Hellos ladies

Elizabeth - Enjoy your engagement day!
bounce.gif

It will be absolutely gorgeous I am sure.

Karen - your mutliple weddings sound so much fun! your kebaya sounds like a hit in HK.

Maddcow - this is a really old question you raised - stephanotis but I think they look like jasmines - do you happen to know if they are the same? and if we can get them in Sgp?

However, just in case you haven't found the answer...
Jasmine like the kind you get from little india is a bit diff from stephanotis (also called the Madagascar Jasmine). This is becos the little india kind is smaller and stronger smelling, and the petals are more "pointy" than stephanotis. I'm not a botanist, so this is just my uneducated "viewing" of the respective flowers.

Yes, I you can buy both - I used both stephanotis and jasmine for my wedding in Singapore.

Jasmine we just bought large quantities from little india, mixed them up with shredded petals and rolled them into paper "kachang putih cones" and flower girls went around with them in rattan baskets to distribute to guests to throw as confetti. If you have seen our photos of the ceremony you can see that that went down quite a storm. The only problem is that if your friends refridgerated the flowers they become COLD and HARD - kinda like walking through a hail storm....

Stephanotis was bought with the rest of our wedding flowers from Wishing Tree - I think they were used in my hair, but check with them because it may be seasonal..

Liz - Congratulations and Best Wishes, yes, agree with ribbit, I'm sure it was lovely

Really excited, cos i have, at long last, decided on the designer for my WG! Will be with Margaret Brides, who specialises in lace. Can't wait to get started. but the new batch of french lace will only arrive after chinese new year. haven't decided on who to use for EG though. shall post more in due course.

helloooos?? where are you? how did the cheongsam hunt go in HK? when's your next session with Margaret?

Hi girls! Haven't been checking in. Just got back from Hong Kong. Didn't make a cheong sum this trip. Maybe next year. Had a glance and the prices at bridal shops in HK and I think it's about the same as the boutiques here too. Stumbled upon the Lane Crawford warehouse sale, but didn't see anything I liked. Later a friend told me I was actually near the Prada warehouse sale too! Next time... next time

Dewy... my fellow flower-enthusiast
I went to the flower market in HK. And the flowers are really fresh and cheap. Cos they come from China into HK every morning, I'm told around 4am. I bought a variety and tried my hand at floral arrangement, and boy am I humbled. It's not as easy as it looks. First, you got to pick the right flower, and in the right state of bloom, and then match the flower to the vase, and get the right foliage. And with all that handling, you've got to make sure you treat delicate buds with care, or the petals will drop off. I need lots of practise.

Maddcow,
Well, I didn't manage to make petit fours. Tried with cookies first and that didn't go too well cos I left it in the oven for too long. I think cos I pre-heated the oven really well, so I should have cut down baking time by 2-5 min. Cookies are still a possibility but I have to really practise a lot more. I tried a no bake cheese cake and that was easy and great! But I don't see how I can make them in bulk way in advance. How's the wedding prep? Do give us an update!
happy.gif

e
That's great! We'll be using the same designer. Actually, I'll only be seeing her after CNY too. And I'm keeping my gown as well. Drop me an email. We can talk about dresses in detail

Karen

happy.gif

How's everyone? How's Christmas prep?

roses! hehe, wah your "fa-deen" flower madness is quite deep... i wish i was there at the flower market too! soooo nice. arranging flowers is like, every tai-tai wannabe's dream job, but you're right it's not so easy. got to learn from the pros and practice a lot, books help too. hey, are you going to be in HK again next year? i'm going for a friend's wedding in Feb... just after CNY. anyone else going to be in HK too???

maddcow - how's the countdown, no bridal nerves i hope?! do update us, and let us join in your excitement! i'll be thinking of you...
happy.gif

can't believe it's christmas so soon... this year just flew past for me coz of the wedding whirlwind. hope everyone's doing well, and having lots of fun getting ready to spend the holiday season with friends and family!

hi ladies!! everyoen been busy?

Liz ..haven't seen u on MSN in a while? how's things going in holland?

roses.. wow exciting progrees with the flowers!!!
happy.gif
it's trickier than it looks isn't it? you know you can get pretty cheap flowers to practise on in SG too at the markets. I got mine at bedok market and it's much cheaper than those from the florists. lower overhead perhaps? hey too bad about hte petit fours! i'm thinking of making em as gifts to mail out for the holidays hrmm..right the keyword here is thinking hee.

maddcow...where are you?? back in SG yet? The wedding's creeping up! keep us posted
happy.gif

Hi gals!
This thread is so quiet.
Anyway, I just popped in here to wish everyone a Happy New Year ahead! Hope everyone is having a jolly good time.

happy.gif

Hi all!!! Happy New Year! I'm so glad I registered with Singapore Brides and found this forum. Very nice to know there are similar issues everywhere!! I think I can qualify for a whole bunch of them. But anyway, right now my main problem is I'm in Honolulu and planning my wedding reception for sometime in Nov '06 (gotta wait for my dad to pick auspicious date) so... I'm kind of aimless. I had a theme... but so far responses haven't been very encouraging so I'm a little bummed. Anyway... Happy New Year once again... and good luck to all future brides!!!

lentina, welcome to e thread! saw ur posting at outdoor weddeing too

Haven’t checked in for a long time and gosh, it’s been really quiet around here…

Welcome snoozy and lentina
Sorry, I don’t have answer to your questions…

liz

roses
can’t wait for my design and fabric-picking session with Margaret!
happy.gif
keep me updated on how yours went!

*waves* to everyone else

Have finally nailed down my AD photographer. Now looking for good tailor who can make nice cheongsam for tea dress, and also a cheaper tailor who can make my bridesmaids’ dresses… anyone has recommendations?

e!!!

It's nice to see someone post here. Hi hi! Margaret hasn't called me yet. But I'm really looking forward to the experience of having my wedding dress made. Keep me posted too!

Cheongsam... there was a feature in the Fashion supplement of the Straits Times recently, and they listed some good Cheongsam tailors. As for a cheaper tailor...I don't know any, you may find it more wothwhile to buy something suitable off the rack from Tangs, Isetan, Metro... even Mango and Zara. At least that's what I would do if I had a bridesmaid. Esp with the post CNY sales now on.

e, u can try ted collection located opp chinatown point, they mtm cs, their design are very diff from ort ones. they are friendly n give many ideas to make ur wedding more fun too. hmm.. .. u can mention my name if u want =)
oh ya. there thread abt them at this forum, some brides do post their cs over there

hi everyone! gong xi fa cai!!!

Hi e, have you considered buying dresses off the internet like from 'weddingfashion'-S'pore based internet company? Could possibly be cheaper. I didn't get stuff from them (only found this website later) but I did buy my wedding dress pattern and cloth off the internet.

Snoozy, I think its quite common for companies to ask for the 3 digit code when paying by credit card. I'm normally asked for this when buying stuff off the internet. But if you're not too sure about how reliable the company is you should call them up and clarify with them.

Looks like this thread has been revived!
happy.gif

Been reading through some of your posts, seems that quite a few of you are based in the UK. Well, so am I, so thought I'll just say 'hi'.
happy.gif

hi i'm rather new here and am based in UK but arranging a wedding in SG!!..FH is british and i'm clueless about chinese wedding traditions... my parents are not too sure what they are suppose to do too!!! i'm picking up some tips and traditions here... but I was just wondering if your parents and in laws sat down to discuss dowry and bethoral gifts? ..

Hi {girl}, yes the peak district is very nice. Did you visit Sheffield over the winter holidays?

I'm not exactly in Sheffield, I live in a village just outside a town called Retford about 45 mins drive away from Sheffield. Its about a 2 hour drive to manchester on a good day.
happy.gif

Have added you to my yahoo msg, looking forward to chatting with you sometime.

Hi ladies,

I haven't been around. Been busy. Finally my wedding date for church has been fixed. It will be on 19 Aug. Ya! Postpone from June to Aug coz of finacial tightness. As for wedding in the law, yet to be fixed, as we still need to get permission from the immigration office for approval even I got my residence permit pass. SIGH!!! It takes about 4 to 6 weeks for their reply. Hopefully we can do it at end of April or June before church as we need the documents to be able to mary in church. Since Jeroen serves in the church, so it's easier to get things going.

I haven't been into planning but now only 4 months to go, have to start sourcing and planned.

GTG! Will write again. Till then!

Hi Girl, i'm hokkien ... i've asked my parents what they did for their wedding... they said they used ang pow to bao everything.. but they want to find out what traditions we are 'suppose' to perform... can help?

Hi Mrs N.. you're here too!!..
happy.gif

Hi, everyone.

I'm new here too and was brought here by Mrs N (HI!). I am also overseas in UK (London) and planning my wedding in SG. Charmaine, guess we are in the same boat. Any details to share?

hi stary - FH and i went home for 2 weeks at CNY and was meeting caterers hotels and photographers... by the end of the 2 weeks, we knew which ones to go for and confirmed them just before we left. We discussed and lined up appointments before we went home... as long as you're organised and with email and phone ... should be ok...!! we going home again in sept before our wedding in april to finalise details...

Where abouts in London are you? i'm working here but living in oxford...!

Hi, Charm.

You mean your wedding in Apr this year? That's fast.

Anyway, who did you decided on for hotels/BS/PS/VG, etc... Care to share? Did you consider consider getting anything here e.g. gowns? I am thinking of that as there is no time to go back for fittings.

Also, are you holding any "event" in UK?

I am working in the City and stay in Central London. You? It must be a journey to go from Oxford and London everyday. I have been to Oxford and love it. Lucky you. Wish I could stay in the "countryside" but the commute would just kill me.

P/S: Want to converse via email else we might just hijack this thread. :o)

charamine, did u go to hokkien thread, there's quite few tips abt wedding stuff. let me check w my mum next wk when i call home ;)hmm.. ur wedding is it next yr april?

stary, what u mean hijack? sorry me very blur one
sad.gif

Hi Liz glad to know that the wedding date is settled. Hope your preparations for wedding and the course next month are going well. Will keep you in prayers.
happy.gif

Hi Stary & Charmaine, nice to see you here too. Stary if you want to know good places to source for gowns and wedding stuff in London, you could try asking on this forum.

http://www.confetti.co.uk/cafe/default.asp

I got quite a few money-saving ideas off this forum when I (or rather my hubby)
biggrin.gif
planned our wedding last year.
Hee! Hee! Only discovered SGbrides after I was married. Yah! Typical muddle-headed me doing things back to front!
lol.gif

Hi girl I think I know what went wrong with my msn just now. Held the 'shift key' too long and the computer when 'clonk' and then after that everything went haywire. Ha! Ha! Had to shut down the computer. Now everything back to normal I think. So cartoon, huh?
happy.gif

Hi, Mrs N.

Thanks very much for the website. Saw some quite positive comments for some of the designers I was looking at so feel more comforted. :o)

Hi, lilo.

By hijack means changing the subject of the thread totally since Charm and I were talking about more personal stuff rather than wedding preps. Hee...

hi Girls,
Don't mind me sharing my experience. I've been married almost a year now, and also wondered how to incorporate the east/west customs. My dad's hokkien, mum is cantonese, and I was clueless
happy.gif
In the end, we decided to have only the tea ceremony, and played a couple of games during the meal. The hubby also sang a chinese song picked by my aunt, and that went down very well with everyone. So no real 'tradition' apart from tea ceremony, but I think the relatives appreciated the fact that we did try to incorporate some of the eastern stuff. The western bit was really getting married in church, but perhaps that's more 'religious' than 'western'
