(2011/01) Jan 2011 BTB

My wedding's on 01 Jan. For friends, we'll be sending out on 01 Dec. Agree with Denise, better to send out earlier given that the whole december will be busy for singpost.

Do you guys rsvp first before sending the cards, or send cards then rsvp?

I didn't do a formal 'save the date' (email or card etc). I only smsed my family and friends, and some, email to ask them to save the date. My mum handled the extended relatives. So when I send out the invites, it should be almost a 100% attendance. But of course I'll still ask on the invitation to RSVP, just to double confirm!

Are you all brides using the hotel or restaurant-provided wedding invitation cards, or are you getting them separately? I am so, so in love with letterpress wedding invitations.. they are SO beautiful!! though they do cost quite a pretty penny, I'm definitely getting letterpress ones - and from the US too.

I hv already RSVP all my friends via fb/SMS so only left w the relatives side.. Only a few tentative.. Others all cfm liao.

Think friends cards we will mostly do by hand since we will be organising Christmas party or gathering at our hse.. Relative wise sure by hand de..

Yes correct it's a bit risky to send out late December because of the festive period. Unlike other postal service, sometimes SingPost does get overwhelmed by the large number of mail and the tendency to lose your post is higher. That is why even for Christmas cards, they always encourage people to send them out early, even in late November if need be, that is to ensure that your recipient will receive them. You can give SingPost a call for their advice if you're worried. For me, I will send out in November to also serve as a reminder just in case anyone is making plans for Jan. Plus my Save the Date are fridge magnets so I would want them to stick it up longer and admire it ;P hehehe

hi DL, my banquet will be at the former Westin.. and yea. 8 Jan is not a very popular date. But it’s okay..dates does not really matter IMHO..if it’s a super hot date, then..few things gonna book in advance! Hehe
I’m getting the invitation cards from the hotel..doesnt want to source & pay extra bcos I still gotta print out inserts for church solemnization.
hmm..i do have enough space to accommodate them..guess I’ll just ask a few if they’re keen.. =/ getting the guest list done seems to be the hardest thing! I hate it..

cupcakes: you're not using invitations at all? heh very green of you! but I really can't resist letterpress wedding invitations.. letterpress is too gorgeous. check out bellafigura.com
*drool!

are you getting married to an Italiano? :D hehe
I'll be giving out jordan almonds in a white box and decorating the box myself. just a small gesture. but I can afford the time to do that as I don't have a big wedding. I like the meaning behind sugar-coated almonds..

you can check out wedding favours singapore websites/distributors etc. there are many that sell 'rubbishy' stuff like.. erm, ugly key chains and even uglier chopsticks (what's the point??), but there are also some that sell boxes of different shapes, designs, colours, some offer stickers of your monograms. you can look through all those they have to offer. I thought I found some boxes that seemed cheap till I found another website that was listing it much cheaper!! really quite a lot of things you can get.

I always think food stuff is a good wedding favour. it's 'green', and not something that a guest may not like and will have no choice but to throw it away. so, sweets, chocolates, etc. then again, I also like it if it's something more special cos I've got chocolate wedding favours before, and I didn't even remember to take it home with me after the wedding dinner!

caroline: yes I like it when it's NOT a hot wedding date!

ohh! I attended my best friend's wedding recently and I really like his wedding favours. it was hard candy, with both their names in the candy. ehhh I don't know how to describe it, but you know those candy shops where they make the candy in front of you, eg at united square (novena)? think they can custom make candy, and so my friend had his name made into one of the candy (very tiny). it's very cute, and the candy was yummy, and they got it bagged in clear cellophane bags with a paper lining it with their names and wedding date printed on it. very nice!

DL : I know those hard candy. It's very common here. I remember eating them when I was in primary school. In the past it was very rare. I would just eat one a day. A bottle lasted me months! You can find it here http://www.suga.com.au/

I'm not marrying Italiano. Just an Aussie angmo that grew up in a farm. Have you ever watched the program "The Farmer Wants A Wife"? I'm the wife. hahaha.

Yah many of the wedding favours are quite rubbish and some people don't even take away with them. I want to handmake something meaningful.

If I had my oven in Spore I'll be baking all sorts of cookies and cupcakes for my guest as favours...

hey DL, got a pic? i like how the packaging sounds. those candies usually come in a little tiny jar which are super expensive... hey and can share that website that you found for the different packagings? i'm doing a dessert bar so i thot it be nice if the guests could pack stuff they want. i was gonna go with brown paper bags haha. oh, i'm trying to be green too so i printed my invites on recycled paper. haha hope that counts.

DL: yup I'm ordering the candies for my table gift.. As I would hav ard 42tables, we ordered ard 13kg of candies in total. Plus the glass jar, each cost/pax is ard $2 lo. Reasonable la. The design of the candies we getting 2 diff design. One is with our name, the other one is the double happiness word.

Cupcakes: I actually got my glass jar from sticky, my candy supplier. They charge $1 for each. I saw the exact same jar selling ar daiso, but for 2bucks each. U might want to contCt the to see if they can quote u cheaper price. If not, I have 1 fr website but it's not the same type of jar. If I rememer correctly, the wedding gift flavour supplier is call idoido.

Binnie : Will Sticky do the candy customization and put them in the glass jar for you and its about $2 per pax for the candy and jar? Will they be sticking their labels on the jars or are you able to get them to give it to you without the labels so that you can stick you own on it?

Cupcakes: yes after they finish w our candies they will pack in the jars for us. We will be getting our own stickers instead then we stick it ourselves. Correct, candy plus jar abt $2 each pax.

can't seem to find a picture on my friend's wedding favour sweets. both of them haven't posted their pictures up on FB yet.. or maybe they're not going to.
try martha steward or something.. there are ideas on how to package those sweets in cellophane bags. and, I'd think that cellophane bags are more environmentally friendly than glass jars! cheaper too. or, you can try waxy paper envelopes? quite pretty!

these are some wedding favours sites that I came across. some are 100% good taste type, but I find a little more expensive, and some offer a wide range of favours and it's up to you to choose the nice favours/packaging. have fun!

Found it! Cupcakes, this is one of the supplier for wedding flavours who can provide jars for your candies. They will be cheaper if you buy in bulk. The price and measurement of the jars are inside.

If you want to take a look at STICKY candies as wedding flavours, you can visit STICKY fb to have a look or STICKY website for more pictures.

LD: Thanks for sharing the links! I love the ideas from domeafavour! It's very me and its things I can do myself. Head is full of ideas now! I'm going experiment tomorrow!

Binnie: Thanks. Yeah I might emailed Sticky. Will see how my day of experiment goes tomorrow...

hey cupcakes, thanks for the website, it is major major cool! i'm gonna go crazy and have mighty fun right now! =P the stickers idea is kinda good. since we already have our own customised logo for the wedding, probably can use that... we are currently using them only for the invitation envelopes in place of wax seal because those are out of our budget =(

hi Binnie where can I find Sticky pls? and do you know if they have a min. order cuz I am only looking at about like maybe 25 bottles... one for each table.

DL~ i think then maybe i will go with brown paper bags then, cuz its definitely more recyclable than cellophane bags! same with waxy paper envelopes. cuz anything with wax or plastic is still harmful to the environment in the end. so yea... i think i will stick to good old paper! haha

thanks for the links, i'll go check them out. Divine Favorz is already one of my current vendors...

ooooooooh i have just fallen in love with favoratelier! what a wonderful gift for all at the VIP tables plus the groomsmen and bridesmaids. excited!

DL: So sorry, I typed your name wrongly as LD above.

krazi: The websites are so good right! I think I've decided on what to do. I'll get assorted tea flowers and pack them in little brown paper bags with a thank you card inside and tie them down with ribbons and stick the personalized stickers at the front. So it would be a mix of the two ideas below. Brown paper bags have that rustic look and I think it would go great with the garden wedding theme. It would be cheaper than getting the lollies from sticky also. *yay*

cupcakes~ yea sounds really great. i think i'm really starting to think about giving tea. it's so simple, classy, healthy, yet beautiful and sweet at the same time, and there's always something romantic about tea. especially the rose tea buds are so gorgeous! i love the jars of love especially because it shows of the rose tea so well!

actually if you're doing the jars of love, don't pack them in the brown paper bag leh! they are so beautiful on their own, no? haha. also then you can save on ribbons cuz those can be expensive too. maybe you can just make your own personalised stickers and then paste it onto the jars of love?

yea the lollies are really expensive huh! am having second thoughts too... since they have such a huge min. quantity. sigh.

krazi: I'm just buying the loose tea and packing them in the paper bags rather than getting the jars. Yes the rose buds are very beautiful on their own but 100 paper bags only $2.50 so it will be much cheaper than buying glass jars. Thus saving me more money... *evil laughter. Maybe I'll use white paper bags instead. They are more see through so you'll still be able to see abit of the tea flowers. I've tried to make one just now and it looks quite good.

there is a shop called emperor love that sells really cute packaging but theirs is more chinese tea. i saw it on the Wedding 101 shows on xinmsn. it's a ch 8 magazine show on everything bridal. cuz my BS is featured on it so i know of it haha.

the other would be tangs, they have very lovely rose tea buds there. i think its $14 for 100g?? really expensive. i think you're better off getting it in melb haha.

dear all, i need some help. I once read about a company which is able to print those wedding albums. Does anyone have the contact of the company?

krazi: there are many shops here selling loose tea leaves! I believe even takashimaya B1 has a shop that does that. it's not that difficult to spot one. have fun

as for those considering candy wedding favours, check out today's Sunday Times - they have a list of shops which can personalise hard candy with your names etc on the candy itself. Pg 24 or 26 I think.

Binnie~ im doing my own using photobooksingapore. one side picture one side for people to write. they are having 40% off in Sep only. so i gotta hurry! hahaha. i just finished editing 155 photos o.0

Wow! U gals are fast!!! Haven logged in as often now! Good to see the thread moving so fast!! I'm a 15 Jan bride too! Jus had my PS on fri and selected my photos yest! My wedding favor will be homemade Eurasian sugee cake! Supposed to source for packaging but my fiance's uncle said he would settle everything including invites, church mass booklet and other stationery stuffs! We jus have to approve the artwork. So not sure wat to do now other than finalizing guest lust.

Hi DL, sugee cake is a cake made from semolina. Its an eurasian tradition to serve it during weddings or festivals such as Xmas. Therefore we are giving it away as favors.

Krazi, typo as using my iPhone to reply

Hey ladies, i finished my gown selection on Sunday. It's a 5 hour marathon..phew.

Is anyone doing Guo Da Li? I'm thinking where to get the cakes. Choz is highly recommended in another forum and their cupcakes look really cute. Do you think $14.80/box is reasonable or expensive? Any other bakeries to recommend?

Binnie, my guestbook provided by hotel

Cupcakes I'm so happy for you! My fren also bought her evening gown from US cuz she didn't like her BS ones. The dress was selling close to $1k here in sg but she bought it online for $600+ including DHL. Anything for the bride to be happy right haha. I'm glad yours was such a good deal and turned out wonderful

Lish, it was my second PS on my own, casual one with Oh Dear! Photography.

Hi Lish

Yes my fiance's family have been very supporting in every aspects. I too feel very fortunate!

Hope it is the same for all of u here

By the way back to the wine discussion, NTUC has weekly offers on certain brand which goes for abt 11-12 per bottle. Some are actually pretty good. The last one in offer was La Manda selling at only 11.50 per bottle. Both white and red were easy to drink. Maybe u gals can buy 1 bottle to try. If good can stock up!! I probably do the same cos one of my friend did the same for his wedding. Of cos we intend to serve better wines for VIP table.

Lish: If you haven't gotten your evening or tea dresses, your can buy it from there. I was thinking a red dress would be pretty cool to tango in.

krazi: Yah, anything that will help save money will make a bride very happy!

cupcakes:
wow!! where'd you get your dress from for only $100?
I know there are many good online sites, like bloomingdales, bcbg, bluefly, etc that sells evening or cocktail gowns at super prices. a BCBG dress in singapore that cost S$700 only cost US$300 or less. as for shipping, one can always use vpost or ask a friend to help.

I'm getting my wedding dress from a US online shop. hmmm

cupcakes: where you getting your wedding dress from?

ohhh. nice design! what's the colour of your evening dress?

heh yeah I know. it's just that my wedding dress is from J Crew. it isn't that expensive on J Crew anyway so I'll just it directly from the 'source'.

hi Jasmin, do you mean those coffee tbl book? if so, there's a shop at level one ,Peninsula Plaza have such service. other than that, you can look at the below links.

hi binnie, i'm scrapping my own guestbook..but..i spent quite alot on it.. 200+ on the materials.. and got addicted to buy & buy.the materials are ex! it's fun but you need alot of ideas for the layout..i've only done up 2 pages so far..haha!

cupscakes, your dress is pretty! similar to my sis! she's located in SHA & she designed & tailor-made it there too!really cheap!

Hi caroline, I think I will be scrapping my own guestbook too. Actually not really a book, but it will be like a brochure type, folding ones. I already have scrapbooking materials at home, just have to confirm on the layout then I can start doing it le. Yup the materials are expensive, so have to control yourself lo.. hehe!

Cupcakes, elegant dress *thumbs up*

Are you going to waltz? That's a great idea. I wish I can do that too, but htb won't appreciate me dragging him to dance lessons haha.

Rachel, are the offers available at NTUC outlets? When I'm at the AMK Hub NTUC Xtra, I don't usually see their wine promoters around. $11 is a good deal though.
