I'm thinking of going to Australia for honeymoon in Feb but is stuck with a few choices - Gold coast, melbourne, cairns, sydney.

If i'm thinking of going to 2 of the places, which 2 are most preferred?

See from this forum that many ppl went for F&E travel, can anyone advise me how is it to be done? What's the budget like?

Hi, would like to share our experience.

just came back from our 10-day honeymoon in Australia (Melbourne & Sydney). Book the F&E package from Chan Brother. We spent the first 4 nights in Melbourne (Ramada Hotel) & then 5 nights in Sydney and surroundings (YHA hostels).

11 Oct - a night flight to melbourne.

12 Oct - Reached Melbourne airport very early in the morning around 5am. Airport transport pre-arranged to hotel. Early checked-in and continue to sleep until 9am. Visited the Royal Botanical Garden and Melbourne City surroundings (such as St. Kilda Beach) using the Tram. At night, visited the Crown casino & stroll around the Yarra river. Nice for night photography.
13 Oct - Morning laze around the city (Queen Victoria Market & China Town). Afternoon, a local farm tour follow by an evening tour to Philip Island to witness the Penguin Parade. Reached back hotel 11:30pm.
14 Oct - Follow a Day tour to Great Ocean Road. Reached back hotel around 8:30pm
15 Oct - Visited some musuems, observation deck, melbourne aquarium and richmond street for the factory outlet sales (didn't buy anyting). Watch a movie in the night at China Town(only A$8.00 per person)
16 Oct - Early 8.15am domestic flight to Sydney via Virgin Blue operator. Reached Sydney around 9:30am and then took a train from Airport to central station. Checked in into Sydney Central YHA approx 11am. Venture into the city - China Town, Darling Harbour, Sydney Opera House & etc.
17 Oct - Rent a car from Avis and drove to Blue moutain which is away from the city - journey approx. 1.30 hour. Stayed in Blue Moutain YHA. Visited the Three Sister, scenic walk & etc.
18 Oct - still with Blue mountain YHA, drove to Jenolan cave and did two caves adventure.
19 Oct - Drove to Wollongong and reached there in the afternoon. Had a nice buffet lunch. Nice beaches with light houses. Can do sky diving (but didn't try)
20 Oct - Visited the Nan Tien temple before leaving wollongong back to Sydney. Reached sydney approx. 2pm. Visited the paddys market for more souvenirs.
21 Oct - Visited the sydney fish market early in the morning for a nice seafood meal. Check out around 10am and temporary store our luggages in the locker room available at the YHA. Continue venture into the city as our flight is at 3:50pm. Touch down in singapore approx. 9:30pm.

In total, we've spent approx $2.6k per person for all expenses incl. souvenirs and car rental. In short, we prefer melbourne over sydney in term of city. Anyway, we love blue mountain the best.

Gold Coast: Surfer Paradise and theme parks like Sea World, Movie World, Wild Wild Wet, forgot the other world ***

Melbourne: Great Ocean Rd, Queen Victoria Market ***

Sydney: City-like (I personally do not like it)

Carins: Not been there but with water sports

Think it really depends on what u like to do and see. Gold Coast is mainly havin fun at the beach or DreamWorld/MovieWorld/SeaWorld/Wet n Wild. If u want to visit one of the worlds, choose Dreamworld coz it's the most fun of all. (But personally I dunt really like Gold Coast unless I want to see the beach.)

Melbourne if u like the city. Gd food n shopping. Can normally find better chinese food there than in other states.

Sydney if u like the harbor n loads of cafes ard. Love the seafood there.

Dunt know much abt Cairns too.

when you gg gold coast, you can consider go Mount Tamborine...ard half an hr drive to the mountain..got winery..and cafe at the hill top.. used to go there for breakfast when studying in brisbane..

if you gg for the 3 worlds..consider to buy the value pass whereby including the entry fees for all the three theme parks...

Hi all,

Hi Samantha

we went to gold coast/sunshine coast & brisbane for our HM...

it was wonderful, still miss australia soooo much!

I went in July, quite cold.. 10-15 degrees

Good country to visit, shiok!

hi, i have a lonely planet Sydney guidebook, latest edition for sale. I used it for recent trip to Sydney. Bought from borders in early March at $35.70, selling at $20. Book in good condition. Interested, pls email [email protected]

I have stayed in aussie for almost 6 yrs.. all I can say is Sydney is vy much like Sg.. but a better plc to shop ard even though most ex among all the cities. If u looking for fun, then I suppose going to Cairns is best.. not to mention their romantic Islands..

im planning to go for my HM in jul to gold coast & brisbane....anyone can advise how much budget shld i set aside? thank you

If on a budget, per person including air-tickets taxes, meals and apartment accomodation and NOT driving, u should set aside S$2000-S$2500. i.e. if you enjoy eating takeaways like fish and chips or grilled chickens and 2 or 3 meals at restaurants. I did a 10D8N tour covering fraser island (day trip), Brisbane Museum, Chinatown, Mt Cootha and Botanica gardens, Gold Coast Q1, Pacific Fair shopping, Broadbeach Mall, Springbrook national park and Bryon bay(day trip), Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary plus 2 days lazing at the beach last October
happy.gif
Of course my breakfasts consist of mainly own made omelettes and buttered milkbread with spam ham; lunches and dinner, delicious homecooked spaghetti
happy.gif
plus whatever yummy meats, salads or fast food (even their KFC taste better) supplements bought from supermart or takeaways. If you are planning to stay in hotel, chip in add another $500 for meals and laundry transport and tips and of course you should set aside some cash for souvenir and stuffs...

I must say although I've covered all the cities in Down Under (except Darwin), I still very much prefer Melbourne. Ever increasing Asian population, but an absolutely gorgeous place to live, wine, dine, play and watch the arts. My four years there were a blast. So if you wanna know more abt Melbourne... I'm more than happy to share

Hi Veronica,

The usual places of interest in the city are the Opera House, the Rocks, Sydney Observatory (aka Sydney Tower), Chinatown, Darling Harbour, Sydney Fish Market, Sydney Aquarium.

A ferry ride away you can get to Manly or Bondi Beach.

If you're going in end Oct, early November, you can consider joining a day tour for dolphin watching. It includes admission into one of the zoos that they stop along the way.

I thought of gg to Melbourne for HM next July...in early July in fact, will it be really cold? snowing? wanted to go up to Mt Buller (if i didnt rem wrongly) for snowboarding..anyone can advise?

i thought of gg F&E but the trip up to the mountain seems alittle tricky to get there..what u gals suggest?

hi deannen,

if u going in july, mt buller should be snowing & hence, snowing actvities will be on..when i went in may-june, no snow though...

it should be quite easy for a F&E trip. however, it was abt 3 hrs plus drive fr mel city..the route to the mt buller (not going uphill yet) is OK, even for amatuer driver. But when really going uphill, it can be abit tedious, but should be OK for seasoned drivers...

hope this helps!

Hi,

Am planning to go to Sydney in June. Can anyone advise any cheap places to stay in Sydney and Blue Mountains? Thanks.

Hi,

I'm also going to Sydney in June/July. I actually booked the Travelodge Sydney Wynyard Hotel which supposedly is near to the Rocks, Circular Quay and CBD areas.

Anyway, you can check the rates at www.travelodge.com.au.

Hi everyone,

Am planning to go Australia during CNY, intend to go ard 10days to cover Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, will 10days be sufficient? Or which is a better combination, pls advise?
Thxs!

Do a self-drive down the Great Ocean Road, you can go for the bed and breakfasts and farmstays. Go see Glow worms at nite, peer at fairy penguins with binoculars at twilight.

Then drive down to dandenongs and stay at the Arcaadia cottages, full glass wall facing your bed, see the stars at night, your cottage is completely surrounded by trees. Really really romantic

hey peeps, if you're looking at spending time in new south wales...i can share our journey with you. we just came back from NSW for our anniversary...really great place to go for those who like a little of everything...

we self drive and spent 10 days exploring different facets of NSW...

Sydney - city place...take ferries to Manly and Bondi beaches...spend time at darling harbour...eat lobster in sydney fish market...check out the direct factory outlets...

then we drove to Port Stephens...coastal experience...see dolphins!

then we drove to Hunter Valley...check out the vineyards...free tasting with majority of them. our favourite leg of the journey...so beautiful...

then we drove to Blue mountains...the coldest leg of the journey...a lot of tourists at the Echo Point and scenic railway...but nice mountain view...nice little village at Leura

then back to sydney...

good experience to fly to one place yet experience 4 different styles all within one boundry with travelling not more than 4 hours drive max.

Hey ,
anyone had their honeymoon at the countryside of Australia?
would really love to visit it but was hoping to hear from those with more experience x)

Hi,

I went to melbourne with a friend for 2 weeks,
last year sept.

We stayed at a motel (usually more cheaper and equally furnished as hotel) just outside CBD and walking distance to the tram & bus stops.

Car is not a need, as parkings are usually expensive.
Unless you really want to drive to CBD, its cheaper to park at the Crowne casino hotel,(about AUS$10 per day) then go do shoppings.

What we did was, to take bus/tram to CBD and
took up some day tours sight-seeings like APT or AAT kings.

should visit Queen Victoria market,
smiths street for factory outlets.

Melissa.

All the best for your travel.Remember, traveling for honeymoon seems not to be the chance of you being searched at airport security, particularly if one is not obviously on a business trip. You should know that how to pack accordingly.

any idea if i should go on a day trip to great ocean road or self-drive? will be in melb for 10days. 6days on the ski resorts. 4days in melb city. TIA

Palm Cove - that's where we went, absolutely amazing!

20 mins drive from Cairns, 40 minutes from Port Douglas and Daintree. You can do reef cruises, day trips, rainforest tours, hot air ballooning etc.

Palm Cove itself is on the beach, quite secluded, but lots of hotels to choose from at any budget. There are heaps of restaurants, and romantic walks too. It is easy to hire a car and go shopping/see movies in Cairns

What time of year are you going? It is very hot and humid in Queensland in summer and quite rainy. The best time of year according to the locals is August and September - 25 degrees every day and little rain. We went in August and it was beautiful.
