Marilyn, i saw photos of your dresses in this forum last year and I thought Kim did an awesome job! Really inspiring! I was impressed enough to seek her out & got her to make an evening gown for my wedding which i absolutely adore. I paid $150 for cloth & $100 for her workmanship. Worth every cent! I hope sharing my experience may be helpful.

1. Decide if you need the gown for photo-taking/ tea ceremony/ ROM/ wedding. Contact Kim at least 3-4 months before you need the gown. The earlier the better if its peak period (Sep-Dec, Feb).

2. make an appointment with Kim & show her sketches/ photos of your desired gown. she's got some photos of her previous creations at her place plus some fashion mag you can browse for more ideas too. let her take your measurements.

3. get Kim to bring you to browse for cloth at Arab Street. She'll advice you which cloth is suitable for your gown & how much of it to buy. (I fell so in love with a cloth here that made me did a 180 deg turn on my design. fickle is the female heart)

4. buy cloth & pass it to Kim. Arrange your fitting dates. If you don't like certain things during your fittings (eg, collar too high, dress too loose), just tell her frankly. Its important to communicate well with her so she knows exactly what you want.

5. Lastly, good luck & have fun!

looks like most pple go to arab street to look for materials. while there is a wide variety of materials to choose from, i think some do charge exorbitantly.

Just want to recommend that indian sarees have a wide range to choose from too and are equally elaborate, if not, even more elaborate and exotic. they have beaded ones, hand-woven designs and embroidery too. A saree comes in 6m (need to wrap ard the fats mah) and ranges from as cheap as 30 bucks for normal cloth to above 120 for hand-woven silk. It's long enough to make a long cheongsum and a matching shirt for yr hubby (to make a pair, like malay couple if u like, haha). I have seen beaded materials that are less than 50 per m (i guess that is pretty cheap?). I bought hand-woven silk with bit of crystals at $192 for 6m. Embroidered thai silk (those smooth ones usually used for CS) at arab street range from abt 40 to 52 bucks per m. Do the math and can see sari is relatively cheaper for material of same quality. Can try this Hannifah at little india. n i doubt u have to look like 'ah pu neh neh' using saree as the material...heee

Hello ladies

I am making a full length cheongsum and bustier dress for my bridesmaid. Her charges are pretty ressonable, definitely cheaper than if you make it at a bridal studio.

However I had to buy the cloth/material which I purchased from Royal Fabrics at Arab street where they have beautiful sequinned, lace, chiffon , etc fabrics. I spent a total of 300-400 dollars on material alone for both myself and bridesmaid.

her workman ship price depends on your design. Yes, she can make a copy if you want.

Her charges at least in the range of 150-200 + SGD onwards . Again it is subject how intricate or complicated your design is.

AhJo77, I do not have pictures yet as the end product is not ready but I trust Judy's work. Give her a call if you are interested.

Sorry I have been busy settling down since I got married. Had no time to email this forum.

Judy is a great person to work with. If you want to get a CS ready by July, best to get yr material and design to Judy in February 07. She normally wants you to do 1 - 2 fittings to make sure that the gown is 100%.

I was happy with the results. I made a bridesmaid dress+ CS with her.

I think i will go ard to see those CS tat are sold off the rack 1st. See if i look good in them then i decide if i should make. If these OTR cheongsam dun fit well then mayb i will make la hahaha i very scared fat dun look nice.

My sis most likely oso wans to do a CS or a cocktail dress....

I'm also looking for a good seamstress to do my wedding gown & evening gown for me. Have checked with a few bridal studios reg renting of gowns, cost around $450/day - and thats the cheapest. Hope getting a tailor made gown would bring me more savings.

I am glad that you liked the gown. I designed it myself based on inspiration from TanYoong bridal. I am pleased with the result and my family and guests had praises for the gown.

I got the material from Royal Fabrics, which was not cheap as Judy advised me to get good stuff.

Hi everyone, i want to share with you a bad experience i had with this alteration shop located behind Converse at Far East Plaza on the 3rd level. It is sharing the shop space with a shop that sells 'Victorian style clothes'. I had a pair of Mango pants and bermudas altered by the couple there. My bermudas was supposed to be sized down but was still too loose despite giving her the right proportions and the seamstress said if i want to size it down again, i should pay. Even insisted I lost weight. She asked me to shift the pants buckle inwards and i will be able to wear!

She forgot to alter my Mango pants and i had to come back another day. When I went back to collect, I could see ripples running down the inner legs. There was also an iron print on one part of the inner leg. She then said she will mend the ripples. I went back yesterday and she merely ran another thread over the pants. My pants were ruined. When I wanted a refund, she said there was nothing wrong from what she see and no refund, she already did alterations and didnt even charge me the second time. She even chase us out of the shop and claim she didnt alter the inner leg finally. There were clearly 2 strings of stitches and she could still deny it. We could not argue with her because we didnt have any the receipt, the receipt was given to her when I collect the pants the first time round. And anyway she wrote in such illegible Chinese handwriting that you cannot argue with her even if she is wrong.

I have given her so much business and this is how they treated me when things go wrong. I am so disheartened How evil can people be!

Please BEWARE when sending your clothings to this Shop. Better approach other shops cos you WILL NOT get a refund or compensation like me if _ _ _'_ ALTERATION spoils your clothes . My pants cost $55!
