(2016) 2016 brides

@caren_c my AD is 19 Nov 2016 :) think I'm a kiasu bride to prepare so early. Just wondering, is $10k too high a budget for a wedding excluding banquet? Considering AD photography, AD videography, pre-wed photography, gown and suit rentals, make up for AD and pre-wed.

Tried to scale it down but seems impossible.. Doing ala carte by the way.
10k inclusive of everything except banquet? Hmm in my opinion quite tough.. Because there is angpows, guo da li, parents gown/suit, parents make up, wedding bands, sisters clothes just to name a few..

@caren_c I have spent ard $7k on pre wed PS (including topping up 8pics) and AD bridal, AD photographer and wedding bands if u need a gauge. Bridal car we will be using a friend's car so foc. So given a balance of $3k of ur est. $10k budget, still hv some room to get guo da li stuff, a budget videographer and angbao buffer i think. Maybe exceed a bit at most. Really depends on what u want. If going for the best in everything, of cos will be hard.

See what if the one or 2 items you believe it is worth paying more for and adjust the budget for the rest accordingly. Some things esp decor items if u need can get fr Taobao or borrow fr friends, guodali maybe fr JB.

Anyway it's impt to set a budget and try to stick to it. I actually did a budget for almost every main item we need for wedding before embarking on our search for vendors. Rem to update ur expenditure to ensure we haven not exceed the budget we hv set and make use of credit card cashback. :)

Hi @DJ2016, thanks! :) I'll tag @effie05 here. She will be interested in whether 10K budget will be sufficient or not :)
Yes i agree about the part of setting up a budget and sticking with it too! It's so important, because if at every item we decide to just 'spend a little more', at the end of the whole wedding, we will realised we are spending 'alot more'!

Hi Effie!

My wedding is 12 Nov 2016, one week before you! And I've only booked venue and did nothing else. You're really fast!
Hello! As long as you booked your venue, you can somewhat sit back to relax a tiny bit!
Just make sure to look around for your BS and also JP (if youre having your solemnisaton externally). :)

Hi all BTBs, i have been reading this chat for quite sometime. I am also a 2016 bride.

I am just wondering if there is a need for AD videography? I was initially keen to get one but i realised that an AD videography cost about 1.5k :( so still considering.....but i really wish to have a video of the gatecrashing since i wont be able to see it on the actual day.

Hi @meowfy , in my honest opinions, if you're having a gatecrash, it'll be nice to have an ad videography so they can capture the morning ceremony down.

But that said, it's alright not to engage one. you can always get a good friend/family member/one of the bridesmaid to do the recording of the gatecrash for you. :)

Nowadays, some brides will get someone to do the recording (facetime/skype/etc) and they can view it 'live' while they are waiting for the groom.

My friend helped her friend do the gate crashing video to play for dinner.. lol u can find a friend to help out?

Pastors are more than willing to officiate ur wedding outside a church venue. You'd need to first check if your pastor is a licensed JP to be able to officiate your wedding.
I'm having a christian wedding at my banquet venue, not at a church, due to logistical reasons. PM me if u wanna know more. :)

Yes, Pastors can officiate your wedding outside a church venue. Hotel Function Rooms / Ballrooms can be one of the places. If the pastor is not a licensed JP, your JP may conduct his solemnisation before or after your 'church ceremony' so that you both will be legally husband and wife. And thereafter you both may receive God's blessings as a couple.

Hope this helps. Cheers!

Thanks! I have to go through marriage prep first apparently but this really opens up more possibilities for my wedding.

i'll bo going OS for photoshoot, but need to do my own make up (of which I have no clue since I never put make up). Hopefully I won't screw it up :(

After thinking for sometime, Decided not to get AD videography. Cos we r already getting our own photographer and want to save some $$. We will have photos to document anyway, and I'm quite camera shy in the first place.

I think I will not look at the video often anyway, unlike the photos.

Can ask your photographer if he has any mua contacts to recommend! Usually will have. I have read in many articles that it's better to get it done professionally even if you r good in make up. Heard makeup for photography purposes is different plus don't stress yourself when taking the photos!

Thanks for all your advises :)

Was wondering any of you having your ROM at the ROM office (separately from the AD)? Do u girls get a MUA to help u do the makeup? Due to budget I am considering doing ROM at their office & I got my own dress, shoes but makeup wise still considering........

@kemise no intention to hire a MUA to style you up for the photo shoot? I think should cost about $700 for two styles of make up with hairdo..

Hmm but it's overseas photoshoot, so if I want to hire a SG MUA, I would need to pay for her air tickets etc. (which amounts to too much).

Hmm he doesn't have tie ups with any MUA, and his previous overseas shoot are all couples who did their own simple make up too. But what's worst is... I never did my own make up before.. oops.

my bestfriend had hers at the rom office and she did her own light makeup.

I guess it really depend on the individual? For her, it's just a simple affair with her family members (& me haha), the only photographer is her brother who took some photos here and there. after the ceremony, wwe all proceeded to a small restaurant for a simple meal. thats all, so she see no need in engaging a MUA just for that 5-10 mins of signing. Even her dress was bought last min - a simple one as well. :)

But if you intend to invite alot of ppl, have a party after the ceremony, engage a professional photographer, etc, then it's a different story. :)

I also intending not to get videographers for my wedding .. I only plan to get photographers as it exceeds my budget

For overseas photoshoot, you can check out www.onethreeonefour.com. There are like korean/taiwan/bali photographers, really really beautiful photos, pretty cheap also, can book directly. My thoughts are it's always better to get a local pg to shoot, cos they know the places better.

My boyfriend and I are planning on having our wedding in mid 2016, did our photoshoot in bali :) but still haven't book our wedding venue yet. Considering Ramada and Grand Shanghai... Does anybody know of any reviews on Ramada? Is the food ok?? Grand Shanghai's package is very attractive too... Can't decide :/

I wouldn't consider Ramada.. had a bad experience with them for corporate function and their staff started to play the blame game.. not very professional and their lights in the ballroom are not very bright..

@tulipkiss apologies for the way overdue reply. I just asked my friend and the consignment wine is at Blk 85a Toa Payoh Lorong 4. Hope this info is still useful :)

thank you for the info! n no worries cos my AD is next June.. probably gonna start on the wine vendors only next year haha..

still haven't found time to go down to the BS *pulls hair!* for my solemnisation in Nov.

if we're doing the solemnisation elsewhere (not at the ROM office), do we still need to book slots on ROM website? how quickly do slots get taken up (need to wait at midnight exactly 3 months before the date to book the slot anot, LOL)?

i think it's entirely up to you :) it's your wedding, you are the main lead

yes,if i am not wrong, i think you will need to book your slots 3 months in advance for your solemnizer, and for them to prepare your certificate. THe certificate will then be collected 1-2 days before your ROM, if you are doing offsite of ROM. I guess if you are doing in ROM, then don't have to collect the certificate? Not sure about that - you might want to check :)

I dont think so because I did my solemnisation at ROM itself and the slot I booked was for the actual day itself. If you are doing it outside, then you can do whatever time the JP can do for you.

After you submit your application and paid for it, they will tell you what time and date you have to go in to verify ID. I heard that date is hard to change and they generally discourage it. My ROM was 3/7 and verification of docs was 1/7.

Due to tight budget, I just signed up with a online bridal shop with less than $2k for AD (morning only), check out this FB Page . The ROM Package with Gown and makeover starts from $588 only, too bad have passed my ROM else its very good deal. :)

I went to try the gowns, have quite a good decent selection, their photography portfolio also looks good. I ask them why the rate can be soo low, they said without going through the high rental cost of retail shop, they can offer much lower prices for similar quality to customers.

Very good Deal, includes the following <@$1500
- 1 Wedding Gown
- 1 Groom Suit
- Bridal Makeup and hairstyling
- Ampoule, False Eyelash (Free)
- Accessories
- Flower Bouquet
- Car Decorations
- 5hrs of AD Photography (all photos returned -DVD)

Hi, I am new here, looking for budget and good package.
Could know the contact no. or email of the contact of the above BS ?? Thanks !

Hello, I am just starting to plan my wedding which will be end of year 2016. Have just started to look at the bridal package and banquet. Not sure what are the things I should look for in the package. Any advice?

Welcome @Serene04!

For banquet, you could probably look out for the amount of beer and wine offered, the price per table, whether they have a halal kitchen (for your Muslim guests), whether the ballroom is pillar less, minimum number of tables, whether they provide helpers room and no. of nights stay at the bridal suite...

For bridal package, if you decide to go for non ala carte, take note of the number of photos given and the price per additional photo selected, number of gowns and whether there is a certain range that you can choose from... If you would like to have all soft copies of your pre-wedding photo shoot pictures, I'd suggest you just purchase an AD (gowns only) package and source for your own photographers and videographers (optional)...

Hope this helps!

Hi @kemise, where are you doing your Overseas Pre-wedd photoshoot? I just did mine, if it is in the same country I can intro you my MUA. I did it in Italy and Germany.

Hi everyone!

Thought I'd share a bit of info, we booked our wedding venue for next year September at the Shangri-la wedding show just the weekend that passed.

We booked for the Tower ballroom, 30 tables at $1,688++ per table. Free flow of beer, 2 bottles of wine per table. 2 nights stay in the suite, 2 rooms for helpers on wedding night. 1 night stay in suite on one year anniversary. 2 nights "honeymoon" stay in Shang kota kinabalu but can convert to stays in Shang SG so we will most likely do that..

I thought it was pretty attractive!

that is really pretty attractive package, but for the per table cost that you pay, they definitely have to give really good benefits :P banquets are getting so expensive now adays!

Hi @effie05,

Thank you for the information. I have went for a few wedding show and it seems like the package is around $5k including pre wedding shoot and actual day gown (excluding AD photography and videography). Not sure if it is considered expensive.

My bf and I are thinking of going taiwan or jeju island for photoshoot, any recommendation if we should book the pre wedding package in Singapore or book directly from the bridal shop over there? Any idea what are the reasonable price range?
Hi all BTBs, for pre-wedding make up, would you all go for trial first (usually chargeable) before you book a particular make up artist? I see that most of them provide a trial for AD packages but not pre-wedding packages. So I'm just wondering if it's necessary..

Also, any comments with regards to airbrush make up? Heard that it's supposed to be smoother looking.

@Serene04

I think I'm more towards ala carte style so I'll definitely choose my own photographer (not from the bridal studio) and I'll get back more photos! Especially since u are doing it overseas at a higher price...

As for the $5k package, I think it's quite pricey! The ones that i went to were average $4k including gowns and pre-wedding photography.

I have booked a bridal studio package so there is an AD makeup trial. Asked the consultant and she said typically people do not need trial for pre-wedding photoshoot bc the makeup is much more dramatic and thicker (if thats the right word to use).
I suppose that means the makeup will turn out nicer on photos than in person haha

I havent tried airbrush, but I have heard good reviews from everyone who tried!

Does anyone have recommendation for actual day 6-hr videographer with same day edit? We have a very tight budget so hoping to find someone professional and yet is within our budget of sgd1300...

You can try cream pictures 6 hours @ $1,500 or IDO films 9 hours @ $1,800 but if u only need 6 hours they can customize something for you :) thanks @Andes for sharing your make up suggestions.

Hello girls!
I wanted to DIY my arch using balloons, but i think it will take too much effort, and my fiance's wants me to be as relaxed as possible on that day.. need your suggestions please:

1) Where can i get a floral arch? My budget is about $500
2) What should i do with the excessive amount of balloons i bought? :P My fiance said we can use the balloons during the photoshoot or even spam the floor during the reception.

If anyone is keen to take over some, i will let go at cost price too! 1.50 for 10 pieces. Meet ups @ Serangoon or Buona Vista.
Please PM me if you are interested

Zyn is a very nice lady. I think it cost less than $300 for the pink/white floral archImageUploadedByForum1440507528.980686.jpg

Price quoted is for rent and artificial flowers. Real flowers will cost way more expensive. She can always customize for you on your request.
