A Place for Singles

Haha... powder, you so eng to go and watch pple cheonging sales?? My hb hates crowds more than me so Orchard is like the Gaza Strip to us.. we avoid, avoid, avoid. Only exception is if there's a sale at Borders. Recently we got a coupon to enjoy 30% off for 3 books and 40% for 4 books, so of course must go lah... hehe..

LV will never have sale one.. want cheaper LV must go to Paris. Anyway now the Euro seems pretty low so it's a good time to go and shop. Strangely unlike most women, I have lost the craving for branded bags... I used to love them, but not so now. Maybe I just feel they lose their uniqueness cos so many pple are carrying the same logos around. I'm looking forward to discovering interesting brands in BKK..;)

tat's a good change - to switch to unique designs... me not eng, me just very kaypo... i am a shopaholic tat doesn't buy... but when i buy, i buy a few pieces/colours...

no way i metrosexual man! erm... dun wear tie, dun wear long sleeve shirt, no cufflinks - never owned 1... if u see me in shenton way u will siam me cos u think i wanna give u flyer... keke

BKK also good (for shopping).

eh estrellaq, regard your post earlier, like 1-2 days ago. I know it's difficult cos I think I face the same problem too. Cannot say find your niche first then decide to chiong lah. Dam difficult one.

I say chiong first then your niche will come.

Happy Birthday Laundry...

i nvr tot i will buy anything yesterday while going shopping.. but i bot 9 tops, one pair of shoes, one skirt and one pants haha! mango has this 10% storewide until 26th nov... i bot 3 tops from there... lucky no crowd...

powder i only go for 30% or more sales... like coach sale at DFS.. i have additional 15% on top for the VIP card.. boutiques nothing much, stuck up salespeople, and expensive bags... i prefer to go DFS....

"Ah siao, u went for overseas education? Where?? *Blardy rich kids* Eheheheh... Aiyah, u can turbo anything wat.

Ceci ah... u will be my designated Coach supplier... let me get a list of items from my wife, aunties, gfrens, mum, cousins, fren's frens wives etc... hehe

bboy,
"chiong first then your niche will come."

It’s contrary to the popular mantra, “Identify your goal & work towards it." Perhaps “chiong first†will work, you may not have defined your goal but there should be at least an idea to guide you to your 1st step. Thereafter, an opportune stroke of luck or chance definitely helps. The dangerous part is being a bull charging round and round in the bull-ring, at the end of it, it's stripped of its energy and making no progress.

that's why i know what u mean lor.

so i'm taking a different approach now. Chiong first.

cos, new endeavours don't come around ever so often. The idea of luck is overrated sometimes. Some people believe it's what you make of what you have now.

That's why a lot of people are stuck in their jobs now thinking that they are unlucky not to have been given a job they like, a job they can identify with, a job they can have a passion for. Not realising that if you chiong first, perhaps more opportunities will come.

Not attacking anyone in particular here but say people in certain jobs. I'm sure you've heard them complain their job doesn't challenge them, doesn't bring out their potential, and hence with this kind of attitude, they plough along. When you plough along with this kind of attitude, how is anyone going to 'discover' you and introduce you to open other doors?

It still happens sometimes. I have seen with unbridled frustration. Friend complain job no good, go to work late, come back early, say does not pay well enough, and want to leave job for one with higher pay and better prospects. Then lo and behold, he will find one lor. And it's happened twice. And his new job is always those kind don't require previous experience one. Can you believe it? Can happen twice one leh! That's what you and I would call luck estrella but can we take it for granted that it will happen to you and me ever so often?

I always believe it's better to leave a job proving to everyone that you have nothing left to prove before you leave it. Conquer every mountain you come across before moving to the next one.

Wake me up when u are done talking about shopping. Zzzzz....

I'm back from my birthday binge! Really eat & eat. Had dinner at the new Vibe restaurant at Meritus Negara. Not bad. Has the atmosphere but a little ex. & it's meat galore so vegans can forget about going there.

Latino, confirm lah. Ask the BIG MAN to give me at least 3 choices to choose from hor. Wahahah...

Powder, Simpleman, I may be going to Tokyo in Jan leh. Give me your shopping list! So much for saving money & going on cheap trips.
happy.gif

Bedokboy, thanks for the birthday wishes. As for the song, I dowan! Dowan! Dowan!! Took me eternity to get to where I am today leh. I refuse to turn back the clock!

Ah siao, got money go OZ still not rich kid meh? OZ means either Curtin or Murdoch or RMIT or UMel rite? S'poreans always go to those few one. About the QQ, I agree actually. Fren and I kept joking tat if we ever spy a car door lying on the expressway, chances are it'll belong to a QQ. Biodegradable car. Eheheh...

Hmm... Finding a job is like finding a spouse.
At 20, a girl wants the best man.
At 30, a girl wants a good man.
By 40, any man will do.
Think I've reached the age of 40 prematurely where jobs are concerned. So long as it pays the bills. :P

fyi, QQ not allowed on China expressways...

oh i love shopping by myself, not the ask-fren-to-buy type... can't deny myself the fun of browsing and the heartache when the lady says "sori last piece"! arrrgh...

laundry_woes,

Yeah, get a PS3 for me when you are in Japan - if you can get your hands on one.

As for finding a spouse, I don't think it is that difficult as long as we open our eyes and get to meet more people and not have rule people out due to impressions or perceptions.

hmm not really lah... just saw one tat she likes. well if really need to then i'll ask... otherwise it's ok lah, me no like to trouble pple for purchases. for Coach it's better to holiday in the US and buy a few back... like my fren's wifey recently.

but tks! so sweet of u...
happy.gif

estrellalq & bboy,

me feels best to just identify the industry and cheong... it's only when u cheong then can u get to see the niche, the loopholes and unknown routes had u not cheong...

sat i just had a gathering with my classmates... metup with someone i have spent endless hours and days sharing advice with. No change, still a sucker for Recognition. 7-8yrs of work and changing scopes, still below 3k... i have been telling him the bottomline HAS to be Money first, Get that right, and u Open Yourself to more choices. but he loves the pat on the shoulder too much. he now has to live hand-to-mouth and talks about $50 increments when i'm giving my guys 10 times of tat...

what we want from our jobs must coincide with what we want in Life... and most times, what we want in life requires some financial well-being.

powder,

Yeah, when you are young it is good time to cheong because when you are older it all become pointless.

I believe financial rewards make a lot of sense when you are younger - still in your 20s or early to mid 30s. However, as time goes by it can become meaningless because where do you stop?

I mean when you are making 3K you think that you will be happy with 6K. When you get to 6K you think if you have 10K it will be all the world for you. Then when you hit 10K, you will be wanting 20K and 30K. It is a never-ending climb. The more you earn, the more you want.

It is important to have a balance to earn enough to do what you want and know when to stop. Otherwise it is an endless pursuit.

no problem powder... i always think if can cheaper then utilise it.. why spend more $ when u can get the same thing at cehaper price.. its not as if one pocket of the bag will be missing if you buy it cheaper haha! i had helped forumers here buy be4... no worries... my uncle is tour guide.. sometimes i ask him get for him for some of the stuff that are too ex... got 25% discount

Douglas Foo says, “60% is hard work, 30% is luck and 10% is sheer craziness. Even without the other elements, we might still get by thru hard work…Luck is impt as we came into the mkt at the right time to fill a niche….Lastly, we have a propensity for crazy dreams and willingness to make them come true when no one else would.â€

Powder, really ah? Why? QQ really so lousy meh? I was just making fun of it. Didn't know it was tat bad.

Yah... I also always kenna the "last piece" syndrome. Must be a curse.

Simpleman, is it so difficult to get the PS3 in Japan? I dun mind getting for u leh. But tell me how much and where to get lah.

Powder, I wldnt say yr fren is exactly wrong in choosing recognition. Money could satisfy our material wants but not everyone’s bottomline is money, not everyone is motivated by money. That’s why we always hear, “A rich man may not necessarily be happy.†Besides money, there are other things which could give us greater satisfaction. You get some, you sacrifice some. And you decide where your equilibrium is.

laundry_woes,

Just joking lah. ps3 is in short supply world-wide. Not even launched in SG yet (not in europe as well). It was launched in japan and US (2-3 weeks ago). Japanese price for the 60GB version is 62,800 yen.

I doubt very much you can buy one in Japan.

ya agreed simpleman... totally agreed. mid 20s to late 30s is when we need finances most. becos they will shape not just our lives, but our family's lives too... i dun believe in sh!tloads of money, but i believe i shuldn't be spending all my life working becos i need to, but becos i want to. so on tat basis it shapes the amount of money i want to make at different stages of my life... tat's why i'd like to settle down be a cab driver when i'm in my early 40s... can fetch kids to school, drive pple from A to B and just enjoy driving around spore and seeing the changes. i dun have to drive ALOT to make the money, i just drive cos i feel like it... hehe, oops, or will i contirbute to the hide-and-seek cab drivers having long long coffee breaks?
happy.gif

tks Ceci, it's really a very nice gesture for a cyberfren like me... well if wifey really wants then i pm u. actually last sat the motherhood forum did organize a gathering to purchase Coach... but we felt sort of weird utilizing another person's gesture...
happy.gif

what's the craze abt PS3?? actually i not very in tune with games one.... i see ppl can fight over a set... maybe just like women's craze over branded bags.. haha!

powder, ya motherhood forum got such things.. but think they will charge commission? i dunno... but since we talked so much in the forum for more than a year... i dun mind..

hi estrellalq,

who's Douglas Foo? so pai sei, this fella i really dun know...
embarrassed.gif

for my fren - it's Wrong. he is the one bboy was mentioning abt... complaining abt money not enough etc... Honestly for a Guy - u cannot afford to muck around this stage too long... he got parents, gfren n kid to feed. THEY suffer cos he choose recognition over money subconsciously... embracing false promises and hopes of one day getting there. We may have the youth, but do our families have the time?

i'm quite strict with Guys on this. or shuld i say i'm particularly harsh with my Guy frens. i do have frens who chase passion like Arts, Music, Sports but they believe in it and they dun affect their families from their life choices... but for those who still believe in a lost cause with families suffering, i dun hold back my comments. i think i have seen enough of suffering wives and families to make harsh comments to Men in general who complain abt their jobs and the money.

i totally agree with "A rich man may not necessarily be happy." - i just dun believe coming from a poor man's mouth who uses it as a convenient excuse not to strive harder in life. if we all work 8hrs a day, why can't we be working for 8k with SELF-RECOGNITION, instead of 2k with Pat on the shoulder from our managers. my wife told me on saturday... everytime a manager pats u on the shoulder, it's to thank u for doing things that make them look good and get them promoted... u just get the pat and a feel-good feeling.

recognition is the most widely used replacement for money. best of cos, is to have both...

laundry ah, hehe... the QQ is becos of the engine capacity lah... not just QQ, cars below a certain CC-range not allowed on the expressways...

powder,

ok. we shall see in a few years time when you hit early 40s and can drive a cab for fun.

see you then. we can have long coffee-breaks together.

Douglas Foo is the Apex-Pal CEO I think. Owner of Sakae Sushi & some others which I can't remember.

Simpleman, meaning if I can lay my hands on a PS3, I can sell it for big bucks here? Hmm... Idea leh...

cecillia,

ps3 is not just a game machine. it is the most technologically advanced machine that one can have in your living room and it is heavily subsidized by sony - sony lose up to US$300 per machine that it is selling.

People queue up to 2 - 3 days in rain for this machine. It is crazy but then when things are in demand and there are not enough supply - you get situation like this.

Sony plan to sell up to 100 million units of PS3 (note that sony has already sold 200 million of PS/PS2 machines).

The only thing that ps3 cannot do for me is to make my morning coffee. If it can do that, it would be perfect.

ok simpleman, it'll be fun actually... good excuse to relak and while some time away awaiting the kids to get off school...
happy.gif

hi laundry, he's a cool dude. never took loans to start his biz... hmm, i like him already. yeah i think i read abt him somewhere...

Laundry ah... i never say tat mah... and u're no auntie. if u wanna drive drive lor... just dun hog me and simpleman can liao... or we split up the zones lor... so we dun snatch each other's customers...
happy.gif

laundry_woes,

Ha ha at last you can see the light. And yes, PS3 is on ebay at more than 3 times its original price. I heard some selling for US$2000 for one that cost US$600.

K lor, I take the north and northeast zone! Ahahah... People talk about cheonging & we wanna drive cabs. All not ambitious one.
happy.gif

People, I got new topic again. Powder caused me to have an epiphany lor. All his fault! Heh. No lah, I was thinking the same thing last weekend. Need to get a life man. Got sudden thot only, go rushing off to forum to post. Basket. Anyway, went clubbing with fren recently. She brought along a guy fren who seemed interested in her. At the end of the nite, we realised the guy has gotten a little tipsy & can't drive home immediately. He insisted that we go back 1st & he'll sit it out & drive home when he's feeling better. I asked my fren to check on him when she got home. She told me this, "dowan lah. I'm not calling him at 3am in the morning. He can one lah. He's the guy leh." Wah lau. I didn't know being a guy has a code of conduct he must adhere to. U better not get drunk. Why must we impose standards/conditions on people around us? Kinda depressing for me when I'm looking for unconditional love leh. I do things for u coz I want to. Not coz I'm expected to. Maybe I'm being too idealistic here. I think this is why I love dogs so much. An inferior being to humans has grasped the idea of unconditional love so much better than us. They have so much love to give and don't ask for much in return. I like to think that my dog loves me enough to overlook the luxuries in life I can't afford for her. So long as we stay together.

laundry_woes,

aiyo. does not mean that dogs can grasp the idea of unconditional love. it is just that that is the only love that the dogs are familiar with.

Unconditional love is easy to say but difficult for a human to really grasp and act accordingly. Definitely between a couple in love - to say that there is truly unconditional love is unrealistic. That is not love but a slave of love. Love between a couple has to be a two way process to sustain - it is not 50-50 but at least there must be a give/take ratio that is different for different couples. As long as both are happy with the raio.

As for you fren, it only shows she is not interested in that guy lah.

enjoying all the topics here. wish i can add on, but swarm with work.

laundry, tonite i give you my long story to your post of 3.39.

Precisely leh. Why must humans make things so complicated? U wanna love, just go love. Why must attach strings & conditions to it? Maybe a better analogy will be parental love. Tat is also given unconditionally. Whether u are an unfilial son, drug addict or some criminal.

There are examples. Even rite here on this forum. It's just rare to reach tat level lor. I dun think it's being a slave of love. Liddat, I'd rather be a slave. But I do agree tat it's a little unrealistic lah. Sigh. *Bubble burst*

laundry_woes, human beings are complicated, otherwise we would not be called human beings.

And lagi worse, love is one of the most complex of human emotions especially the one between a man and woman.

Is unconditional love better for human beings? I am not too sure about that. Humans are complex creatures and we are able to make choices. We evaulate all the time and that is why we have this thing called "conditional love". It is conditional because we can choose. Your dog is different. Your dog probably cannot choose you - whether you are a good or bad owner, he got not much of a choice. The only choice he can have is probably to run away - but then that would be a frightening prospect for a dog. Now when it comes to human beings because we can choose, we will want to have the best and we will also want to take back what we give out. That is if I love you, I would expect you to do this and that. And worse, through centuries of social conditioning, we have certain norms and expectations that are being imposed, maybe not by us but somehow we accepted it along the way.

And it is not true that ALL parental love are unconditional. The majority of them may be unconditional but there are exceptions. And I am not too sure if unconditional love of a parent is a 100% positive thing.

All that being said, it is still possible to love someone, perhaps not 100% unconditionally but to love someone for what they are - good and bad - not 100% but at least enough to ignore the minor deficiencies.

Simple is good leh. Convoluted relationships are too complicated for my puny little brain. :P It is also a choice to keep things simple or complicate matters. I am perfectly happy with majority. It doesn't have to be 100% unconditional love. Nothing is 100% in this world. *starts patching bubble back*
happy.gif

Ya, unconditional love by parents within the norms of society. I'm not talking about those who condone the illegal actions of their children, but those who are willing to forgive and take back repentant children.

i feel it in my fingers, i feel it in my toasts...

well some feel it's toes, some feel it's toasts... isit a feeling or does it have to have a touch of reality...

Of course love is not unconditional. Possibly the only person who could love unconditionally was Mother Teresa. Parents dun love unconditionally. If not there wouldn't be so many threads here talking about parents who threaten not to attend weddings cos of this that and the other. That's why parents consider Obedience a virtue.

Likewise we dun love unconditionally. We love our spouse and frens cos they fit with certain ideals and "requirements" whether we know this consciously or not. But while we dun love unconditionally, we can have Compassion which is a kind of feeling or empathy for others that make us care for our fellow human beings.
