(2011/01) Jan 2011 BTB

Candysiew & DL> Yes have to cut the roasted pig on AD when couple goes back to bride's parents home for tea ceremony. I saw wad happened during my sis wedding last yr.

My dad cut the roasted pig & distribute to all my relatives who were at my hse tt day. Oh ya, just a kind note: Do you know how come the pig can stay that shape for so long? Cos there is a thick pc of wire inside that holds the shape of the pig. So ask your dad to prepare a chopper and a hammer to cut the pig. I think the head and the backside of the pig has to be returned to the groom family & covered it under a pc of cloth (forget wad colour is the cloth already).

I still remember after all the guests left, im the one incharge of cleaning up the kitchen. Forget how many times i mopped the floor cos it is sooooo oily!

Just to add on to what Binnie had said. This is how my cousin did it. We are cantonese, btw.

He brought the pig to the bride's house in the AD morning. The bride's uncle cut off the head and hind, leaving the middle portion. Then the groom took the head and hind back to his house. I think the pig was covered with a red/pink cloth or paper.

Traditionally the pig is supposed to accompany the bride when she returns to her home after 3 days. From the size of the pig, the whole village can see how pleased the groom's family is with the bride. Present days, it's only for show

My dad loves to cut things up, he will grab the chance to chop up the pig on my AD heee.

A little off topic. I have tried many mattress past few days. I have shortlisted a few, but while they feel good now, i'm concerned about the long term.

Give a shout if you like the mattress you have been using

ohh thanks for all the pig cutting tips! I don't think that will be necessary for my family - my dad will accept the pig, and that's it! but all very interesting.

Lish: are you moving to a new place?

I am very particular about mattresses as I suffer from backaches.. we used to have a crappy IKEA king-size mattress, cheap, but I had backaches constantly. it partially thanks to the pillow I had.

anyway I bought a Sealy king-size mattress that feels heavenly!! I love it. cost a pretty penny but worth it. but, do shop around, though. there are SO many variety, even within the same brand. just keep trying. lie down on as many as possible, and of course get your husband too. try to lie down side by side, see if it holds your weight. see if you both like it. if I had the money, I'd probably buy a tempur, but it's sooooo expensive. madness..

Lish> I haven bought n no experience 2 buy mattress b4. But heard my colleague bought 1 from court recently, she finds it not bad.

Binnie, Lish, DL> Thanks for all your comment regarding sucking pig. I wish to have one, but hav difficulty... My parent's house in m'sia, aihz...

DL, Candysiew, SIL is very kind to lend her place for us to stay until our new house is ready.

I'm thinking king size too haha.. I'm going to check out IMM and Tradehub next.

wow so much info on the roasted pig. I'm not having roasted pig on my AD instead my parents requested for a raw pig leg. anybody having the same as me??

I bought a king size simmons mattress during the GSS. They will only arrive in mid Jan =)

Candysiew, Yup raw pig leg will be brought over from the groom place to my place in the morning when he come over to fetch me on the AD. My parents have also requested for the can pig leg and it will be for GDL =)

Sorry wanna change the subject a litte. Anyone ordering buffet catering on AD morning?? I was told by my parents and PIL tat we have to order for them, relatives and our jie mei and xiongdi to eat cos it will be a long day and they will surely go hungry. As mine will be catering for a small group of pax, wanna ask u all have u heard of http://www.sengkangcatering.com.sg/minibuffet.htm and http://www.casserole.com.sg/index.htm ??

Have anybody tried their food before? Any reviews on them??

Binnie, Oic. But they are slightly higher in price and their minimum order is quite high. I only need like about 15 to 20 pax at my PIL and own place each.

Candy, The kckfood minimum order is quite high. Hmmm it seems hard to find low minimum order and cheap catering =(

Happiness, You are a hokkien too?? =)

Lish, Yup those kind. No la my mum is not really a great cook >.< Its just a tradition i think. I'm not sure what they are going to do with it after that.

Hi gals, my wedding banquet is on 9th Jan 2011. Seems like i am the slowest in preparaton bcoz we are just about to send out the invitation this weekend!

There is a problem that i would like to hear some opinion though. Hubby and i are trying to make the wedding simple coz we already had ROM 1.5 years ago. Initially we were planning not to have customary but think the parents won't be happy and his grandma is also still ard. So we decided to throw a banquet.

But i am thinking, during the banquet, usually the MC will get the elderly at home, bride, groom, parents to go on stage then everyone stand there to yum seng to the guests. I REALLY WANT TO DO AWAY WITH THIS. I just want the 2 of us there ,and the MC get everyone to toast in the form of "cheers". BUt i am worried that the elderly will say we don't respect them.

However, i feel like i already give in a lot during the preparation. Initially we want a simple guo da li and a simple ceremony in the morning. Both my parents and PIL are actually ok with that. Then other relatives (elder uncles and aunties from my hubby side) say this and that until we add in a lot of ding-dong processes in between already. Now i feel like the wedding ceremony is not for celebrate our marriage anymore. It's like putting up a performance to make the relatives happy

SO you gals think i can do away with the yumseng with relatives on stage?

Hi K.K,

You're having the banquet on the same day as me. I know how you feel... after awhile it does feel more like a show to please others than a celebration of the couple's union isn't it? My heart goes out to you...

For me I have to remind myself to ask that question of "Do I want to make others happy at the expense of my own happiness or do I want to be happy on my special day?" and I choose to be happy so I'm going to do what is within reason for me and for them. Family will always be family and I personally feel no matter what you do, there will always be someone that will nickpick or have something negative to say anyway so if I can't please everyone, at least I can please myself and not do anything that I don't want to do.

I hope I am making sense to you... I'm not having the yum seng for the banquet. PM me if you need a space to vent... I'll be quite happy to lend a listening ear... hugz :

Hi, actually im thinkin to do away the yum seng but then thinking is like once in a lifetime.. so just make it simple short n sweet..

s for me now, is the tables which is making us headache...

first said anything 3tables will do, den now wan to add on 1 table as we already make the necessary seating arrangment n theres no other vacant tables left n now we are left to use the reserve table if really really that 10pax is coming
argh
when things are coming, den said this n that
dun understand y the elderly dun make it confirmation n always like to do last min thing..

KopiKopi (kopipeng) > If you also kind of 'dont mind', then maybe have a short & sweet yum seng, esp you hubby's elder uncle/aunt will say this say tat tat kind.

How's everyone doing???

I'm down to my last 3weeks+ to the wedding on NYD.. with a ton of things not done yet. :/
Anyone got a sample list of duties for the bridal party and can share it with me.

Yeah 31days to go for BTB on 15Jan.. Currently preparing my montage & guestbook.. Wkend will go Chinatown and look for guo da li stuffs..

- Wedding invitations all sent!
- Angbao prepared, just have to changed abit more money for the gatecrash..
- Actual day itinery planned & duties for the brothers arranged & informed
- Seating arrangement (still planning)
- Honeymoon itinery (still planning)

Jiayou everyone..
happy.gif
Let's all enjoy this preparation process.. Yeah!

Oh ya, i have a question.. Do you think it's better to prepare all $10 notes for gatecrash as it's easier for the jeimeis to split or just give them in denominations of $50 better?

And how much will you all set aside for gatecrash alone??
