Capella Singapore

Thanks for the advice bcnsgp!
Will make sure to check the dates before my food tasting! I hope it's just a one off.

My fiancé and I loved the feel of Capella and also decided to take the leap and sign with them.
My coordinator is Charlene as well and I heard she is quite busy because the other coordinator has resigned.

So far trying to stay positive, but to be completely honest.. getting a wee bit worried.
Every time we have a discussion with her, she tells us she will check and get back to us. Then when we contact her in 2-3 days to see progress, she has completely forgotten what we discussed, much less what she was to check on for us. She never really got back or replied to us except when we were arranging to sign with her, every other time it's us who chase up with her. Don't have the heart to ask her again seeing how busy she is, I just keep my fingers crossed that she knows what she's doing when my AD comes..

By the way have you chosen your flowers, invitations & guestbook? How did you go?

When we signed on the package, we were told by Charlene and a few other of their sales staff at the wedding show that the package included full customization of the invites & guestbook. But having visited their designated printer, we were surprised that only certain styles are available. Quite nice selection for invites, lots to choose from. But with guestbook only the ring-binder type provided, which looked a bit like my high school notebook. Any further customization incurred added costs - eg. a few hundred dollars (!!) just to change to normal cover-bound guest book.

Hi all,

Was just reading the latest posts from Capella and yes we are having the same difficulties trying to arrange something out with Charlene. I'm not too sure how much I can trust her with the arrangements on my big day. Quite a bad experience.

Hello ladies,

Congratulations on the wedding! I am sure you girls are going to have a beautiful wedding... :)

Ivorysnowflake:

I've chosen my flowers at Sing See Soon with Rechelle, and honestly, the service is normal. Nothing fantastic and they won't cater to meeting you outside of the nursery they have in Punggol. It's a far drive so do try to have anything you need done in that one trip you are going to do if you want to see the flower arrangements in person. We think it's kind of absurd that we have to head down to view the flowers ourselves with that price but such is the Singapore wedding industry I suppose.

We picked ours from one of the selections at Papypress and paid extra for the envelopes and something else which I can't remember. We didn't get the letterpress for the 2nd color though since it costs from $700 onwards. Suggestion is to pick one that makes the letterpress effect work instead of some of the more traditional Chinese invites they have at the printing workshop. My guestbook was simple as well, just bound with ribbons I think??

But in all honesty, keep tabs on the progress of your wedding dinner. And when in doubt, keep asking her and keeping records of your correspondence. Don't rely on her to keep track for your big day because she's probably inundated with other weddings to do as well and might neglect yours. Keep on following up with her and if all else fails, ask if you could have a change in coordinator (That would be the final straw actually, so I hope it doesn't happen!)

Taboo:
Ask them if there are other coordinators you can choose from, we changed ours from Charlene to Diane and the experience level has greatly improved. But I understand what you feel and mean... We had that experience before as well and we were the ones who had to keep asking / emailing her until the big fiasco at our 1st food tasting. Mine is going to happen on the 26th Oct.

What about you ladies? When is your dinner(s) scheduled for? :)

Hi taboo,

Yes it's really bad having to keep pushing her n she doesn't reply emails, nv pick up her hp and nv return call until we cc all the other colleagues and demanded for her to reply.

So far I've only managed settled our invitation card.

It's like I'm my own wedding planner... Have to keep chasing her for replies, to give us papypress and sing see soon contact, and the two companies doesn't contact you, you have to contact them instead because I'm not sure if Charlene ever informed them abt it..

Kind of sucky for the price you pay you get lousy service

Hi Klaz and bcnsgp,

Thanks for all the advice.

Yes, really a bad experience. Having said all these, I really do not want any particular individual to affect the location of our choice. We are scheduled for next year August and I think I will request for a change in coordinator. We have arranged for an appointment for the deposit to be place coming weekend. Our package includes - The Sentosa Room and the use of Horizon's Verge for our solemnisation @ 1,888 ++ (discounted price if we book The Sentosa Room together)

I called in the main line last week and spoke to them about this matter and Priscilla Chua was kept in the copy of the email when they replied. i'm not sure how prompt or how things will gonna change, let's keep our fingers crossed.

Any advice for small little things to negotiate at this point in time?

So happy to find a review on Capella. I am thinking about holding my wedding there, but a little worried after reading the reviews.

Taboo, how were your negotiations?

bcnsgp, congratulations on the wedding. Hope it went well :) Any advise for future brides holding their reception in capella?

Hey Sims - I've changed coordinator to Shirley, experience is improved and a much better response.

For the price they are charging - definitely not the kind of service you are expecting. If you need advise, do not hesitate to PM me.

Hey, I think u can have a peace of mind, after months of trying to get Charlene to coordinate things, finally we've been informed that she's leaving the company.

Have my portfolio taken over by her colleague and the new in charge is v v prompt in replying! She's Winnie, I'm waiting for my food tasting next week!

Seriously I had the same bad experience too, ever seems we signed up the package from Michelle to Charlene now just handed over to Winnie. Everything is just not handed over properly! My documents eg. Our last signed contract which is on the 16th may 2013 till now, nearly half a year.. Winnie is asking for us to sign and send back again. Which we had already PERSONALLY drive down our own to hand over the cash & hard copy, b'coz we do not want to expose our card details online ever since may. Now that I wanted to fix a date with Winnie for the florist & card printing design, and she told us to contact on our own, and that we could get a direct faster respond from them. So did you girls have to contact on your own, without the assistant from the cathering manager?

Cheer up !!! I understand it can be tough having to handle your wedding with lousy service staff, but it's our wedding :)!!

Yes I've gotten papypress n sing see soon contacts directly n liaise with them on our own. It's much more faster n efficient than relying on Capella..

Yep, we contacted SSS and PP on our own. Much faster. PapyPress replies quite quickly.

Hi ladies,

I recently just got engaged and am looking for a place to hold the banquet. I initially wanted Capella but the reviews doesn't seem very good. Is the package worth it? Weekends are probably more exp than $1688 ++? Possible to negotiate downwards?

Sorry for so many questions as I'm new but thanks anyway!

Hey Kittykatchen,

Capella is a beautiful place to hold a wedding despite the online reviews, which seems to be attributed to the coordinator. But thank god she seems to have left.

The weekend package is more expensive than 1,688++ if you are holding a dinner reception in the grand ballroom. It really depends on what you are looking for. Don't think it's possible to negotiate downwards but maybe you can negotiate for more perks that you find that you might need on your special day

2014 rates are $1888++ for weekend dinners. $1688++ are 2013 rates.

Hi all, I initially had Steven and was later passed over to Priscilla. Being the senior director doesn't help. She's extremely slow in response and is never around, not even for another viewing of the venue. Next step is for me to complain to the senior management to get answers...

Hi! I signed up sometime in oct 2013 and my co-ordinator is Winnie.. She is nothing like all the previous coordinator(which i read from all the previous messages). From meeting up with her for the first time at wedding show, placing deposit to multiple meet up discussions was always fun-filled with laughters.. Very smooth journey and she is always there to help us with enquiries.. Hopefully it stays this way til my wedding day ^.^

Hi,

Did you manage to bring this up to the senior management? I am having the same problem!!! It is frustrating as i thought Capella would manage everything professionally and the wedding planning will b a breeze for us as we r both busy! but it seems to cause us more unnecessary frustration

Thanks

Hi All, I just met with the wedding planner at Capella, who is there for just a year. I thought she is really nice and very responsive. Her name is Vanessa.

Anyway, my fiance and I really like Capella's environment but am a little worried about the food. Anyone has any review/comment on that? Thanks in advance :)

Hi there! I had my wedding on 20.12.2014 and it was really a very pleasant experience with the Capella Team. Food were very yummy, my guests were all praises... When ure going for food tasting the chef will ask for your comments if u will prefer less oil less salt less sweet etc.. They will take note and cook according to your preferences for each dish. Thumbs up!

I'm getting married in this dec 2019 and I booked my venue with them!

Experience wise, would really not recommend.
For their status and their prices the service level is really not up to par.

They don't get back to you and you have to keep chasing them for updates.
& very stingy with the perks as well, etc food tasting is only for 6 pax, not much room for negotiation for others.
You have to pay for solemnisation venues as well, ranging from 5-15k, so please do take it into consideration!
-> Banquet decors are very lacklustre, please do remember to hire an external decorator if you booked their venue!

And they are only quick when they are asking for payments :p:p:p

I would advise to go for Sofitel Singapore or Ritz instead.
