Fresh Grad's pay

Pinky: it depends on the industry... but in general, I suppose they shld get about S$1,600 -S$1,800 in the least for a start...

what do you expect for doing admin work? Degree is not some super pass for high pay.

Given you are the employer, would you pay more than that for degree to do admin work?

Anyway, one that is looking at the starting pay is pretty short sighted. I started my pay as programmer at 2.3k while my peers started with a general degree at 1.6k. But, within 1st few yrs, most climbs to wages surpassing me completely. I only woke up after 5 yrs employed by my previous company.

So how much do you think this inexperience fresh grad should be pay then?

Salary Scale varies from Industry too

Banking Industry (CSO) - Min $1800 (If able to speak other language = higher salary)

IT Helpdesk - Min $2500

Secretary - Min $2200

S$2400 to $2600? asking on behalf of my fren. I have been working for some time already.. hee..

MiLo On e RoCkS (miloice): I thought programmer's pay higher?

fresh grad doing admin job for 2.4k to 2.6K?...dreaming!!....but then wat kinda admin job u refering?...like those HR work?..if so i think ard 2K most bah

yea.. HR... secreatary.. etc.. I heard my fren said MNC secretary highly paid.. around 2.8 to 3K.. I was shocked to hear that..

for a fresh grad to earn tat kinda pay in HR or admin is not possible lar...unless u r corp secretary or to VP or President..but then they wont pick fresh grad

Here are some data from Jobstreet:

Admin assistant: http://myjobstreet.jobstreet.com/career-enhancer/basic-salary-report.php?param=Administrative%20Assistant|000|sg||sg (copy and paste entire url)

Administration: http://myjobstreet.jobstreet.com/career-enhancer/basic-salary-report.php

Secretary: http://myjobstreet.jobstreet.com/career-enhancer/basic-salary-report.php

PA: http://myjobstreet.jobstreet.com/career-enhancer/basic-salary-report.php

Given that your friend is a fresh grad and (I assume) without experience, her average pay would be below $2k ba. Have to be realistic also.

why dun u ask her to take up something more challenging and offers a Higher potential for fiancial progression.

why should she lower her expectation?

is the job of admin work a must-have job?

if the questions are wrong, the answers will be wrong... life will not turn out as expected.

What is the expectation and prospects of the admin role? Does it give the progression and exposure she needs?

Or does she want a 8-6 job daily without any progression?

What does she want?

unless u have special skill or qualification, u wont get high one..just like wat littlewoman had, pathetic pay..

accoutancy is one of the hardest to study...n audit start pay 2K+ nia...

littlewoman (lovingyou) : everyone starts off with low pay .. that time i was a diploma holder drawing 1.4K per mth.. Sibei: I thought ACCA holder pay very high? not easy to pass. My fren has been doing it for two years, haven even pass one module.

i think with the current line of Q&A going.. neither u nor your fren can go very far as far as high pay is concerned.

dun mean to be rude, but is your line of questioning for real? it sounds like my mother trying to find out if i have a gfren when i was 21.

do u think this level of interllect deserves any high pay? the degree hides the lower quality sometimes..

pinky, ACCA or accountancy degree is the same lar...all are degree status..no say which one draw higher pay..

yr fren do 2 yrs n cant even pass one?..he or she must be dreaming all this while...lol

Pinky: I was a degree holder when I was drawing such a pathetic pay... No difference of Uni, unless ur friend has a certain level of experience too...

Thomas: I agree with you.. Luckily my current pay consider ok, average.. last time really peanuts. littlewoman: no worries, that was in the past. now you make it.. (",)Sibei: I really don know.. she started off the same time as me, i got mine but she has nothing.. no joke. I ask her to study bachelor of accouting or something similar, not necessary must be ACCA, she don want.

it is true, degree does not mean anything.

but the only way people to see you while you work and they don't know you at all, and want to hire you as well, is by the Degree you got. Even nowadays with a degree you got only average pay work as sale get a commision. what if you don't have ? better have than not, and the degree is not only about your pay, but about the enrichment of your self too.

unless the employer really know who you are.

if you don't like the system, so get out and invent your own.

littlewoman (lovingyou): My fren is 23 years old.. I m much older than her. Aiya.. nevermind.. let her decide.. will tell her to start off somewhere first. She has rich parents to support her.. No hurry in finding a job.

Pinky u also took ACCA?....well i think must understand how can she get nothing..either she not working hard enuff or she's not suitable to study tat course..

Hi,

My staff's daughter is a new grad (business admin), working in foreign bank, starting pay $2k plus. Work for 1 yr, jump to another foreign bank $3k plus.

She is not that smart, uni results so-so, didn't really make money for the bank but she's pretty, hardworking, humble and has great PR skills.

She can follow through Bosses' instructions well. Bosses can have a peace of mind. Basically, a "yes" lady, no input is required from her.

SIBEI: No not acca.. Don really like accounting. Albee: thanks for your inputs. if not pretty how? just kidding. Littlewoman: will ask her to try bank then.

starting pay of bank management trainees (fresh grad) few yrs back is already ~2.7k. now should be same or higher.

i also know many recent engineering grads started above 3k, but of course that depends on which company you're in.

Rather than spending months and months looking for the dream job when you don't even know what is the definition of your dream job.

It would be easier to get ANY job and stay there for a year, learn what you need and later find a higher pay job in other companies with the experience you have. Each hop usually gives you about 15-30% increase for a degree holder. After a few years you will end up with what you wanted. And of course it would be good if you start off with the industry you want to be in. Eg, accounts assistant if you want to be an accounts manager. Sales coordinator if you want to be a sales manager, etc. Thats the trend i think.

i'm got $1.5k as admin 6yrs..

my nus colleague got $2k when he just joined as tech few mths ago..but rose to $2.5k already..

my another friend in marketing taking $2.6k..she just joined..

me here is depends on experience..nt qualifications..

so depends ah..

a degree cert is really nothing, unless you want to specialised in something eg. lawyer, doctor. ah..then the certs are useful.
nowadays, anyone u grab on the street can tell you they are degree holders. big deal. every half yearly, there are new batches of fresh grads.

most impt is how to be street smart, not book smart

bank jobs are not all rosy too. have a few frens in different banks, all wanting to jump ship.

just to let those who are keen on banking industry and have this misconception that banking jobs pay well.

funny... 1 moment pple blame banks for cheating and causing a major world recession...

next moment pple can't wait to join banks to be put on the same payroll that squeezes the money out of the pple...

of coz... if u can't beat them, join them.
when the banks screws up, the whole screws up with them.
when they earn $$, they earn it alone.....
(^=^)

tat's the thing i wonder abt sometimes... especially the post-lehman stage when u have all the pple wanting their money back etc... then when i meet pple n older folks, they're hoping their children get a good job in the banks, and the children themselves wanna join the banks...

it's just one of those things that struck me as being interesting, and subsequently there were some articles that says that humans have short memory... Wah, u can imagine how that really put things in perspective.

the ceos with the million-dollar salaries were being brought down... then the new batch of graduates who dream of the million-dollar salaries... quite the irony...
