(2016) 2016 brides

anyone has attended alcohol-free wedding banquet before?
i am very afraid of my relatives turning rowdy after drinking due to past experience so i m considering this extreme option

I've not attended an alcohol-free wedding before. but I'm sure guests wouldn't mind :) since we're there to celebrate your wedding and not there simply for the drinks, ahah.

alternatively can the hotel coordinator help to limit the drinks to that particular relative/table?

i think this is a better idea, than having an alcohol-free wedding :) if a guest doesnt understand the background of your intent, they mightwonder why no drinks and think it's cause of cost savnigs etc..i think doesn't look very nice in that way... cause the banquet is after all, more for the face for the elders?

I will be doing a non alcohol wedding lunch Cos mine's a vegetarian banquet. I think it will be good to let the guests know beforehand but even if they're unhappy I don't mind because seems they're nt to share e joy.

Any BTBs willing to share the basic OTR package for rico-a-mona? Is the standard inclusive of 2 gowns, 1 kua and 1 suit (for guys)? That means photoshoot gowns I got to pay extra if I don't wanna be wearing the same gowns?

Once you select the gowns you can't change them afterwards right? Cos i'm thinking if I shld go to BS to sign up this year or shld I wait to next year when new designs come out.

I duno as I've not picked mine yet, but I've heard of boutiques charging if you change the dress.

I think if u really like the design u can book it in advance. Esp if design is quite timeless and classic - don't think there would be much diff in the newer designs.

I'm supposed to be able to choose from all gowns, no restrictions. They said it's their standard practice but better to get it written down (I forgot )

Hello! That's 6 more mths to go! :)
I'm currently on pinterest for solemnisation decor.. haha..

Yea.. 6 months more to go. But to me 6 months is too short and have been busy with work so that makes it even shorter. Plus it's already the middle of the year so I feel time passes too fast this year. Haha.. Maybe I'll place my Love & Co bear with swing on the table for my solemnisation deco. But may have to take some inspiration from pinterest or other websites.

no one getting married on 30th april? cause when I was searching for the venue ..all the place that I called up was fully booked. hahaha
and damn stress.. house ready need to renovate... buy furnitures ... and need to prepare wedding stuff ... $$$$$$$$$$$$ not enough :(((((

I know the feeling.. my house is almost ready. Currently looking for IDs and wedding is in Jan. Fiance and myself not going on a honeymoon any time soon after the wedding..

Yup :) you should start looking into B soon :) I'm a may btb.. Booked my Venue means BS.. Going to confirm my rings soon, since it's gonna take about 3 months to make, and resizing Etc

(: Yea go cfm your rings soon. If you're going to use them for your photoshoot. I can't wait for mine.. A bit kiasu, I might have bought mine too early. But it should be ready in Sep 2015.

Ahh good point, i totally neglected the point that we might need them for our photoshoot! Perhaps it's time to take a look for the wedding bands :)

Care to share where you got your rings?

Got our wedding bands from Love & Co at Plaza Singapura. My engagement ring is from there too. We're bringing our wedding bands to Korea in Nov for our wedding shoot.

I'm looking for wedding banquet venue (hotel) held in Sept 2016/ min 20 pax, high ceiling, straight march in. Please kindly recommend if any.

You can go check out these hotels they have high ceiling and straight march in.
  • Movenpick Heritage Hotel (max tables: 17 if remember correctly)
  • Orchard Hotel (max tables can go up to 60 I think or more)

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I have received bad reviews on orchard hotel so I don't think I will get them.

Oh ok. No problem.
Maybe you want to try Mandarin Oriental? If you don't mind, their ballroom is a fan shape but the food is awesome. I'm not sure about the other ballrooms.

Hi, may I ask do people usually wear the weding bands for pre wedding shoot even though the shoot is before ROM?

Hmm I'm not sure if they usually wear.. but have to see if you're pantang or not. If no then you can use it for your shoot if not then no need.. Depends on you're preference.

ooh im not really superstitious but what's the "pang tang" reason behind wearing it for photoshoot?

Thanks. Is for 20 tables =) Any review for MBS, Fort Canning, Fairmont and Shangri-la Sentosa ? Heard alot of bad review on MBS though.

MBS reminds me of corporate events, haha. due to personal experience.

shangri-la rasa sentosa has two ballrooms, 1 can do a straight march-in. but i don't rem the ballroom having high ceiling.

the ballroom with the china sea view is not pillar-less definitely.. though maybe 20 tables can possibly be placed nicely within the stage and pillars so that there will be no obstructions. but i find the ballroom feeling abit 'worn' personally.

For MBS - I've read quite afew bad reviews too. But i cant comment much as i've not attended one there personally. Going to attend my friend's there next Feb though! :)

For Fairmont/Swissotel - I would say dont expect too much from the food as they are being catered. The ballrooms are nice thought but be reminded they are convention halls afterall. I was pretty impressed with the ballroom the previous time i went for site viewing. but was quite turn off with the idea of shared cocktail area. There will be a huge ballroom which will be divided into 3 smaller ballrooms - the cocktail area will be in front of the ballroom and only separated by dividers. Kind of messy if all 3 ballrooms are occupied i feel.

You might want to check out Crowne Plaza, ParkRoyal at Pickering Street, ParkRoyal on Beach Road (beautiful ballroom, newly refurbished).
Perhaps you can consider what's of the most importance to you & your fiance. Food? Or Ballroom deco?
If it's food, try to go for hotels with their in house restaurants. :)

I've never heard of the pang tang regarding the rings... Anyone can share?

The ones i've heard are
1) Dont attend any white/red events within 3 months of your wedding
2) if your bridesmaid is pregnant, she cant be your bridesmaid anymore. Because 2 happiness might clash

Actually all these are just passed on by the older generations. So just do to please the elders in the family :)

I went to see fort canning.. Their ballrooms ceiling is not very high and there are pillars at the side of the room which may block the view if you have a straight March in.

I have attended a wedding at park royal pickering. I find their ballroom very pretty, with high ceiling, pillarless and its a straight march-in. Food wise I think its still not bad:)

20 table,s high ceiling, straight march in.. sounds like Crowne.. that's where I am doing mine too :) May next year. Food is from imperial treasure, so i think should be of reasonably good standard.. their ballroom and reception holding area is really pretty. best part is they only have 1 ballroom.. so you dont have to worry that people might get confused. if you are thinking of doing your solemnisation there, the rooms are really pretty too :)

i had an event in shangri-la rasa, the ceiling is not like very high, but reasonable height. can fit 20 tables, but yes, there are pillars. if you ask me, i think hotels with the view and glass like shangri-la rasa and royal pickering, looks better for day wedding, so you can see the view..when it's night, your photographer's flash might have a lot of shot relfections off the glass..

another place that is really beautiful is CHIJMEs. but nicer for day wedding, when the light penetrates through the stained glass of the hall. looks really beautiful on photos.. but! no overnight hotel room, rental is pretty expensive, the changing room is their back room where the AV equipment is, and i heard the sound system is really bad.. have to bring in your own sound system, which means more costs.. ;p

can u share your ring designs? :) i heard fairy's inc tends to be more pricey than jannpaul and ling's jewellry?

Fairys inc is definitely more pricey than JP. But I think their designs are really nice and elegant. Very tasteful. I went for something classic yet alittle unusual. ImageUploadedByForum1438178949.236995.jpg

It's the one in the middle! But it will be in champagne with rose gold sides.

JP has something similar - this design is actually classic Art Deco but JP workmanship is much rougher.

No pic of my guy's ring - it's pretty classic but we both feel it's more tasteful (we duno why given that it's quite simple in design) than other shops like JP, goldheart etc. he made his decision immd.

Didn't make it to ling jewellery - it was going to be the next stop after fairys inc but we already liked the designs there. Engagement rings r very pretty but it's kinda too late for me.

Fairys inc does customization too but the design I got is an existing design. they have more vintagy designs which I like but I was concerned that they might not be as "nai kan" after some years.

Definitely worth a look but yeah, more pricy. My ring is 2.2k (infinity, size 17 )

lovely!! the middle one is pretty unique yet, how should I put it?.. simple enough for daily wear too (impt to be simple since I work at a boring office haha)

do u mind sharing the specs and price of your ring? :)

and I get what u mean about ur guy's ring.. we have seen super similar designs for my boyf's ring at different jewellery stores and somehow all feels different to him. perhaps of the material quality (thou all 18k gold) or workmanship or lighting.. or a combination of all.. haha..

@tulipkiss - my feelings exactly! Heeh. And I updated my post, should ans your qns. Can't rem specs of the diamonds but they are small and shouldn't matter that much. I do recall fairys inc saying they will put quality diamonds of at least a certain grade.

Frankly I felt most of the guys rings I saw are not interesting. But I really like the one he chose too.

You may consider Holiday Inn Orchard, they have relatively high ceiling and also they have a ballroom that holds a min 15 tables to max 22 tables. :) hope that helps.

Yes but for that size the pillars are all at the corners and they have livefeed which are great for my guests, they dont have to turn around (if they are sitting back facing) awkwardly just to see us on the stage.

the area after the pillars have lower ceiling also. It used to be smaller function rooms when my brother got married.. now they combine into 1 ballroom.

I think that one is a bigger ballroom. The one I saw was a smaller one with maximum 22 tables. The ceiling height is the same throughout.

wanted fairmont but the date i wanted clashed with their corporate event.. wan't very pleased with their customer service either.

Going ahead with MBS. Had a good time for D&D :) Decent perks and price, good customer service and allow for small wedding (25 tables) :)

Ah. I thought you were referring to the bigger ballroom.. but I think the place is alright only. I think there are quite a few other nicer places with min 20 tables. :)

Hello all! Just wanna ask how long does it take for the hotel banquet coordinator to come back with the drafted contract usually?

Hi all, I'm a 2016 Dec BTB!

Will be doing a wedding lunch. Gate crashing and solemnization all on the same day too.

Anyone doing the same and has a rough guide on how the flow of AD should be like?

Hello all! Just wanna ask how long does it take for the hotel banquet coordinator to come back with the drafted contract usually?

Hi Tulipkiss, mine was kinda fast for the drafted contract. Once I confirmed with them, 1 week later, hotel banquet coordinator already sent it to me.

Mine told me 3-4 weeks. It's not so fast after you book it. And it really came around that period.

Ohh I had the impression that it's a std template that can be done within 3 weekdays, so became a little worried after waiting for one week. haha..
Anyway, the coordinator texted us that it will be drafted soon! :)

I guess it depends on when and where you make the booking. Mine was done at the hotel wedding show.. so they had to do many contracts at the same time.. that's why it took 3-4 weeks. But it's good to look through and then let your coordinator know what other changes you want and whether it can put in.
