DIY Wedding cards

Anyone into DIY-ing their own invites? I am making mine and this is how it looks. But then of course I can't be making for all of my guests. Just my friends and colleagues only. Relatives wise I will use the cards provided by the hotel

*Note: I will use a nicer ribbon for the real thing. This blue piece is a left over from other projects. Btw, I haven't got the inserts ready yet. But basically it will be place in the middle panel.

Hi girls..

I need help urgently ..i need only 30 - 35 pcs of wedding cards and i have been calling around and most of them quote quite high. And one of the printer tell me.. dont waste money on these. i can actually use laser printer to print but then i dont know hw abt doing that. What i intend to do is buy the wedding card and then print the inserts. Can some advise me.. Thanks in advance. MY wedding is on June.. i dont have much times left now.

Hi snoozy, i think it'll depends on what kind of wedding cards you want. If you're going to design it yourself and then getting printers to print, it might be pretty expensive (as in at least $2 per piece). 30-35 pieces is not a lot, so it's definitely possible to DIY it. Some suggestions:

1) Buy ready-made cards and then print the inserts yourself using your laser printer. I'm doing this for one of my wedding banquets. However, because I'm having an oriental theme, it is easy to get the kind of cards I want (i.e. those traditional red and gold cards). I'm using metallic gold vellum as inserts, so even tho i'm using laser printer, black print on gold vellum actually looks classier (IMHO) than on cheap insert paper. Check out T-dragon or Focal-ad website. I bought my cards from T-dragon and it costs me $0.90 per set (card + envelope).

2) If you cant find a ready-made card that you like, the other option is to DIY the card, using cardstock in the colour theme of your wedding. You can enhance the card by using techniques such as stamping, embossing, border/corner punches or adding ribbons or other embellishments. This is how I DIYed my save-the-date cards to cut costs

I hope this helps!

Hi Misty..

Actually i was thinking jus like wat you did.. bought cards from Focal-ad and then print the insert myself. BUt then i dont have a laser printer and i dont know hw to go abt doing it. So now the problem is where can i find a shop that can print that for me. CAn you advise me. thanx

Snoozy, I'd really love to help you, but I'm not actually living in S'pore at the moment, so I worry it might be difficult to get the inserts to you in time. But I'll be more than happy to help you with doing the lay-out of the insert. As for printers, maybe you can check out bras basah complex... there're lots of printing companies there, just find out how much they will charge for digital B&W laser printing. Also, find out the kind of paper they provide. You may have to buy the paper yourself if they dont have anything you like. Most likely they'll print to A4 size and then you can cut the insert to the size of your card. Otherwise, do you hv any friends with laser printer?

This might work out better for you. Btw, what's your budget and when do you need the cards by?

Hi Misty..

It okay.. reali thanx for all the info.. *hug*

So you mean if they print the insert for you.. u still have to cut it out? I didnt know that.. i thot they will print the actually size for you .. erm.. i was looking at those paper at popular and some of them is nice.. but then i dont know hw to match.. i was veri poor in art and matching colour.. i intend to get those normal red color invitation card.. so can u advise me.. what type of paper shld i go with? So once we print out.. we use string to tight the insert to the card izzit? My budget will be around $70 for all.. cos i dont wan to spend too much on my card. Hope you know wat i mean..Maybe i will ask around see who got laser printer. I need the card beginning of June.. cos my wedding is on 18th June

Hey snoozy,

No worries! We're all here to help one another mah

Actually, the printers may be able to print the insert to size for you, but I'm sure the less they have to do, the cheaper it will be :P... why not ask them?

Which card from focal-ad did you get? It is on their website? If it's the traditional red kind of cards, usually inserts are pink or cream I think. I found a lovely metallic gold translucent paper in a local shop here which I'm using. I think it will go nicely with a red card if you can find something similar, especially if you're using laser printer and the words are in black. Otherwise, what about those translucent paper with a bit of 'marbled' effect? I'm sure popular have those, rite?

You can either use string/ribbon to tie the insert to the card or just glue it on. But if you're going to use translucent paper, then better use a string cos the glue will show thru.

Hi Misty..

i was looking at those card on focal-ad website..
http://focal-ad.com/traditional_FS.htm
that is the onli one i can find online so far.. maybe i will go bras basah and take a look.. but i m interested on this kind of traditional card. But then today i went to popular to check out those paper.. ermm.. none of them seen nice at all

(
i think i reali need to go there this friday.. not enough time alr..

snoozy, have you checked out T-dragon website?

i think it's www.tdragoncards.com ... they have some traditional ones. But after you order, I think it takes a couple of days for them to bring it in from their warehouse to the showroom.

oh.. if you want to see the type of vellum paper i mean, leave your email address, I can send a photo of a sample for you

snoozy, i'll send it to you later, kay... the file's in another computer. Did you hv any luck finding the card you like from the website?

misty.. i think i still prefer the focal-ad one.. they got more design and nicer.. but then i think better to go bras basah to take a look before decide and at the same time can look ard who can help me print the insert..

It okay.. u can send to me later.. thx

snoozy, I've sent to you le. But cos I havent printed out my inserts (waiting for my ILs to check for errors... hehehe), I've sent you something else I've made with the same paper. Hope it's ok!

Hi Misty..

I received ur email alr.. saw the paper that you describe to me.. i know how it look like now.. i seen that kind of paper in popular before.. so now i need to do is tomorrow go bras basah to look for cards, if i cant find any i will order from focal-ad and then i can start to prepare for inserts. Btw.. where shld i get those wedding for the inserts? can i copy from my bro wedding cards?

Hi Misty..

btw.. can i check with you.. can we use normal printer to print the insert? cos i got my own printer..

Hi Snoozy,

Did you go to bras basah then? I guess if all circumstances are the same, then u can use ur bro's card as a template, and just change the names and venue as necessary. As for using your printer, I think it's possible. Is it an inkjet? Just make sure the paper you buy is compatible with ur printer. However, if i'm not wrong, if you print with ink jet, then the ink is not water-proof, so you hv to bear that in ink. In case someone accidently spill water over it or something, it might ruin the card.

Hi Misty..

Today i went to bras basah.. very disappointed.. searching from level 1 to 4.. cant reali find any printing company.. saw techman.. went in.. dont reali like the cards cos i m looking for traditional.. after searching for sometimes.. i came to a shop.. went in and saw some of the cards i like.. since the boss was toking to a customer.. so i wait.. then after that i ask her ..do you help ppls to print around 35 pcs .. and wat she show me is some invitations.. in the form of paper.. i can print that myself too.. =.=" and then i told her.. how abt i buy cards from you and she point to me.. that side got.. u can take a look, then i decide on one design.. i ask her hw much you charge and she said $1.80 per card.. that time i dont have a calculator so i ask her.. how much for 35 pcs.. she cant be bother to ans me or look at me.. she jus continue with her thing.. wat the.... wat kind of attitude is that.. jus becos i print onli 35 pcs izzit.. so i jus said nvm.. then i walk out.. i think now i will decide to buy from focal-ad and then print the insert myself..

hey snoozy,

i'm so sorry to hear about that. That's really rude of the boss! $#)@^$&&($....

. Anyway, sounds like you'll be much better off doing the inserts yourself. No need to have to bear with this kind of attitude in the midst of all the preparations for the wedding. Let me know what i can do to help

hey esther, i think save the date cards are sent few months in advanced, before sending the invitation. Thank you cards are usually sent after the wedding. For the actual invites, really depends on what else you want to include. Some examples are directions, rvsp details, reply card + envelopes.

Hi Misty..

My wedding alr over and i did DIY own wedding card with the help of my fren..she help me to design and i print it with my own printer.. and i love the design very much..

i think its very nice to DIY ur own cards ain't it..
of cos its not possible to DIY alot of them if u have alot of guests...

I only made DIY cards for my friends and classmates. Relative and colleagues I gave them the hotel cards. So it really reduces the workload

Hey girls,

I know this post is outdated but I am currently into DIY invitations so I am searching for inspo everywhere! I am creating some online invitations as well, since most of my friends are living abroad. I've came across a funny article and a wedding template giveaway at the end of it. Personally, I liked it a lot (and it's free :) ) so just wanted to let you know. I am still figuring out how to match my paper invitations with the ones I've made online so please keep posting your lovely work!

Thanks :)

Hi! I'm also in the midst of trying to DIY my own invitation card. And while researching I found this article with links to various templates. Some of them do look pretty decent. :)

Wow! They look awesome. Have you picked one already?

I've chosen this template for online invitation and my sister is flying in in two days so we can start with our DIY project for actual invitations

Wow! That's nice. It's a good way as compared to the usual RSVP. But I Guess the older generations wouldn't fancy this. I haven't chosen my template though. Haven't got the time to discuss with my other half. And to think my wedding is happening in another three months.
