Off-white is like ivory color... sometimes cream color also have.

Champagne is definitely not white, wat.

Pink... erm, okay lah. If pale pink can be quite pretty. But some Chinese believe pink is reserved for a guy's 2nd wife (as in after divorcing the first wife lah) and should be avoided at all costs.

Or u can explain to them it's traditional to wear white in church. Which is true.

Hi Belinda,

I will be having mine at SFX in August but yet to choose the choir, etc. lol... I've the contact for the church florist. If u want it, PM me. I am also not a parishoner from there. If u look at the church website, you can get the contact details of the various choir groups and the type of hymns they sing. http://members.tripod.com/sfx_church/ Click on "Church Groups" and look for "Liturgical Music Ministry"

Hi Belinda

Just to share, I didnt have a choir for my wedding, but instead had a commentator & organist, who were my friends. I chose my own hymns & both my friends also recommended some based on their own experience of their wedding.

Hope it helps...cheers.

hi belinda (bmk). I'm from SFX, so I may be able to help. The church florist is pretty good. As far as I know, two people do it as a team. The guy in the team is a friend of mine, who works as a creative whatchmacallit at a landscape firm. (sorry, have no idea what his job title is!)

He does all the church decorations at Christmas time including the creche (ie the the bit at the side where you see the Holy Family and Baby Jesus).

It costs about $350 for the
1) altar arrangements
2) lectern arrangements
3) bride and groom's chair arrangements

and another $10 per small posy for each pew decorated. On average, most couples opt for two columns of 14 pews each from the altar, and alternate the posies such that you pay about $140 more.

Any further details, you'll prob need to speak to them yourself. Aunty Betty the parish secretary can give you their contact.

With regard to church choir, it depends on how much you want to pay and how stringent you are about your music.

Aunty Mabel is an organist who doesn't ask for a price, and she's really easygoing, but you may want to hear her playing first. You may not appreciate her style. She often can help you find a cantor to lead and sing in the microphone, also at no charge. Any hongbao is appreciated though. No choir at her disposal though. She's a piano teacher by trade.

The other choir, if you have a hefty budget, is Denis Leong's choir. They're a youth choir and they sing for saturday evening mass. Their asking price is pretty high though.

John Goh, one of the basses in the choir also has a group that does gregorian chants for a VERY DIFFERENT music style. PM me if you're interested.

otherwise, can't really help you. hope all this is useful!

Hi Siok Hoong,

Wanted to PM you but your PM function is not activated. The info u provided is very useful. Thanks for sharing. When does Aunty Mabel play if we would like to check out the type of songs she play first? My hubby is very interested in anything traditional so he got excited when he saw that John Goh does gregorian chant. Which choir does he belong to and how do we work it out if we would like to have 1 or 2 gregorian chants during the wedding mass but NOT thru' out the whole mass e.g. Aunty Mable and the cantor do the majority while John comes in and do the gregorian chant part or would John's group be able to handle both gregorian chants and the usual hymns? How abt his charges? Sorry for the many questions. Would greatly appreciate if you could enlighten us or direct us to the right contacts. Thanks

U may PM me, if u want.

Hi Siok Hoong and elfrushi...thanks very much for your tips...very helpful
I am quite particular about the music so I think I should go for mass at SFX to check out the choirs and decide. I heard that Denis Leong's choir charges S$1000 to sing for wedding mass.

Hi all, I'll be attending the EE in June too. Want to book St. Iggy's for dec but haven't had the time to go down and talk to the priests. Initially, I was worried that my fh didn't want a church wedding but he agreed rather willingly. So we both agreed that it will be a service, not a mass because most of his family are non-church goers and could potentially feel uncomfortable. We were thinking of having a bigger reception after the service and not having a chinese dinner. Hopefully his parents can accept it.

Hi Nexusangel

Is yours in the afternoon?

Are they able to let you have an area further down the grotto for your reception?

it may mean that you have to get some tentage up if they are agreeable.

It's around 11am, I'll try asking...
thanks for your input elfrushi!

Any other ideas I can use?
I really want Risen Christ as my parents were married here and I was baptised here as well...

mine was at 10am & we had the hall till 12pm.

Think the catechism classes start at 1 or 2pm, so your timing may be a bit tight.

Otherwise, you may consider to go without the reception (which some of my friends had done so) if you do have already have a wedding dinner.

I thinking of pushing my wedding earlier as well.
The secretariat replied to me saying i can't use the grotto area...
Hmm

For your wedding was it rushed?
As she told me i had to have mine at 9 so that I can finish using the hall by 12:30pm.
but 9 is too early for me, but 10am is still acceptable...

thanks so much for your advise!

Hi gals, I'm a Catholic bride getting married in Oct this yr. I'll be holding my wedding mass at OLPS early early in the morning at 9am, followed by dinner at night. Does anyone have a sample of AD programme/itinerary similar to mine?? Can share?? I'm worried about timings. Thks

Hi Valerie,

I had my wedding mass at 10am.

Basically, it ran like this:
Gatecrash (Bride's house)
Tea Ceremony (Bride's side)
Church
Church Reception
Tea Ceremony (Groom's side)
Go hotel to rest, then do makeup
Dinner

I know it's the usual thing to have tea ceremony at the groom's side first. But since all our parents didn't mind, and the church is 5min drive from my place, it was more logical to have tea ceremony at my place first.

ladies, good news! My hubby and In law accept this dress with a BIG PINK ribbon and a lot of pink lace(not the dress I really wanted) but it has a fair bit of white, so I guess I should be happy with it and not complain anymore - compare to they want me to wear full pink. hehe

Girls, anyone having church wedding at St Peter and Pauls?

Hi nexusangel

it's up to you on how much time you wld like to allocate to the reception. I ordered light snacks & finger food so that the guests will not take too long to eat them (^_^) as compared to lunch. 1 hour was more than enough for me, plus half the guests are meant to be served tea as well (^_^)

Mass from 10am to 10.45am
Short Phototaking after Mass to 11am
Reception starts at 11am
From 11.15am Tea ceremony while other guests continue munching
All completed by 12.30pm.

It helped as well to have a team of helpers(4) who did the tear-down very quickly to hand the hall back to the church.

ladies...when I went to st iggy's, David working at the office told us that the right way to do it is to have tea ceremony AFTER wedding service because you need to be officially man and wife then serve tea to both side's parents. So not sure if we're doing it right, but we consulted my fh's parents and they think we should do tea ceremony first. So this means that I need to go to his place for tea ceremony first, then come back to my place for tea ceremony, and then head to the church for service and reception. I'm looking at the month of sep, so the timings are mostly all in the morning about 10-11am. Not sure if we have time...

If anyone has a sample program for wedding service, can you please email me? I would really like to see how the sequence is so I can plan the choir, songs, etc. Thanks a whole lot!

Hi Elfrushi

Think I'll follow yr program coz its similar to have I have in mind! Thks! Did you do your tea ceremony in church? I'm planning to do so but I wonder how that will affect the photos?? Think the backdrop will be the church walls.

Hi Suwaiwai

Yes, I had my tea ceremony in church as well. We used a corner of hall just beside the stage. It was so much relaxing for us as we do not have to rush to 2 more places after the Mass.

Hi sisters, I'm new to the procedures of a Catholic church solemnization. Currently, I'm attending RCIA at Christ the King Church. I'm thinking of holding our church wedding at SFX. How do I go about booking the church? Who can I approach and what are the charges I am expected to come up if I engage the church programs? Thks for the advice.

I finally confirmed my mass

Hi Steady,
You can contact the parish secretary.. contacts should be on their website.

With regards to the costs, different churches charge differently so better to check with the secretary. I had to pay $200 to rent the OLPS church hall,$50 deposit for use of canteen and have to give contribution too. Contribution amt is up to you. Will also have to pay the choir and altar boys separately. I think my church is quite x la..

Others>> Btw who is Philip Lye??

Blush: he told me it is $120 which i find very reasonable
happy.gif

elfrushi: we won't be having the bride pick up, so he will meet me at the church, kind of how the westerners do it. As my dad is very against the bridesmaid tricks thing... heh.
The church is pretty near my home, so prob won't have to get up too early

msclaire..
you gonna engage philip too?
i think he one man show enough liao... ;)

else if you have both choir and him...
unless they sing different hymns....else you MAY have to arrange for both philip and the choir to have a rehearsal...(for harmony while singing)

can someone enlighten me what the differences are between a service and a mass? my FH is non-catholic, and so are most of my guests, so i was wondering if a service is more appropriate?

msclaire

New Member
nec, i don't think i'll be engaging philip. Since its just possibly 4 songs (opening, closing, res psalm, signing of certs) i was thinking of just getting 1 male and 1 female singer to do very nice duets, and perhaps organ and violin/flute. Not sure whether it will sound empty without full choir harmony anot.

Blush, my FH is also non-catholic, so his whole family is pretty much non-church going. Which is why we opted for a wedding service instead of a full mass. The difference is you don't have holy communion, which cuts out a lot of the time. In that sense, the service is not so ritualistic in nature, and might be easier for non-catholics to follow. IMHO, i would have preferred a full wedding, where you can truly receive the communion and have a whole choir! BUT I don't want to out my FH in a spot, since he's already giving in by a large margin, nor make the rest of the non-catholics uncomfortable. so there!

Hi Blush

a service will also not have the Eucharistic prayers as well.

You may borrow a church wedding booklet from your priest & check out what the service consist of.

Does anyone know how much does printing of church wedding booklet cost for wedding service? how many pages are there usually?

my FH and his family arent catholics either...but they are very supportive of me having the whole mass thing.

now my mom says the date is not 'ji li' and wants me to ROM on another date and just have the mass without solemnization... bleah.

i think church booklets have abt 20 pages of half A4 size...or abt 10-15 sheets of A4 folded into half.
printing..i was thinking of doing it myself...except for the covers which will look better w some professional color printing...
but if the insides are all black/white words, i think normal printer at home can liao...(then just zap). :p
my budget quite tight, so if can save, then save.

Hi nec, claire,

With regards to the church booklets, you can definitely save alot by printing it on your own. We got some quotes from Bras Basah which was about $2.50-$3 a book.

In the end, we got nice shiny thick papers from Fancy Papers and printed from home. The insides, we printed a copy and zapped the rest. Of cos it's more labour intensive though... but definitely worth the money saved I think.

although i stay in woodlands, i seldom go jb....far...and dangerous haha. i think we also no time to go. either i travelling for work, or fh travelling for work. that's why we trying to plan everything now, in case down the road we get too busy.

yup yup, i heard many pple say that JB is a good cheap place to get printing done, even the card inserts for wedding dinners.

but we thought about it and decided that it would be too strenuous/troublesome for us.
