Indian wedding Services in Singapore

hi gals, it's been awhile since i popped in and wow - you guys have been busy! truth is, i have been soooo busy, sometimes i feel like i'm gonna explode with all this information. you see, i've got about 10 days left in the country and i need to finalise my temple food, decor, party venue, henna, hair....and god knows what else bec. the next time i'll be back in singapore, it'll be dec and with maybe 2 weeks to my wedding. ARGH! but i guess most of u know my frustrations...

right now...looking for a good VG. sounds like this william saravanan guy got good reviews...anybody got his number?? thanks in advance..

meanwhile, so much has happened! congrats to the beautiful brides of weekends past and to the ones who will be the 777 brides! everybody is too busy to talk to us because of you lot ;P

Hi Apryl, Why are u dissapointed about it?? The photography wasnt good?? My cousin was planning to take him..ooopss...please share you experience...

Hi plp. let me share my experience with u. i just had my wedding and with my friend recommendation, i book henna freelancer name sutha for my mehendi nite. wow! i, even my family members were very impressed with her art. she is really talented person. she was quite friendly person.

im a person who dont feel comfortable whenever im with a stranger. my hands keep pirspiring. i was little scared whether my mehendi color will turn red coz of wet hands and hw the designs gonna turn out as i dont really knw this person. but for first time,i felt v.comfortable with her. my hands didnt pirspired and knw wat. my mehendi turn dark red. i never had such color in my life. thanks to my friend who recommend to her. and also to sutha. she did a great job.

you can view her designs at http://sjhennadesigns.blogspot.com. i can give my word..u wont get disappointment.

have a great day!

Hi Suhana,

Honestly i wasnt at all impressed with the photos. Most were ordinary pictures and my frens who used their own cameras had better shots. Instead of the professional pixs, i used fren's photos for my personal album because the angles were better and more personal not just random shots to make up the rolls.

More over he is not an honest individual he is a marketing brochure tat blows the trumpet but doesnt deliver.

Apryl : Oh, Thats really bad, if im in your shoes, i will be so pissed off.. pictures are like for memory and damn if the pictures gets screwed i will be so disappointed.. but lucky your frens too some good shots of you..

Hey gals how's wedding planning going??

Sadly i used William too. I wish someone had warned me abt this photographer before. We (hubby, I and family) werent very pleased with him too.

But tot we were just unlucky since others had no issues before wid him (tat's what we TOT...hello i'm sure there must have been issues one way or another if the ethics he has r all screwed). Final verdict...i guess everyone just kept quiet. Sorry for being rude but i needed to vent my frustrations with this so-called professional photographer.

hi all!!
went for one make up trial.........didnt like it at all. cant stand it when they dont listen to what u like, and do their own stuff. Plus the foundation she used, made me darker!! oh my!!
So im going for MAC's trial this weekend...hope it turns out modern.
Anyone knows someone who can tie saree AND do the hair only? Cuz my wedding is a north indian one, and i need someone who can help to make the bun so to hold the head piece. help pls??

Celeste Kay: which beauty palour did you go for the trial? Hope your MAC trial will be good..
happy.gif

Saree tie there is this lady, KUM (97626537) ...

Piggy: OOh..so sorry to hear that william didnt do a good job...
sad.gif

Suhana: Thanks. ive already called Kums, she's so nice, but she cant do hair......
So hopefully i can find someone who can tie saree and do hair.

oops, i mean ONLY tie saree and do hair, and not charge so much.
ive called some, who are willing to do hair and saree, but they'll still charge the same, as if they're going to do all 3, saree, hair, & make-up.
Ridiculous rite?

Ooh my godness ... why not find someone who can tie saree /make-up and hair together... ermm...
Everything is getting so expensive in singapore..hahahahaha.. i called ashley that day regarding the hair do..
i nearly fainted hearing what he charges...
$250!!!! #&!%#& its crazy...

hey celeste,I just went for my trial as well at SPA's alangara...trial was quite cool...esp liked my eye make up...you can try them if you want...i fixed them for my make up,hairdo and tie saree juz to save all the trouble... ; )

Some of the MAC artist do their own private thingy.Dont take the package thingy, its expensive. So must approach the counter. Am going this fri will definately let u guys know how.I feel that MAC got good colours. can be quite bold lah their colours. But it depends on the aritst if he/she can play with colour in a beautiful way then good! Jus dont make me look like drag!!!

Should i mention who was the person that i had a bad trial with?
Am afraid she will lose customers if i do. Maybe how abt if i just mention the names of the good ones?? Wat do u all think?

My friend told me that Spa alangara does good eye make up too!! BUT she cautioned me that the lady always comes very late. She was 45 mins late for my friends wedding. So pls give them many reminders.

As for JUST tying saree and hair, the simple bun to hold up the dupatta, this lady is charging me $180!! my god!! Simple bun u know!!!

Hey all!
ive booked sutha for my ROM and wedding too! ;)
Are u guys putting on ur henna like 2 days b4 the wedding? cuz 'they' say that it takes 2 days for the colour to turn dark. But im planning to have my henna thingy the nite before?? bad idea ah?

Celeste, how to get the mac trial?
i need to purchase some makeup before my wed on 28 July 07, any particular brands to recommend for indian skin ? for foundation, lipstick, shimmer eye color, cheeks etc. i m totally a non makeup person and need a face lift urgently ;-> pls help girls. thank u thank u

well, i'm really glad i asked abt mr william saravanan!! do u guys mind saying what about his behaviour was unethical?

celeste, for this same reason, there's no harm mentioning services u're unhappy with. esp. with make-up, most ppl seem to take the attitude that what works for one may/may not work for someone else anyway. i think it'd still be great if you could share ur experiences, both the good and the bad.

would i be able to grab spa alagara's contact number?? i've tried searching for them online...to no avail..where are they located? thank u thank u

Hi all,

Jeinthi- i think u should try bobbi brown, or MAC. but i personnaly prefer MAC, esp if u wan glitter and bolder colour (great for wedding make-up). Bobbi brown more everyday kinda colours...
Oh and Estee lauder too! great bronzers and skin primer!!

im very particular abt my make up lah... i think that make up can make or break the look. i also feel that any one can claim to be a MUA, cuz its just putting colours on someone face, BUT a truly talented one can bring out the best in a person. most of the time, i just see colours on bride's face, and i feel like u see one bride, like u have seen them all.... the make up i mean. It is truly hard to find talented ones

Swarna - im not having a separate bangle ceremony. Just one time do everything. i call it the 'Mehndi party' do everything on one day, with only my girlfriends and sis in laws. having it the nite b4, so it will on Fri. hope to keep it fun and girly!!! haha!

Angelic Gal- No, they cant.

Thats why i need to find someone who can tie saree and do hair only, if i decide to go with MAC. My MAC trial is tom! so excited! will update u guys!

hi guys, soooo sorry i've been MIA.. thanks for all your best wishes.. the wedding went better than i could ever dream and i had the time of my life.... am off to bali today but will fill u in when i get back.. in the meantime, any questions, please email me at [email protected]

kisses

hi SK - how was your wedding? I can't believe I'm married!!!

The wedding at Fullerton went very well...it was a very sombre affair, with the solemnisation then the dinner. I had an even more amazing time at the Oriental's Garden Suite the next day though, cos it was really relaxed, with friends and all. The best man nearly cried during his speech!?! The service and food had compliments. We had the same setup both places - red and black. Both evenings were perfect!

Well, nearly perfect because my JP, Brother Emmanuel aka Pierre Paul Gaudette called a few days before to say he had to fly back to France urgently. His replacement, a M Nathan, was i'm afraid not very nice at all. He was rather haughty and because Brother Emmanuel didn't need a dinner seat, we didn't offer his replacement one either. Mr Nathan scolded us really bad for that. He also raised hell when no one was at the lobby to escort him upstairs. Honestly, I was really appalled at his behaviour and tried not to cry.

That aside, the 'gawn' night at Changi Cottage (before the Fullerton night) went really well too. We hired this Jaggo lady to lead in the singing and also a cool DJ that got everyone on the dance floor till midnight. The food was from where else - Riverwalk Tandoor. Shereen did my henna here and about 10 other of my hubby's cousins and aunties too. I didn't want to do my feet but succumbed in the end when many of his aunties pressured me into it. In the end, it looked really good and it's still very dark and clear.

We stayed two nights at his parents' house then moved into our new home 2 days ago. I feel a little homesick. Tried to be a good Punjabi wife and make my hubby breakfast today....heh heh.

Heya Brokenbudgie! My heartiest congratulations on the dream wedding! And my warmest wishes of laughter and love for your new journey with your loved one

Have a good weekend galz!

Hiya

I am new to this forum and have found this forum very informative.

My Fiance and I only recently decided to get married and have decided to do both the ROM and Temple wedding by end of this year. My ROM will be on 24 Oct 07 and Temple Wedding on 5 Dec 07.

We have been going around sourcing for a venue for the ROM and have finally decided on GRand Hyatt (thanks to my sis-in-law who has put in a lot of research sourcing for a venue for us). The Temple wedding will be taking place at Tank Road Temple.

Reading through all the exchanges, I never knew that there was so many things to do and am overwhelmed with all the information.

For info, this are what I have done so far:
1) Booked Temple for the traditional Marriage
2) Booked Hotel for the ROM Solemnisation and Dinner
3) Gave order for wedding bands
4) Booked Sutha (SJ Henna) for Henna works for the temple wedding.
5) Checking with Saheli Bridal on the make-up and hairdo packages.

Now I am currently looking for recommendations on Photographer and videographer for both events and maybe even a photoshoot beforehand.

Also any recommendations on where I can get a lehnga for the ROM ceremony. Any shops in seranggoon road that you guys would recommend??

Desperately need all the help that I can get since the ROM is 3 months away and wedding less that 5 months....

Hi ladies....

After months of planning, my wedding is finally over! Its was fabulous! Received compliments from everyone...Everything went well except for one thing...

It all started with my 'oil' ceremony on the Friday...This was a messy affair but i had fun notheless :-). My mom, sisters and aunt took pains in decorating the house and made it look wonderful..That same evening was my pre-wedding party (sangeet)...My make-up artist was running late and so i was panicking thinking i'd be late to my own sangeet. My parents went ahead and my sisters were supposed to drive me once i was ready. But i was too worried abt being late and drove instead :p. Imagine me all decked up, speeding down the expressway!! That was quite a sight! But i did make it in time and had a wonderful evening ;)..

The following morning was my henna ceremony at home. Got to spend quality time with my parents & sisters while having my henna applied. It took 5 hours in total to apply and i kept it on the whole day until it flaked off (the colour came out really dark on my palms)...That same evening was my bangle ceremony. Had my maternal uncles & cousin brothers put on my bangles for me. Got loads of gifts but my cousin brothers gifted me a beautiful diamond bracelet which was touching

The next morning was the wedding...My make-up artist arrived promptly and transformed me completely. When she was done, i was amazed

.
The ceremony and lunch went really beautifully. I also incorporated the tossing of the bridal bouquet..My youngest sister caught it!! Both hubby & me got compliments on our unique outfit colours...

The next day was the reception at the Hyatt. We were upgraded to the Grand Ballroom from the Sir Stamford Room. We went for the red and black theme and the ballroom looked gorgeous! We got so many compliments from our guests on the decor. My make-up artist did an amazing job again. I had 2 outfit changes and received compliments for both. I had a blast that evening!!

All in, i had the time of my life...The only glitch of the whole event were the laddoos we ordered from Bombay Cafe for the wedding day. They turned bad...We stopped payment of the cheques though and are waiting for an explanation from them! My parents and in-laws were furious!

Hi all,

Hey, it has been pretty quiet in here! where's all the brides to be??
Anyways, to update, im getting someone from MACto do my makeup for my wedding only. She not free for my ROM.
FOR ROM:
MU: Myself
Saree tying: KUMS

For wedding:
MU: MAC
Saree tying: Rashidah, cuz she can do hair, but kums cannot.

Dont know if i should go for make up trial with Bubbly or not? rite now im quite at peace with my choices. So maybe not.

Going to meet with Vanan from Pandora's box by next week, to discuss the temple deco.

Plus, me and husb to be have decided to rent a flat, while we purchase a flat. So have gotten the rental flat. Will have keys by Sept 1st.
Very exciting, but tiring. My Husb to be is overseas for work from July to end Aug!! Arrrrgh!!, so for now, im left to do all by myself.
Been shopping for home items too and its back breaking but FUN!!!
Juggling ROM, Wedding, and now new home, is too exhausting!!! But i see the dust settling!! Phew!! ;)
So girsl, pls spend some time here, to give each other support, and to keep the energy going! ;)
hope to hear from u guys soon!

Hello brides to be,
Ive been surfing the net relentlessly for a bridalstudio to do my pre wedding day shoots...can anyone recommend me a gd bridal studio that has gowns for rent, inhouse MUA and hairstylist? The wedding is in dec...so i really need to book one ASAP and it doesnt help that im not in singapore! So ladies if you know any good studios please holler...thank you!

wowow!! SK, I really felt I had been thru all your wedding events from the henna party to the dinner!! So glad to know that every thing went on well! Being satisfied and enjoying every moment of the event is the utmost criteria innit?

Yup agree wilth Celeste...its been quite quiet for a while now in here boy..Yesterday I collected the blouse for my ROM saree! cool...it was so nicely done!!Kudos to the tailor, he really did a good job! Cant wait to wear it for the event now ;)

I have settled most of the prep for my ROM on 25 Aug...only left with the ordering of the cake...

Any suggestions for 2 or even 3 tier cakes from you ladies?

Good morning gals,

SK congrats on ur dream wedding becoming reality. Apparently my in laws were at the wedding even saw the invite from ur husband's side (purple very nice).

Sorry cldnt make it. Do let us see the pix of ur beautiful attires. You must have looked ravishing. Uhmmm dunno abt ur ladoos though...wat was the packaging(red shiny drawstring bag!!!). Dun remember anyone at home commenting on them going bad. Anyway ladoos, small issue but yes do not pay those buggers.

Hello Swarna, you can walk into paragon and check out Cenele. They have really beautiful tiered cakes. Otherwise another option is The Patissier. You can check them out online. Bakezia has great cakes too but not sure abt tier cakes. My other favourite is Cakes-in-bloom custom-made cakes. I'm a big fan of cakes!

hi ladies,

swarna - u could also check out Cake Avenue. got both my ROM & Wedding cake from them.

piggy - hey, gal. thanks. hubby's invite is actually blue with white kundan stones. the mithai came in fucshia & black Bombay Cafe boxes. it was a mix of kaju katlis and laddoo.

Hi everyone. This is my first time using this forumboard. Been reading all your posts and am really impressed by how everyone is so willing to help.

I am getting married about a year from now and have started looking out for venues, decor and make up services. My biggest biggest worries are getting the right decor and right make up and photography. I am fair skinned and really dont want the make up to look Cakey and thick. Any suggestions? Preferably someone who can come to the house and do hair as well.

As for decor, I am looking for decor for my Sangeet. Sangeet and Mehendhi combined actually. I want to give it a very ethnic look. Like rajasthani or punjabi type theme with dhol drums and bangles as decor. Any idea who can maybe help me achieve this look?

thanks gals, will checkout all the mentioned confec for the cake...

Celeste, the tailor I went to is Kumar, his contact number 91016274...along one of the streets in little india...let me check and get back on the exact street name thou...if Im not wrong is along Upper Dickson road...

Hello SK...yup just realised i might be a lil colour blind...well anyway the names n date cldnt hv been for another couple plus venue....hehhehe.

Ok didnt see the ladoos.

Hello Diksha, do not worry you hv all the info rite here. I didnt get anyone for decor, however the gals here know some great decorators.

As for make-up, my favourite will always be Jyue Huey from The Make-up Room. She is now on maternity leave but back in business ard September. Her contact details are somewhere in this chat site, otherwise i've got her contact in this forum under 'The Make-up Room'.

As for photographer...do not do not go with Saravanand William. U'll be making the biggest mistake.

Happy planning u all.

im geting married in december....my bf is a indian christian and im a hindu.... we are having a sanadhi wedding...and a ROM and dinner at night....i actually went to so many people for trial makeup....menaka's assistant rani at jurong which was really bad....looked so heavy.....2nd was a chinese lady called candice from santiago bridal studio at tanjong pagar..she was no bad but the makeup was a bit dull but ot heavy....3rd was looks with bubbly which was very very bad...believe it or not my frend who saw the make up said that i paid 50 bucks to look like a 'bapoh'...lastly i went to aunty mala at spa alangara and she is really good, very natural and reasonable price for ROM makeup.......however for my sanadhi wedding, she quoted me 250 which i find very expensive for a half an hr ceremony....anyone can recommend me sumone good for the sanathi wedding wih a reasonable price....im nt using the rakodi and all......

also im looking for a christian solemeniser like a father or pastor who can solemenise my wedding with some christian prayers as my bf is a chrstian.....finding it so difficult coz since im not christian, many of them do ot want to solemenise the wedding.....getting really sad that people cnt view it as a happy occasson rather than a religious war
