A Place for Singles

Maybe I got jaded too soon. Maybe I started dreaming too early. Rite now, I'm just working to finance my dreams. They have gotten simpler over the years. I have travelled quite a bit, I have tried all sorts of adrenalin-pumping activities, I have experienced life's passage albeit a bit too far (eh, I not enjoying divorce k? who does?). Happy to say that I'm pretty satisfied so far. No regrets. Been thru shit times recently. Now I just wanna enjoy life. Be with my darling doggie, go on occasional cheap trips, catch up with long-lost frens, talk cock sing song on forums etc. No big money never mind. Got money to survive can liao.

My dreams different from Powder's lah. Mine's not money-related. Maybe coz I have never been really poor before. My dreams are for self-satisfaction.

Laundry.. that's what I'm talking about... ;) It's the intangible things in life like more time with loved ones, freedom to do things like that which I appreciate more than money or status. And it's true that in garmen jobs you can have these... not so true in a corporate job where the working hrs are not so defined.

haha laundry woes why you feel they are suaning us?? we not scholars leh.. haha! I worked in pte sector for my previous 2 jobs.. one closed down the other was a SME... challanging environment.. fun, but i needed a break.. so came here to slack.. ok la. for me, my hb can cheong after he comes out from air force, so i continue this stable job... i wanna plan for baby also ma.. if both cheong then CMI how? govt so many privileges for mothers...

powder ya a lot of good scholars break bond and left... there are a lot that move up higher to become perm sec or deputy sec of ministries... although they work with taxpayers money, but you have to give it to them to be able to handle the 'management of singapore'.... no mean feat... especially when singaporeans have the worst personalities in the world... haha! not joking, singaporeans attitude really one of the lousiest... i see to many to feel a bit disgraceful...

Ceci.. now you planning bb ah??? Keke.. thot you dun want... True..for mums garmen has many priviledges. Another thing is, the employer ie garmen, can't fire you for no reason.. unlike in some private co. No one suaning you and Laundry ah... maybe powder huh? I'm all for garmen jobs... but garmen dun want pple like me... too anti-establishment and radical in thinking. I also cannot stand garmen bureaucracy. I think garmen jobs suit scholars best but they are mostly text book and armchair leaders.

this one i see already i buay tahan... the way u put damn funny! "You can't lose your job unless you are superx1000 lousy or committed an offense."
rofl.gif

hey G-gal i think u described my character also... so hapi to know another like-minded... "too anti-establishment and radical in thinking. I also cannot stand garmen bureaucracy."

Ceci, i think i'm fine with it lah, all these doing well lah, moving up to be this be that lah... just tat as a commoner, when i read the Forum replies to certain queries/complaints/feedback... i can't help but figure there's a Template passed down for generations. so i am stingy with my compliments... oh ya, the gahmen is great for working mothers...

Laundry, my dreams definitely not money-related, i'd just say they're money-attained. else, the spiritual attainments are thru frens, forums and family of cos... Balance is key.

no la.. g-gal eventually ma.. not now but since i'm in here, so consider the benefits i wll receive in future lor... of cos i dun think anyone suaning us.. haha! i have my own ambitions also... of cos i won't stick here for the rest of my life, already have plans for own business...

haha! everyday people working here complain also.. abt red tapes bla bla bla, but they still happily working in their jobs for so long... sometimes i dun understand my cols .. haha! for me, i dun face too much of red tapes, not high enough to face all these, and true... they always have the same set of replies to public... what to do? the people in here worked for so many years doing the same thing, answering the same questions, covering their own assess... haha! old school....

I have to agree tat it takes a high level of tolerance to work for the govt. Some of the things I'm doing, I go "are u kidding me??" all the time. Heheh. I'm speaking from the other side of the fence lah. I gave up radical thinking long ago coz u can't move much if your bosses veto your ideas. Sad to say, I've already been brainwashed.

G~gal, I dun quite agree with your comment about our scholars being text book and armchair leaders. Leading a nation leh. No one has the rite answers as to how to do this. We can only learn from the best and adapt it to our small island nation. I think we're doing pretty well. Put it bluntly, sometimes it's all about groping in the dark. Sometimes u succeed, sometimes u dun. When u dun, S'poreans will scream blue murder. CSJ will go overseas to broadcast. Either way, political leaders lose lor.

Powder, even if they are money-related, I dun see anything wrong with it. But ya, money-attained is a better description. Kidding about the suaning lah.

yooohoo G-gal, knock knock... there's a pict of my daughter somewhere in this thread and i am very very attached to my wifey & baby.

erm, did i mention i'm not the Dentist tat is good with teeth? but the Dentist who goes around Denting his things?

Just my personal opinion here, but usually when the garmen creates some policy (eg GST hike), it doesn't solicit feedback or ask the public for suggestions. But then they claim they have channels for public to feedback, only that the public is too "apolitical" or are "apathetic to social issues". I think it's called "Selective Hearing". They create think tanks for those mandarins in the garmen service to come up with solutions..so if this isn't armchair politics, what is it? These scholars certainly dun represent most of us. There are no leaders like those forged in times long gone... like revolutionary Che Guevera, Deng Xiaoping, or even MM Lee.. the new generation of "leaders" are rightly called "Technocrats", managers running Singapore Inc.

Powder... kiddin lah.. this uncle dunno a joke from his bb's diapers liao...
crazy.gif
So got any aunty bring you breakfast beehoon or not??

erm no-way! if i am THIS kind of dentist, my office will be at Taka... everytime after i pluck wisdom tooth, i'll take the cash go buy a bag for my wifey... so many brands u know? Fendi, Tod's Gucci, LV... so convenient! if i pluck just 1 tooth then maybe i go buy a wallet for myself... convenient hor?

Dare to dream big dreams...Powder, are u commission-based? Or have some variable elements tied to yr salary? Other than being yr own boss or a high-flyer, easier to earn more $$ if yr remuneration package has variable components.

would like to cheong too but haven’t found my niche...haha..and time is ticking away! on the other hand, the simple pleasures in life are just as fulfilling.

Ggal, is yr new job giving u the room to pursue yr dream and exercise yr radical thinking?

G-gal, i know i uncle lah... walau dun remind me leh...

hey good comments on the 4:12 post... tat's wat i think too... actually this one very very broad topic... some know, some dun know, some will never know... we largely read ST for the news anyway, and those in the know, know the flavour.

Think I'm lucky coz I've worked with some directors who are actually very in tune with the ground. I was in an industry-based position then. Go out to meet companies all day. Very exciting. But cannot last long coz very tiring too. Clear emails after working hours kind. We have had emails coming in at 3am before and the earliest was at 6am. So we kidded with our director, asking if tat meant we can only sleep from 3 to 6am. Heheh. And I thot govt jobs very buah long long one leh. :P

I haven't done policies tat concerns S'pore as a whole so I can't really comment on the GST hikes lah.

since most of us are using email, the increase in postage rates and international airmail services has not captured much attention. moreover, this issue has been sidelined by the increase in GST.

anyway just fyi,

Singpost net profit for the last FY was S$123.3 million from a revenue of S$413.8 million.
net profit margin of 29.8%!

wonder what's the rationale for raising the charges when Singpost is sitting on a comfortable profit margin.

Laundry.. you with IE Singapore? Actually certain garmen jobs, depending on your position, you can certainly buah long long all day long.. haha.. But if you're in the policy making depts, a bit harder cos the PS will definitely keep an eye... these depts also have the highflying performers like my PSC-scholar fren.

Estrellaq, I haven't found such a job yet...maybe when I become a SAHM or enterpreneur.. haha. Right now, the job serves its purpose... to support hb and me. No espression of radical thoughts lah... but at least my boss is pretty receptive to my ideas.

When you're privatised, your priority is your stakeholders...oops.. salah... SHAREholders. Stakeholders still include the public :P Must differentiate hor. So, if your dividend for this yr is x cents per share, you cannot keep giving the same for next yr mah... must increase profits and dividends mah. So how to do that.. make us pay more.. profit margin increase, dividends increase lor. BTW, same theory for SBS Delgro, and the taxi companies.

for me i have faith in local policies, but not belief... i have faith tat it will be implemented, but do not believe it's the best solution. u have solutions, and u have solutions... i think we dun have very out-of-the-box solutions... but we have 'everyone can think of' solutions... mostly financial solutions.... Fine, Tax, Levy etc... i thought with so much money, our money shuld work for us, but how come we keep working for our money... someone is not making enough money with our money?

i know i very low level thinking... but sometimes high level thinking no point if it's high level within the same Box... it's gonna be financial penalties again... wat's new? honestly... wat great idea has been implemented to make us really so amazed? which does not require us to pay first...?

G~gal, nope! But u getting warmer now. Far cry from the mata job.
happy.gif
Actually tat was my previous job lah. Changed liao. My current one is really those curse-and-swear-at-bureaucracy kind of buah long long job whereby I get to work normal hours and surf forums all day. Eheheh...

Estrella, here we go again! Tat is a pte ltd, GLC but pte ltd. They are all about making profits. Dun send post, use emails all the way lor. Or send pigeons (fei1 ge1 chuan2 shu1).

wah powder... power ah!!

"wat great idea has been implemented to make us really so amazed? which does not require us to pay first...?" That is so true!

Powder, totally agree with the part about no "out of the box" solutions.. and they wonder why there's a brain drain and why some people become quitters...We're trained to synchronise our thoughts in much the same way as bees are in sync with their hives or the queen bee. We are the drones.

Laundry... 2nd guess.. Ministry of Trade and Industry?? Talking about emails... we're sooo dependent on emails that we can't even walk to the next cubicle to talk to our colleagues! My ex-boss use to send me emails that say "Can you pls come over?" and I was sitting so close with only a partition between us :P

Auntie, nope. U ask anymore, I might as well post it here liao. Dowan lah. My dept not very big. Can guess one. Pls go join tat uncle in the corner.

Eheheh... Dec Baby, now we all know u used to work for IE S'pore.

Ceci, again? Wat did he do this time? Need to let him have his own pte cell lah. :P

co could only take the easiest route, that is to squeeze the public to satisfy the shareholders? not an enterprising approach. what about strategic planning, astute management, operational efficiency...? sad that we could only accept whatever is thrown at us as co are largely monopolistic.

talking abt GST, why no one say its good for singapore economy as a whole? ok.. i also complained abt the raise, cos i'm only from middle income family. but the rich have to be taxed... no choice GST has to be increased. to make ourselves more competitive compared to eoconomies worldwide. singapore already has one of the world's lowest GST, and was implemented only like less than 10 years ago? when other countries already charging at least 10%. we have other channels of getting back to $, ERS, NRS or whatever bonus you call it... to offset, you will say not enough, but no one said 'thanks it is appreciated'. when govt give baby bonus, pple say ' you think like that enough ah? bringing up a baby leh!', then how did our parents raised us? with dirt? of cos no la...

above said, i'm not a pro-govt policy person la, those are just tots when i always hear singaporeans complain complain and complain. there are policies which are put up to help, and forgotten faster then it was implemented, but price increase? talk for years...

Laundry...just curious mah... pls dun lump me w Uncle Powder hor...at least my posts are not so chong hei and quite witty.. hahaha...

Seriously I pity CSJ... he's like the only so-called, half-baked revolutionary in SG. Yet he's quite deluded to think that he's political rilings make any sense or any difference. Maybe we can think of some alternative occupations for this man whose penchant for making noise is disturbingly misguided.. haha..

estellalq - EXACTLY!!!! "co could only take the easiest route, that is to squeeze the public to satisfy the shareholders? not an enterprising approach."

Ceci, my hero...
kao_smile.gif

Dec Baby, I never worked for IE S'pore but I worked with them before. U with the Capability Dev' dept previously?

Ok, then we ostracise Uncle Powder.
happy.gif
I seriously support some noise from the opposition lor. But his methods are really indescribable. Washing your own country's dirty linen in public (aka other countries)? *shake head* Dun keep banging your head against the same wall repeatedly lah.

how did i become hero? *blur* ostracise? haha... no la.. not that seriuos.. just voicing opinions and personal POV... not all ppl see the same... bascially i feel we all could have done so much better, if we are more opened up... but really limitations as 'Singapore limited' democracy, protests, ideas bla bla bla limited... has made us into a conservative society, but i believe in future will become better, with younger and 'out of the box' politicians who dare to manage in a different way... it takes time to change...

that guy is a pest la... not to mention he made me busier and lost sleep ... arghhhh

Orh! Everybody! Let's guess where Ceci's working.

I talking about your post at 5.29 lah. There are always 2 sides to a coin. U make sweeping statements, I sweep the leaves back into your backyard lor. Eheheh...

We should have a "A Day in the Life of a political leader" programme. Eh, can make reality TV some more. Appoint u Minister with Deal-with-CSJ portfolio.

you see the current GRCs there are a lot of new faces.. and these people can well be the next gen leaders ... changes can't be seen immediately for sure... you can't revamp a country, i will monitor silently and hop it will be a better for generations after me
happy.gif

Ceci, i'm ok with GST Hike. i'm Not ok with the reasonings (as usual). we like to advertise the good and keep the bad... yes gst lower than so-and-so countries, but how abt other things like PRICES? our major assets kill us and bond us for a life in debt. it's well known, but it's so well known tat it's easily ignored... when we give $500 to pple, FWAH! front page man! u know tat's not even 5% of some of the taxes we pay man...

i just prefer to have a leader tat says, "hey we need to raise GST to help our poorer sporeans. we've discussed and feel this is the best way, if u have a better idea we're open to it, but in the meantime here's how we're gonna do it" and u leave it Open.

but now it's more like "hey we're gonna increase the GST, this is to help the poorer sporeans becos X is Y, Y is M.... this is the way Forward, this solution best liao, cannot beat, so not that we dun wanna ask u but we can't be wrong. u can feedback of cos, thru XXX, YYY".

CSJ - unless we've read articles OTHER THAN local ones, our opinion of him may not be as accurate as we think.
