hi there,

may I know how many mths in advance are we supposed to choose the favours & wedding invitation card? I know we need to go T-dragon to choose the card designs but do we need to let them know the number of confirmed tables by this time? Do we need to inform our coordinator?

As for the favours, I heard from pple some may run out if you don't choose early. Is that true? Who do we choose from? GCW or another shop outside?

M & n, I was lucky I haven't paid for my Deposit when I cancelled. Actually was supposed to pay the next day, but Jeremy (my co-ord) was very nice and understanding.

Fion, I think normally wedding cards will be chosen 2 months before AD, to enable enough time for printing.. If your AD is in Nov/Dec, then i think it would be better to start earlier as the printers will be quite tight (alot of weddings during that period!) As for wedding favors, you should be able to choose a mixture of a few if either one is lacking in qty. Normally people will choose 1 or 2 months ahead.. if u choose too early, you may miss out those newer designs coming in.

Hi All,

For the 1 night suite stay provided, can someone advise if the suite is the same regardless which banquet room we book ? For the suite, is the bedroom separated from the living room by a door, or both are open to each others view easily. What about the deco and size within ?

For all the banquet rooms, do they provided free projector and screen, and how many can each of the rooms accomodate ?

For unconsumed tables, can GCW allow us to consume it another day like some other hotels do ?

For kind advise on above. Thank you.

Hi All BTB,

Just had my AD on 30 Dec 07 at GCW Riverfront Ballroom. Wonderful experience, Eddie and Weiliang the managers are very prompt and efficient. The food was wonderful. Thanks to Melissa's pics and reviews as i did not went for the food tasting too..

=)

Hi Kodomo Concert, I had a short march in too.. one trick to counter that is to walk slooowwly.. hehehe.. but if u got only 15 tables in riverfront.. u can actually ask ur manager to do a longer march in.. as i had 19 tables.. so there is some space limitations.

Hi AngelMara, not sure that whether the suite depends on the banquet room we book.. think u can check with the manager. The suite we got was rather small for riverfront ballroom but it was not tt bad... The bed room is separated from the living room by a door. I do have some pics of suite.. do give me ur email addy so i can mail to u...

I think for the free projector and rooms and unconsume tables.. u got to take a look at the new packages and negotiate with the managers.. though they are rather strict on perks.. do look out for the wedding shows as the perks are much much better if u book during the shows...

Hi Vel,

Thanks for the info. I happen to just pop by GCW late this afternoon to peep at the Waterfron and Riverfron ballrooms. Managed to find Jeremy free to attend to us and he brought us to the suite - ya rather small. However, the suite was not decorated. Did you have it decorated on your AD ? Would appreciate if you can mail your pics to me at [email protected], if you have it decorated up. Thanks.

He confirmed smaller ballrooms like Galleria, Riverfront and Waterfront will be allocated the smaller suite and the bigger ballrooms allocated the bigger suite.

Can I book only 15 tables at Riverfront ballroom so that we can have a longer march-in or that is only allowable when you sign up at a wedding show ? Jeremy told me the min is 17 tables for Riverfront, although for today's evening wedding banquet there, the layout shows only 16 tables(inclusive VIP tables). Btw, anyone has any idea if GCW having a wedding show coming up soon ?

For unconsumed tables, he will allow us to pack back but not consume it another day.

By the way, is Eddie and Weiliang also co-ordinators like Jeremy, and any idea who is better and accomodating ?

Helo Angelmara,

I just had my wedding lunch on 6th at Riverfront Ballroom, I had 18 tables, my coordinator is also Jeremy, BM is Weiliang. We actually top up to get a bigger wedding suite. It will be decorated with red wedding bedsheet and decorative. Yes, no usage of tables that are not consumed but able to pack home by the couple or relatives. Try to go for their wedding shows, more perks than normal.

1) waiver of corkage (very impt to me) OR free 1-2 bottles of wine per table
>> Try to get both. I signed last yr july (grand ballrm-45 tables) and got free flow of beer, waiver corkage and 1 bottle of wine per table.

2) LCD projector (1 or 2?)
>> No need to neg.. they usually give 2.. make sure stated in contract

3) anniversary stay/ food voucher?
>> Got 2 nights bridal stay.. exchange my "bus transport" for lunch and breakfast buffet during our 2 nights stay. At least we don't have to pay anything more after the wedding.

4) rose petals/ dry ice/ other effects for march in? other decor?
>> Dry ice can be arranged free, Rose petals is usually by florist which the hotel will have not much say. You can neg with florist when time comes or prep urself.. not expensive one..

5) 1 or 2 night stay at bridal suite? bridal suite nice?
>>2 nights.. so so.. Westin Stamford nicest.. haha..

6) wedding favours, what can we choose from?
>> cant tell.. coz they might change their favours now and then.. just choose earlier before ur wedding to get the favours u like..

7) wedding invitation cards, do they include printing? how many cards they provide?
>> they provide cards, but printing, they recomment T-Dragon.. whicih u have to bear the printing cost

8) VIP parking for bridal cars?
>>Provided for.. no need to neg

9) complimentary parking for up to how many % of guests?
>>I THINK can neg for more when the time comes.. If you expect more of ur guests coming in cars..

10) pack dinner or food voucher for the couple after the dinner?
>> not sure.. my wedding is next yr jan..

11) free barrel of beer? 20L or 30L?
>> neg for free flow

12) helper room FOC or must pay?
>> free 1 night for helper.. cant remember if i successfully neg for 2 rooms..

13) food tasting FOC or must pay? for up to how many persons?
>> neg for 10 pax FOC food tasting

thanks so much shice! really appreciate your advice...

met up with Elizabeth from GCW... she's really honest, not aggressive-pushy at all, and seems quite experienced... so think wld be quite comfortable to proceed with her... anyway she mentioned that there is a Group Wedding Fair for all the hotels under their Copthorne Group (total got 5, including M Hotel also, Copthorne King and Orchid... can't remember the last one) sometime in March... that one will open bookings till April 2009 only... anything after that is additional $50 per table and WITHOUT any perks... which is like totally no point... they will have another Grand Copthorne Waterfront only fair in like May or June where they will open up the rest of 2009 with perks... so mine is late 2009 will wait till that fair to book...

btw, my original intended date was like 20 Sep 2009 (so it's 20092009), but they had this "limelight" date price of $1399 per table for that date and min 35 tables... like @#%$^#$&^%$#&$%^$#%...

Hi all, I am considering GCW's Riverfront Ballroom and Grand Hyatt's Camelia Room for 20 tables. Which one would you choose? Mind sharing some experiences if you had your dinner in one of these places? Thanks heaps!

hi Arizona, you mentioned Sheena was flexible. Wondering if she is flexible due to the number of tables you are taking. Hence, can have your kind advise how many tables you are having and what aspect she was flexible on? Thanks.

Hi Jojo, how much did you top up for the larger wedding suite and do you have any pics of it to share ? Can send to [email protected]. Thanks.

Am still undecided between the Waterfront or Riverfront ballroom. Can someone advise me if I select
a) the Waterfront ballroom, will they allow me to use the grandpiano at the recep area ? - can get my friend who loves to play & perform on the keyboard lah...
b) the Riverfront ballroom, will they allow me to pay for the min of 17 tables, but have 15 tables so that I can have a longer march-in, and consume the balance 2 tables on another day ?

Angelmara,

My coordinator told us that we can use the grand piano for free at the lounge (provided there is no other dinner at the other ballroom that day)
They do not allow consumption of balance tables for other days but only let you or your family to tabao back the food. So you will still be charge for it. What i did was to tell them the confirmed tables i need and have 1 spare table incase of extra guests turn up. The spare table
will not be charged to us if it's not utilised.
I will try to post the pic of the wedding suite. We top up ard 200 for the suite as my contract only provide us with standard room.

Jojo,

You mean that if I book Riverfront and on the same day Waterfront has no function on, they will allow me to use the grand piano and bigger lounge outside Waterfront ?

By "standard room", do you mean the stand "bridal" room which already has the living room separated by sliding door from the tiny bedroom ? Can PM me so that I can reply and show you some pics of the small bridal room (I got from someone else) I am talking about. Thanks.

Anyone has any idea if dry ice together with bubble effect will be good? And can GCW provide bubbles besides dry ice, or I have to bring my own ?

Wonder if anyone can show me the pics for the favours provided ?

Besides soft drinks & mixers for the pre-event cocktail, are they able to provide titbits or finger food (Holiday Inn Park View provides it free) ?

If I have 20/22 tables for the Waterfront ballroom, any idea if I can somehow arrange for a longer march-in (either straight or L-shaped) ?

Hi, wonder if it is a normal practise to cater dinner seats for the PG & VG we engage or we can just "ta bao" something for them before the banquet begins or what ?

Maybe they should eat before the banquet starts though, as I thought they may have to take photos or videos starting from make-up & hair-do session even before the banquet begins all the way till the end ? Appreciate some kind advise on this. Thanks.

Angelmara > actually i have the same concern as you also. then i ask my PG politely whether need to provide food for him. He says no need. He says he is there to work, so during the time he will concentrate taking pics of the couple and also their guests. i guess they are pretty use to the irregular hours

Hi Jojo, thanks for advising the top up cost for the larger wedding suite. Will you be posting or emaling me its pics soon.

Thanks RoCCo. At least now I have just to sort out within myself whether to have a seat just for my own PG friend as he is like half VG and half personal friend invited.

Hi, can anyone share with me pics of the favours provided and if we can negotiate to have finger food before banquet, during the cocktail ? Any idea if we can arrange 20/22 tables for the Waterfront ballroomso that we can have a longer march-in (either straight or L-shaped) ?

Hi all,

Just to share a recent food tasting experience at GCW. I'm desperately in need of advice. My AD is coming in less than 2 months so the food tasting was arranged in early January. We were charged about $400++ for the food tasting. The whole experience, food and service were unfortunately, big disappointment.
My coordinator came by only at the start of the food tasting and went missing (gone home) despite her promising my husband that she will be back to check on us after attending to another group. The chef was the only one who came to discuss the menu and dishes. Out of the 8 courses of dishes, only 3, were satisfactory. Keeping in mind, the standards usually drop further on AD due to mass production, we were really worried. Out of the 8 dishes, we have decided to change 5. Out of the 8 dishes, there were 2 dishes whereby all at the table tasted less than 2 spoonfuls and left the rest untouched. With all these in mind, we really like to have a 2nd food tasting to gain some confidence back. Everyone in the room expect the next food tasting to be FOC but unfortunately our coordinator insisted on charging us the whole $400++ for the 2nd food tasting. We feel that GCW or the coordinator only have $ in mind more than customer satisfaction. With all these, we have decided to just pay the 1st food tasting and do without the second.
Does anyone has comments or tried the following dishes from GCW? (Our amended menu)
1) Lobster soup (chef's experimental dish requested by my husband)
2) Herbal steam pawns
3) Steam (qin zhen) garoupa
4) E-Fu noodles
5) Yam Paste with ginkgo

Followings are our comments on various dishes for our 1st food tasting
1) Prawn Cocktail Combination Platter - Presentation: satisfactory (4 star hotel standard) Taste: Satisfactory
2) Braised Harsma with four treasures - Presentation: satisfactory Taste: heavy fishy scallop smell and taste, otherwise taste is alright. Dish change to Lobster soup
3) Roasted Crispy Chicken flavored with fermented beancurd sauce - Presentation : satisfactory Taste: Satisfactory. Fermented beancurd sauce is unnecessary
4) Baked prawn wrapped in bacon & stir fried pawn - Presentation: unsatisfactory, totally rojak style. Looked all black and brown. Taste : prawn with bacon was well-received but not the stir-fried prawn, too salty. Dish Change to herbal steamed prawn
5) Braised sea cucumber & mushrooms with garden vege. - Presentation: satisfactory Taste: good. This is best dish of all the 8 tasted.
6) Steamed Fresh Garoupa with Chinese preserved cabbage - Presentation: unsatisfactory, messy. Taste: overcooked. so overcooked and hard, we don't feel any "freshness" Dish changed to simple steam garoupa with soya sauce.
7) Stewed "udon" with dried shrimps, preserved vege and yellow chives. - Presentation: disastrous rojak brown noodles. Taste: disastrous. Whole dish is almost untouched after 1st bite. Does not taste like udon nor noodles. taste like fish ball in strips fried with rojak of veges. The only one enjoying this was a huge housefly(have photo to show)
Change this dish to normal E-Fu noodles.
8) Chilled mango pudding served with raspberry sauce. - Presentation: barely satisfactory. taste: Bad. no mango in it and far too hard and dry to be pudding. taste and smell like colour preservative and lot of sugar. Mostly untouched after 1st taste. Change to traditional yam paste.

Our families who have gone with us for the food tasting were all shock to know that we have to pay about $400++ for such quality of food when all food tastings our siblings had been to with other 5 stars hotels were free even after 2nd round of food tasting.

My husband and I are now worried about the quality of service render on AD. What if they have similar standard of foods served and similar "not-my-problem-just-pay-what is-already-served" attitude from staff? Is there any way we can protect ourselves from this? Anyone has a coordinator more responsible and committed?

cavok, I had the same experience for my food tasting as well about 2 years ago.. What I finally had for my AD dinner was almost 80% different from our food tasting. We took the risk and decided not to do another second round of food tasting, and selected our menu based on feedback from the forum.

Anyway, my views are almost 2 years old by now, but most of the guests liked the steamed prawns. For fish I had some miso sauce fish dish.. which was quite ok. for the carbo dish, I actually took the glutinous rice wrapped with bean curd skin. Everybody said that was nice and it was a good departure from the normal ee-fu noodles. BTW, during my food tasting, the ee.fu noodles was quite horrible.

the yam paste is supposed to be quite good at GCW

Hi Cavok, i have tentatively signed up with GCW, but yet to pay my deposit.

Hearing from your food tasting experience, i'm really concerned. Are you able to let me know the name of co-ordinator & if possibly the chef(PM me if inconvenient to let me know through this forum). Hopefully it is not my lady co-ordinator. Thanks.

Hi Jo Jo,

Do you mind sharing some pictures of the riverfront ballroom? Does the ballroom has glass panels around which can see through the outside view? We are intending to do wedding lunch as well and target max 20 tables. You can email me at [email protected]

Many thanks!

Hi Jojo,

Can you share your pics on the larger suite with me. Pls send to [email protected] and [email protected]. Thanks.

For the larger suite, is it river facing or building facing ? And the top up is it $200 nett or $200++ ? I'm quoted higher rate by another co-orindatoralthough I am taking 20 tables whereas yours is 18, and so may nego further.

Hi Gals,

I'm new here. Just to share with you all, I understand that GCW will be having a bridal show sometime in early Mar '08. If you are not particular in reserving auspicious dates early and can wait to sign up later, you may get better perks then I believe. And if you pay by UOB credit card, you get additional perk.

Hi Shice,

do GCW provide bus transport and from where? at what intervals? i am considering GCW and transport is one thing that hinder my decision as it is quite inconvenient for pple who dun drive but my htb and i really love the grand ballroom there.

shice1

New Member
It's included in the pkg (as of July 07 - that time i signed).

15 mins interval for 1 hour. Meaning only 5 times to and fro from Outram MRT.

We took out the bus transport and exchange for free lunch dining for the second day. Coz it's quite weird to tell guest to take the bus.. Some more, mine is 450 guests min.. if half take transport (i.e. 225), the bus is definitely not enough to cater for all. I rather get my guests to take cab. =)

Some more it's near zouk.. after dinner ard 11 plus.. there's alot of cabs at the area.. easy for them to go home too..

no prob.. =) good luck on ur neg! try to neg such a way that you don't have to pay additional cost during your stay at GWC (such as additional wine, beer, next day lunch or dinner, etc).
