My fiance will be in town from 10th on. So 11th might be tricky. How about we go back to our initial plan of the 4th (next fri) then? Sorry for giving everyone the run-about.

Chick - When you said that Shanti mentioned we could go down to Stylemart and take a look at the pics there, does this mean samples of her work of actual brides are at Stylemart? That's the impression I was given too so I'd just like to clarify.
Chick & Sphire - so do you guys just want to A) make a trip down to Stylemart to view the pics, B) meet with Shanti at Stylemart to view the pics and talk to her or C) meet with Shanti elsewhere and talk to her?

When she did my trial, I feel that my look was similar to that of Shanti's make up too. She is charging $380 for the temple wedding if im not wrong. If u want ampoule (some base that will make make up application last longer n smoother) or fake eyelahes it will be a little bit more. She charges according to wat u need and the number of costume change etc. So, price may vary. I like her. She is young and hip hehe.

As for the location of Sheetal, i think the best landmark is the temple entrance. Sheetal is just on the opposite side of the main road, facing the temple.

So I don't want my make-up sliding off my face 2 hours after I've been made up. Neither do I want to be mistaken for the Orang Minyak Bride. Hee!

its in dec...and i don't know whether to consider myself lucky or not but i'm not playing a major role in wedding preps...fiance and i did our rom exactly according to how we wanted last year so this time for the traditional wedding his parents wanted to handle everything according to their way...so they got the wedding svcs,cards,car,venue,food etc etc...one thing good is that i can focus solely on house reno and stuff and no worries about the wedding at all...but one thing bad is i have not much say in how things are organized...and his parents philosophy is 'bigger is better'...and this counts from guest list to even the accessories i gotta wear
chick: im sure it will be way cheaper in india compared to singapore...if u r planning to go india u can get a whole load of things done cheaper like cards, souvenirs, attire, accessories
...and hopefully there are shops selling mtm lenghas in madras if thats where u r going...
jus wanted to caution those of ul who are taking indian vgs or pgs...pls pls ask to see the photos b4 they print it out or the videos b4 they burn it into a cd/dvd for u...trust me alot of them do the weirdest editing with the cheesiest quotations...and the cheesiest backgrounds...

chick- hey girl u had asked me earlier if i was gonna bun or plait my hair.. me gonna plait it.. but aint gonna be the really traditional kind. I dun think my MIL will be very happy if i bun it. Im just gonna have a very simple forhead thingy, u know the single type. Then the plait wont have rakodi.. she'll juz wind the flowers round the plait n add some deco. N i will not have any excess flowers sticking out. hehe.
Went to sheetal's today, the catalog outfits were gorgeous.. off the rack ones ok la..They will take your measurements and then it will take three weeks to make n ship the outfit from india to sg (for the catalog ones). The lady said that it will be made to fit ur size perfectly. Any alteration needed will be done here. But the price is ex.. For girls average abt 2000+..there were 1000+ ones as well. Men's one got ex one and got cheaper ones as well. Nice too.

Check out Mumbi Se at orchard. Happen to pass the place yesterday. Fusion outfits. Saw a skirt.. looks like the langah skirt for abt $250. Got to get top and shawl separately. Guess it'll be less than $1K. My FH saw a jacket with indian prints. Its abt $300. It was nice but ex.

Sphire: yup u gotta specify to them...cos i got the engagement photos from the VG and PG my MIL engaged and was quite put off by thier editing...the 'dramatic neoprint' kind of stuff...really feel like hiding the photos somewhere...and the video was worse...its like a slow motion movie...sigh...

Sarah - I'm sure your Stylemart outfit will turn out great. I think the best thing you can do now is to not walk into anymore lengha stores. Otherwise you'd be second-guessing your stylemart decision. Hee!

And that's exactly why my fiance and I want to have a say in our wedding plans!! There's also the fact that we are paying for most of it and plus he's not Indian so he's not used to the concept of the parents organising everything. So hey, what's the neoprint thing you guys are talking about?? The only neoprint I know is the sticker thingy that teenagers get from a booth.

I got a sample menu for temple reception from Ananda Bhavan if anyone is interested. They are quoting about $9 a head for 11-12 items (including drinks). But transport and serving staff charges are not included. Transport = $45. Serving Staff = $30 a waiter.

rany: oh now indian PGs have taken a fancy to this new neoprint like editing...so what happens is ur actual picture only covers half the 4r size and the rest of the space is filled by some background, and some cheesy pictures like hearts and lovebirds and then together with cheesy phrases like 'u hold the key to my heart' hope that makes the pucture clearer
thankfully they do this 'professional' editing for only about 10 pics or so since it requires much time and effort

Checked out LOOKS last evening. But spoke to Bubbly over the phone as only her mum was around. Her mum showed mi the accessories, some photos. Din c much as was rushing off. Bubbly quoted mi abt $650 for 2 makeup together with ampoule, 2 hairdo, rental of 1 bridal Lengah and 1 sherwani. She also mentioned that she's using MAC and Estee.. Quite happy with tht. I'm using Estee and allergic to many cosmetics. But not sure if its too early to book now for Sep 07. Wht do u gals think?? Wonder how their PG and VG are... whether like those journalist one or neoprint ones.

You know, this is the first time I'm coming across a place that rents out bridal lenghas and sherwanis. Hee! I know for the wedding, rentals are out of the question. But for banquet, it's ok right? It's not inauspicious right?
If you think you'd like to go with Looks and you're dead set on it, you might as well book them now. But if you want to look around first and look at your options, I reckon there's still time dear. Maybe as a guide, you can ask Bubbly if she's got cfmed bookings for Sept 07. If she does, you know you have to work fast.

Yup looks like LOOKS is the only place that rent lengah and sherwani. Thts y i'm interested. Cos mi dont intend to buy any jus for 1 day use. But not sure if my FH wants to purchase a sherwani. The package is only for banquet. For MUA, LOOKS quoted mi $400 jus for the makeup and hairdo, whereas Menaka told mi its $250 incl trial. Got to contact Shanti as well. These are the only 3 MUAs in my list. Only noticed LOOKS recently. Even their website is not loaded. *TOUCH WOOD* Wht if I book now then gone next yr? But really keen in taking their package. Probably I'll call bubbly again.

hi rany, sorry been tied up..with regards to yr question...erm..we've actually made tentative booking for the date we want in June'07. Timing will be confirmed aft april next yr i guess..

Had a glance of LOOKS' pics. Quite impressive i shd say. Din actually get to c the traditional ones. Bubbly claims that she has more Chinese clients than indians. She is a Prescriptive MUA. At Menaka's, mi always just glance on the pics on her wall. More to traditional. Mi either settling for LOOKS or Shanti for my banquet. Might go for trial makeup at LOOKS either in Sept or Oct to get the feel of Bubbly. Jus hoping that she doesnt ask mi to sign facial package. Also spoke to Shanti actually. Hooo... used the ampoule for photo shoot cos my mua strongly recommended that...its basically to preserve ur makeup for a long period of time esp since they did the makeup at about 3pm and it had to last till 10pm when the outdoor shoot is over...but i think for a wedding which is indoors and for a shorter period of time there is no real need for that...jus my thoughts

Sphire- I signed the package willingly..haha.. coz i went to see her personally and met her mom who does the facial. So i decided to sign up for the package. There was absolutely no pressure from her at all to sign any package. The one with the body scrub and all that right, i felt its very worth it.. all under one place and at a reasonable price. About the ampoule, she juz told me that she feels it makes a difference from her experience. Make up usually doesnt last long on me..so i decided to go for it. Hmm.. but i didnt go for the false eyelashes though. I took her coz i know that i wont look so 'tradtional' for the temple wedding. She has a whole range of accessories u can look at. Even though I may be going for soemthin more simple. U should go see her personally instead of over the phone. Then it will be easier for u to decide. Both Shanti and Bubbly are along the same standard for me. But Looks has its advantage coz they have other services there as well.

There was absolutely no pressure from her at all to sign any package. The one with the body scrub and all that right, i felt its very worth it.. all under one place and at a reasonable price. Jus got back from Oriental. Finalised package. Battled and got corkage waived and barrel beer. Din know package incl a night deluxe room. Will be moving both bridal suite nights to Mar 08. We din really ask much also as felt package covered almost everything and also coordinator was very accomodating. Coordinator will be sending contract soon over for our viewing. Will be signing after the 19th.
