... hai. He said the wrong things infront of my FH. Remember the nose job he did for the groom and the eyebag for the other. Good ah? My FH said "wait edit until dont look like mi".
Din meet up with Don. He's already booked on my date.
Lady.. mi checking out Kenneth from www.tsangstudios.com He's pics are also quite good and price quite reasonable.

Holly - we chindians get the best of all worlds..kekeke. Cn u imagine.. my collgues thot I was an indonesian when they first saw mi.. whenever I help my boss they call my indo maid.

Sphire..k me shall check kenneth out. Where did u hear bout him? Looked at his charges, seems the same as Edmund? Me also looking at William Chua, got appt with him on Sun. Haha..yeah i saw the nose bit and eyebag editing. But seriously,I think the people still looked like they did even with all the editing. Did u see the indian gal, her colour was brightened to b bit rosy? For me, i've got no probs with editing, i'd rather the pic looks nice..Seems like yr FH dun really like him. Its impt that u get sm1 u guys are comfy with. M sure there'll b others who are as good as Edmund....

Chick - Got to know abt Kenneth, William and a few others on clubsnap. William quot is way out for mi. Kenneth pics are real kewl. Think he is charging a little low for his compositions. I jus considering Ken. Trying to get the figures lower. Crossing my fingers.
My FH actually liked Ed's work. Only thing after meet up was fiction vs reality.

hi gals...think that phtographers should celebrate the colours of the indian wedding instead of making it bland in b/w...but i realized quite a number of professionals mention that its pretty difficult to take an indian wedding bcos there are 2 many colours and it becomes difficult to focus..and it must be true cos so many of them say the same thing...even hilarion whom i got for my rom said the same think but photos turned out nice and he din ask if i wanted b/w...all of it was colour and i felt that some pple looked better in the photos than even in real life cos the lighting made them have flawless skin
happy.gif

hey gals..jus wondering..if say photographer quotes u $xxx per his website etc, do we still negotiate? M really bad at this and i scared they get offended la. Cos they look like arty kind, where the photos r their work of art etc..

Btw Sphire..i think William's charges also similar to edmund lei..unless we are gettin different quotes...Compare notes? I can email u package i got fr william, can email me Kenneth's one? Also any idea how much William Saravenan charges? I think the difference in all these packages is a few hundred?

Infinite - are u going with Hilarion for AD? Too bad he's already taken for my date..

chick: sadly nope...parents in law are handling all the AD stuff so left it up to them...let them feel happy doing all this accOrding to how they want since fiance and i had all our wishes for the ROM reception...takes my mind off sourcing out everything also and i can focus on the house once its ready...

Infinite - I think the chinese PGs all hv the same concept. Tht was also Ed's concern. And also my FH's. Now he thinks Chinese PG cnt handle indian functions. How do I make him understand?
I'm thinkin in the same line as u for my AD. Only my FH and I come in where location, food, MUA, PG and VG concern. The rest i'll leave it to my ILs and Mum. This way cn concentrate on Hse.

Chick - Sure will update u on Ken once I've received the quote. Not sure of Sara's price. Hv u contacted him? Not as bargain... more like wht u expect for returns. Ken quoted mi his ROM package and $50/hr as stated in his webby. 4R prints gt to pay as stated as well. So I c it as alcarte. I've asked him to quote mi without any prints. Only soft copies. Then I cld print myself. Hopefully this will come close to $500.

sphire-the best way to make him understand...show him bad work done by Indian PGs if u can find any..with the cheesy poses and editing and that might put him off
happy.gif

oh ya black box also has done indian weddings...i saw the portfolio of sr nathans daughters weddings when i went to have a look...
oh ya and i hear lightedpixels also does a good job...

Infinite - He's aware of the indian standard. He jus say "Tell them those poses dont want."
U mean that was SR narthan daugther? Dont u find the pics were taken a little too far?
Lightedpixel Kelvin is not avaliable on my date.
I've kinda shortlisted 3. Edmund Leong, Kenneth and Jayce Wong. All abt $600. Got to brainwash FH.

Hi Ladies,
Hey i tot SR Nathan's children are very old and they have children of marriageable age? cos i went for his grand-daugther's wedding in March this year since she married my FH's best friend. Ya i agree with Sphire that the pictures were taken too far away and most of the impt moments were not captured. Thats the problem with taking non-indian PG...Hey tell me more abt William Saravanan...How's his photography style and charges like? Finally the weekend is here...I am planning to check out Stylemart and Looks tmr...Hopefully things go as planned...take care dearies...

Wow! You gals seem to be busy with a lot and making good progress and i have hardly started. Went to check out Hyatt and liked the Hibiscus room (grand ballroom too big and i wont be having more than 200 guests). Actually liked their garden terrace the best. It has always been my dream to have an outdoor wedding/reception. But the garden terrace is due for renovations soon so don't know if its gonna be available.

Holly, thanks for sharing the photos. You looked gorgeous and were beaming with radiance
happy.gif
. If i'm not mistaken, your hubby and i come from the same secondary school.

Hi Sphire i am pissed with Don from Forest. When i checked with them on their availability at first, they said they were ok. Later when they found out that its going to be a temple wedding, they've come back and said that Don is going to be tied up with some corporate event. DId you tell him it would be a temple wedding before he said NO to your date?

THanks SK, It was the happiest day in my life..i hardly slept that night before my wedding but the adrenalin kept me going till 4am the next mrng.
Were you from Siling Secondary school located in Woodlands? He is from there..

Chick, yup that's me on Jon's website..

Kayla - Not sure much of William Saravanan. Only know that he was engaged my friend last month. Hvnt gone down to look at her album.

SK - R u goin for indian spread?

Chick - The same. The lady din tell mi Don was not avaliable but she asked mi for my details. Then when I told her my details she said Don is already booked for a corporate function. In a way its good that they back off before we waste more time with them. Kenneth still hvnt got back to mi.

Holly- Yup, i'm from Siling too

Sphire- The food at my reception has to be indian. Its kind of a traditional thing. So if i do go with Hyatt, it would be the indian spread.

SK -Good choice. Hyatt is the most famous for indian spread. The ballroom jus drew us out, if else it'll be Hyatt for mi.

Hi SK - nice pics...Can i check if Jayce did any editing? Btw, how about Conrad?

Holly - Can i check the same as well if Jonathan did any editing?

Btw..My FH called William Saravenan yesterday, but he's supposedly v busy for the next 2 weeks, so we can only meet up with him after that to look at his pics..Unfortunately my FH din get the rates off him but we're tyring to get that info from a fren who used him for their wedding..And like a couple of you gals here, my FH is thinking of engagin 2 different PG for the temple and church/baquet AD....As for me, i wanna c William's pics b4 i make a decision...

Sphire..just got the quote from Jonathan, its much higher than Edmund's and the rest so far..but m trying to fix up an appt to see the portfolio first....

Hi Ladies,
Went to Looks and Stylemart yesterday...
First of all at stylemart, they din even have an up to date album and the one that they had was taken 5 years ago and it was badly tattered...whats with that man? i was quite disappointed as i wanted to see recent work of shanti...but no doubt the makeup was natural and flawless. However, their bridal shoot packages are quite pricey yet they don include a portrait. Overall, i wasnt impressed but was more into the sarees that were on display...hehe...Somemore my mum told me that the sarees at Stylemart were always priced 3 times their actual price but all their stuff are very unique.

Next, went to Looks...Bubbly is a very nice person. i felt as if i was talking to my fren! I really like that she's willing to go the extra mile to be with me at every step of the wedding preparations. but not sure whether she is going to charge for that. the photos were much better than of most Indian BS. but i wasnt happy with the way some of the photos turned out...For eg, there was a picture of this guy whose face was covered with so much powder. Made me question the PG's editing style. and most of the shoots were very posey...and i told her that i wanted more candid and incidental photos and she said that i can talk to the PG and incorporate my ideas. can show him the exact photo and tell him I WANT THIS! Looks have an impressive range of lenghas though...and Bubbly's makeup looks very modern and natural as well. PLus, their package offers 2 outdoor locations. I am sure that u guys must have checked out Looks so please share with me why u din not sign up with them for your BS?

I sent an online enquiry to JOHO and he replied saying that he'll be doing an indian wedding this sunday...wonder if its mabel's? hehehe... Ya he quotes a higher price but i din get what he meant by unlimited digital photography...plus the albums and prints are charged seperately...Sigh...Ed's package seems more reasonable.

hi chick, nope..Jon din edit our faces/body shape..We look absolutely what we are. He played with the colours and lighting i tink.

Hi SK, Like your saree!! Shots are good... particularly liked the one where u were walking on the field with hubby.
I showed your ROM pics to my hubby but he cldn't remember you...are you guys from the same year??

Girls, will be driving down to San Francisco tomorrow mrng..so won't come here for the next 5 days.

Mabel, once again Happy wedding and hope you have lots lotsa fun!!

Hi Ladies.. very good day to u.

Chick- Jo quoted mi x2 of Ed. Cant compare both of them. The experience and photo compositions are very different. Ed give a magazine look touch to the photos. Jo gives the natural. Dont think he does lots of editing on photos as Ed.

Kayla - Me din go with Bubbly becos din knw abt her. I signed my BS at the beginning of the yr. Somehow I still think I'll still go with my BS even if I knew. Bubbly's PG doesnt seem to hv the catch. Did u actually take a look of any AD photos at LOOKS? I keep asking but still hvnt seen.

Hi Sphire,
That was my main concern when Bubbly said that she has done alot of BS and AD but don have the albums with her. I mean Photos are the first thing a customer would expect...it was quite disappointing and think that its very unprofessional...i am thinking of going for a trial makeup sometime next week...maybe that will clear all the doubts. Furthermore, today i asked her the name of her Inhouse PG...she said he is known as CK. din give me the name of the production house that he belongs to.

Hi Holly - was on clubsnap, saw yr coffeetable pics..gorgeous..Will mt with Jo, think i've yet to learn how to tell the difference in the PG styles..

Kayla - why dun u jus rent the lengha from Looks, but get some other photographer?

Kayla - I'm not in position to judge her PG or VG. They may be good. But on the other hand, there's nothing shown to mi abt their talent. Did u realise that all the album on display were actually models? Where's the real?... ???? If i'm happy with the trial, I'll go for makeup and lengah for banquet frm Bubbly.
Unlimited shots means Jo will keep taking shots without a specific count. It cld be 600 or 800.

Chick - Not to worry abt PGs too much. With edit or no, the final pic matters. I've finally convince my FH and we r goin with Ed. Got to check if he's still avaliable on my date.

MABEL...
U might hv already gone thro the tradition by the time u read tis. Happy married life, sis. Do post us ur pic okie? BTW, who's ur PG and VG? Tht's the hot topic now.

Holly - Thanks for the clarification. Tht had slipped my brain..kekeke.

Ladies
Went for my trial at LOOKS yesterday. She did use mordern tones on mi and did look natural. I look very much chinese after the makeup. Will be goin for another trial and goin to ask her for darker tone makeups to give my more indian look. Hv not signed package with her as din hv time yesterday. Most probably will be goin down in 2 weeks time.

Hi Ladies,

Thanks Sphire for the feedback so now i know what i should look out for...I am going for a trial this sat. Actually i've got a ROM ceremony to attend on that day as well so its a good opportunity to give LOOKs a try. Btw i also checked out the Indian Saree Emporium on friday. Think its a great idea to choose our own design and work...somemore its MTM...Prices range from $250 and take abt one month to tailor from india. Felt quite relieved after going there cos i also want to put the same amount of emphasis and effort on my FH's wedding attire as mine. With this he can have exactly what he wants...Ladies, i am feeling the rush now cos i will be going to UK in sept and will only return with my FH in dec...must at least have the venues, caterers, BS, PG & VG booked before i leave! And must have a few places in mind on where to get the invitations printed and entertainment etc...Feeling very stressed already...HELP!!!

Kayla - Relax babe. For the trial at LOOKS... I'm a mix. So when I use pink tones... My chinese genes somehow take more empasis. I wont hv the nice indian assets like the eyes and nose. I want a more indian look. So darker makup at least will tone down the chinese in me. If u hv indian assets pink shade could make u look sweeter.

Hi Sphire,
Maybe i should bring my outfit along on sat so she can decide which colours would suit me the best...Actually i am quite paranoid abt my makeup..so worried that my face and neck will look as if they belong to 2 different persons!!! but usually during trials, they put on lesser makeup right?

BTW will anyone of u go for trial makeup for the traditional wedding i.e. with the full head ornaments and all that? My mum was suggesting that i should go for one to decide which set of ornaments that i should go for. U know there should be a few types of wedding ornaments...temple jewellery, pearls only, stones only etc..PLease share...

Hi All.....

Mabel- Congrats!! Do share your pics, pls...

Sphire- Jayce did a great job in capturing the right moments. If you are considering him, i'd say go with him. He's really friendly and easy to work with. My FH and I are definitely not the type to pose for pictures etc...In fact we both dont really like taking pictures but Jayce made us feel really comfortable during our ROM photoshoot (since we had our ROM at the Legends, Fort Canning, we decided to take some shots around Fort Canning)

Chick-Well, all Jayce did was some special effect and play with the colours...some black & white shots and some variation in colours and for special effect, like the shot where my FH and i are walking and the rest of the area is blurred...We were considering Conrad too but i find Hyatt's package more comprehensive and furthermore we arent having many guests..Conrad has a minimum of 350 guests during the weekend.

Holly-The saree was from Stylemart. I got compliments from everyone. They may be pricey but they do have some very nice stuff. Although i must say that i did have some problems with their stitching. I got the saree stitched into a ready made one, where all i have to do is to zip it up like a skirt. I had to get it re-done 3 times before they got it right. I sat for my 'O' levels in 1995. Your hubby must have been a batch or 2 before me. I used to be in the girl's hockey team. I do look quite different now so maybe he doesn't recognise me.

Kayla - Guess u hv to tell Bubbly to apply some on ur neck too. Cos she din do it for me.. hence cn c colour difference when i photo. *Bring a camera along and take pics. Sometime cant say difference with nake eye*. Bringing along your outfit is a good idea. I'll most probably go with her orange lengah. So she did tone my makeup to match the orange outfit. After makeup also tried on the jewellery to match. I also brought along SIL for opinions as I'm not a makeup person.

Hi Kayla, hang in there. You've got another 2+ weeks. Have u shortlisted venues etc? Will u be having a dinner at a hotel or restaurant? If you can outline what further information u need, maybe we can all chip in and help...

Sphire - pink doesnt work for me. I need orangey base to brighten up the face. Have u done trial with Shanthi as well? Btw, how long does the trial take? That'll be the next project after i settle PG and VG. Actually its really good to have this forum, at least i wont be slacking :-)

SK -Thanks, Will check Jayce out..Are u gonna use him for yr wedding as well? Btw, i was considering Legends for my dinner, but we cldnt mt the min numbers..so how was it? ANy feedback?

Kayla - I guess... I'll definately go for the trial when the time comes.

SK - Thanks for the info on Jayce. I've already confirmed with Ed. Thanks again, dear.

Chick- Mi din contact Shanti after the enquiry. I'm sticking with LOOKS. I feel I cld express my views and objections with Bubbly easily. I feel the chemistry. Hearing for the ladies here, Shanti must also be equally good. Dont want to be tangled btw both. Bubbly was very nice and very patient yesterday. My trial took a long while (abt 1 1/2hr). My FH gave his views and Bubbly made changes accordingly and unconditionally. Not only mi. Everyone there felt at ease with her and her mum.
