Not sure if this came too late.. I went Turkey with Chan Bro's last March, and I had a great time =) Many nice photos there...and I think May is a good time, we were told flowers are in full bloom (tulips, poppy flowers). We went hot air ballooning in Cappadoccia too..was a great experience..

Safety-wise I didn't encounter much issue, just practice the usual travel precautions. The sellers can be overly pushy and sometimes intimidating at some of the bazaars, especially if you seem interested but refuse to buy!
