let me be controversial here...
i find tat the Sunny was successful based on the concept of "everything also i want", including cheap. very singaporean, tat's why it sold so well in the mid 90s. it was the size of a 2-litre (back then), had cup-holders and a pretty nice design... in Most cases, it represents a certain mindset uniquely sporean. it doesn't help tat sporeans are a funny lot, they like to pull other pple in to buy the same product... (maybe from a sense of insecurity, the way we illegal park with more confidence when we see a whole stretch of car illegal parked).
from the profile of the car, i derive the profile of the buyer... therefore i have my theory on why these fellas are so afraid to step on the gas (actually this car is a guzzler after the 1st year). and becos of the Herd mentality behind the pple who buy this particular car, it is also unsurprising tat after paying 'so much' (or so little?), they naturally wanna drive on the extreme right lane 'in style'...
ok this part i abit unfair, but what's with driving on the right side of the road at the speed limit of 80/90 kmh thinking tat u have the right to hog??? the extreme right lane is meant for overtaking, and tat means we shuld give way to Any car tat is faster than us, whether they're driving 100 or 200. it's not relative to us driving at speed limit.
But of cos being spore, the license is so easily obtained... we're the country of passing tests... even for passing driving tests - there's formulas and stickers on instructors' cars to assist with parallel parking etc. when i learnt my driving, i never drove slower than 60kmh from the 1st lesson. i was deaf to the instructor and told him tat as long as i am not speeding nor hogging, i was part of the traffic and there's nothing wrong. he slept most of the time, hehe.
estellalq - in spore, the herd pple all buy the most popular car becos there's safety in numbers. but when u try to sell your hugely popular car, u realise tat the market is flooded with it and thus u can't get a proper price for it... but when u first bought, pple tell u this car got high resale.
next time u;re free, observe the Cefiro drivers, and see if i;m right about my observation... tat they are Sunny drivers who got a little more bonus the year before. same driving style, same hogging habits... buy a freakin V6 and drive it like a 1 litre car... for me it's simple, wanna save petrol - dun buy car.
