(2016) 2016 brides

Hi all, I'm a 2016 Dec BTB!

Will be doing a wedding lunch. Gate crashing and solemnization all on the same day too.

Anyone doing the same and has a rough guide on how the flow of AD should be like?

Me I will be doing the same thing! haha save the hassle to spread out manpower on different days .

Flow will probably be like

6am make up
7am gate crash
830am reach groom place (we stay near each other, 5-10 min drive)
1030am reach hotel (if possible, so as to let the sisters and brothers' rest, and probably take some nice photos around there before entering hotel - MBS )
1130am solemnisation
12pm reception
1pm lunch

:D

Hi ladies! I'm also a 2016 BTB (Sept).

Currently facing the dilemma of going for a BS or getting ala carte for everything mainly cuz of photographer preference. But ala carte is expensive especially the more popular ones like lightedpixels, multifolds etc..

Other than Amanda Lee, are there any other BS that does collaborations with these popular ala carte photographers? Are photographers with BS usually free lance?

I see that YC is highly recommended! :) but so far haven't been to any BS cuz I really want to avoid the pushy tactics and that probably have to sign package after trying/have to sign package even before looking at any gowns :/

Hi kemise, congrats on your forthcoming wedding!! ☺️

Will you be doing tea ceremony at your HTB too?

I am thinking of doing the tea ceremony for both side in the hotel to save the hassle Just wondering if traditionally, we will still be required to go HTB house from my house.

I guess it depends on when and where you make the booking. Mine was done at the hotel wedding show.. so they had to do many contracts at the same time.. that's why it took 3-4 weeks. But it's good to look through and then let your coordinator know what other changes you want and whether it can put in.

oh.. we met the coordinator directly, and the hotel doesn't do wedding shows.. i shall wait for a while more.. :)

my bff took 2 hours to complete her makeup. so i would probably buffer 2hrs for it..

my girlfriend's actual timeline:

830am tea ceremony
930am reach groom's place. tea ceremony
10am rest..
1045am proceed to hotel
1115am setup reception
1145am solemization
1230 reception, then lunch

Hello! Maybe you can try rico - they are not pushy. I tried on about 4 gowns and they didn't pressure me into signing. I did go to 2 other gown rental shops to see if I could get cheaper gowns (because I'm doing my photography alacarte) but still went back to rico in the end.

But yes it's definitely more ex. You could consider buying a gown from someone here or trying to tailor - at least you'll get to keep the gowns and suits. On hindsight, I think I don't even need 2 gowns. Could have just gotten one to keep. Preferably one that I can alter shorter or something .

Can consider having a casual photoshoot as well. When we were thinking about locations, we realised that more casual outfits work as well - u could get a really pretty dress for a few hundred which you can keep.

Going to a boutique would be easiest though.

Photographers with bs r usually their employees, not free lance.

how do u negotiate for perks with the hotels? we tried and never got anything successfully, other than corkage waiver for 20 bottles of wine :/

Also depends on the number of tables you have? I bargained my during wedding show.. thus more perks? Maybe say other hotels can do this? I compare against other hotels before I decide on the venue though.. =S

Hi congrats to you too!

Oh.. when he gate crash , we will do the ceremony at my place to my parents.. then after which we will head to his house to do tea ceremony before going hotel :) wanted to do at hotel but just scared it might be a little inconvenient for his grandmother who needs to go there much earlier (as compared to just the solemnisation/lunch reception). Traditionally the tea ceremony with my family should be done after his.. but nvm la, save time :P

must negotiate knowing exactly what you want I guess? I went meeting the wedding coordinator knowing that I will want more invitation cards (since among my friends I am the first few to marry), more parking coupons (since parking fee is expensive). an extra night at bridal suite (because mine is a non-alcohol event), a room voucher redeemable within 6 months.

Yes. I agree. You need to know what you are negotiating for.. I went to a few hotels thus I know what to ask for.. I too asked for more parking! Lol!

when we went thru the package, coordinator already automatically increase the parking coupon, invitation cards and mentioned corkage waiver. we requested for an additional night of stay, was rejected. day use room also rejected. unless we increase agreed tables by 5 more.

I booked my at a wedding show.. so they already increased my suite stay to 2 nights a 2 nights of normal room.. but it's cos of a higher end menu also..

Some make up artist may take up to 3 hours long for the actual day wedding. Please check with the makeup artist in advance while planning for your wedding. If you have sisters or mum using the same make up artist, do buffer extra time too. :)

omg 3 hours?! but i think i will just want a simple make up.. the last time i had make up on my face was JC prom night.. :\ so... not a fan of make up and stuffs haha! I think my sisters and mum will do their own make up :) but thanks for the heads up! :D

ohh.. meaning instead of 1 night suite, become 2 nights deluxe/standard room? I think my coordinator offered that too..

higher end menu refers to more expensive package?

better to check with the MUA u engage :) my photoshoot makeup took 2hrs even thou it seems pretty simple too, lol..

Sorry not very clear.. Instead of the usual 1 night suite.. We got 2 nights suite.. on top of that still have 2 nights of deluxe room stay..

Yah. The package is more expensive.. maybe if you pay for the room yourself would be cheaper than signing a more ex package? But cos I needed the alcohol thus the higher end. My dad friends drink a lot..

Oooh, that's such a sweet deal!
Yeah I was telling htb the same thing, don't increase 5 tables just to get 1 additional suite stay n 1 day use room? I can book lotsa suite stays with the $ saved haha.. that saying becos we don't have additional 5 tables of guests to invite la.. :)

more exp package cos of the liquor? if u consign liquor / wine and ask for corkage waiver, would it be cheaper?

I think got corkage charge if we sign the cheaper package.. then might as well let the hotel provide everything.. don't need to source and find cheap alcohol and carry to the hotel.. have heard of stories that alcohol disappear.. opened bottles half way.. not enough end up paying hotel's alcohol etc...

yeah it's depends on the price vs efforts sometimes.. no point going through alot of hassle to bring own wine/liquor if the package isn't that much cheaper :)

for us, we know a (trustworthy) wine supplier and the hotel doesn't have the wine we want, so decided to do it ourselves still..

any one knows how much wine/liquor would normally be consumed for a lunch banquet? some hotel coordinators told us 1.5 / table, some say 1 / table.
my relatives don't drink, it's more of friends and colleagues..

My estimate is also 1-1.5 per table for lunch. In fact my colleague who had his dinner banquet said they only used 1 per table.

i can either have more corkage waiver or a day use room.. it's difficult to estimate how much the guests will drink. but guess we'll have more corkage waiver to be safe.. families can squeeze in the suite with us, lol.

Any btb doing without gatecrash? What's the procedure like?

I want to skip gatecrash because I don't want my htb to be humiliated. Not sure if anybody feels the same way like I do.

gatecrash can be sweet and fun, instead of humiliating.. depending on your jiemei's personalities.
recently for my girlfriend's wedding, we played very simple games and let the groom write down his promises to the bride.. nothing vulgar or towards x-rated kind. it's more like bonding session for us and the brothers/groom, lol.

I might skip partly due to time issue and partly due to it being quite boring after been to so many weddings over the years. But thing is it will be a bit weird when groom just walk into the house and fetch the bride.. So still thinking of how to go about making the fetch the bride appear more seamless and less awkward without gatecrash.

only a few make up artists I know does it for 3 hours. hence it is best to check with them. trial make up will be less than an hour / 30 mins. hence, some brides may miscalculate the time with the actual day's make up time.

true... i should ask when i am doing the trial :) thanks!!

play some quiz and intellectual games instead? :P

i have got 24 tables for my wedding lunch and approx 38 bottles of wine were consumed. i had a grp of guests who ordered 1 bottle of wine for every dish. yikes..
lucky my parents convinced me to cater additional wine otherwise, the wine which the hotel provided wouldn't be sufficient. so for BTB who are having lunch banquet, pls do not underestimate the alcohol consumption for luncheons!

i think u might not have sufficient time. better to start early. need to cater for mother's makeup before the ROM as well.
i started my morning makeup at 4am and i could hardly breathe cos my schedule was so packed and i wished i had more time! i had a luncheon btw :)

wow.. i'll be consigning the wines, so not that worried about 'shortages'. but will have to pay corkage once exceeded the agreed amount in the package.. need to add more buffer into our budget.. haha..

oh btw, if i'm following the auspicious timing given by the geomancer, i'll need to start my makeup at 4am too :( :( thinking of not following..hurhur.. so that i can start my makeup at 6-7am instead!

Hey ladies.. what should I look out for in the banquet contract?

And what are the items that should be in the banquet contract usually? I noticed mine states the aisle floral stands n vip centrepieces etc. but there's no mention of seat covers and sash..

wow ok then mybe make up at 5am or 530am will be better!

Will BS open on public holidays? Thinking of selecting a few to visit this long weekend.

Anyone has BS package that allows the tea dress / one of the gowns to be used on a separate day instead for ROM? Eg, the package includes tea dress / kwa and 2 gowns for AD.. but i would like to use one of the gowns for solemnisation on a separate day instead..

Hi, where you cater your wine supplies ?? I am still thinking whether to get extra wine / liquor for my wedding ...

Helloooo.. my boyfriend proposed 2 days ago! Hehe. We've been talking about getting married for a while now so I guess now we can officially start planning. We're thinking about next year.. not really any particular time.

Our plan is probably church wedding in the morning then wedding dinner. That's about it.. no gatecrashing..

Where do we start?? Do we start with deciding the date? Or venue? Or guest numbers? Venue wise, we decided food will be our top priority..

Thanks! :)

I believe that you would need to get a date first. This is because if you get the venue be for getting the date.. The venue might not be available on the day you want and may have to keep changing dates.

You may also want to consider the number of ppl you want to invite because the venue might or might not be able to cater to you.

If you want to book for next year.. you better start soon because next year's dates are running out very quickly if you happen to want an auspicious date. :)

Hi, where you cater your wine supplies ?? I am still thinking whether to get extra wine / liquor for my wedding ...

One of the hotel coordinators we met recommended Wine Connection.. :) My hotel coordinator doesn't recommend that we take the hotel wine becos it's not value for money, haha. She says arranging our own wine is much cheaper..

Congrats! Start by shortlisting a few suitable dates and start visiting venues you are interested in.
Have an estimation of how many guests/tables u will be inviting cos venues may have a min/max number of pax they can hold.

Hi all... HTB proposed last month and we're planning for our wedding next year but not sure when yet exactly because still stressing out over what kind of wedding to have!

HTB and I are Christians, but we're concerned about some relatives not wanting to come to a church and we want to avoid cost of having two events (e.g. Church wedding reception and dinner). Anyone managed to pull off one event that guests were happy with?

Curious if anyone has had the experience of getting a pastor to officiate/ do wedding blessings for wedding outside of church venue...

@LPLx I'm doing the exact same thing as you! Nov 2016 BTB :)

I think my schedule should be something like this:
- 4am make-up
- 6am gate crash (htb is Teochew)
- 7am tea ceremony @ bride's house
- 8am tea ceremony @ groom's house
- 10am proceed to hotel, preparation for solemnization
- 11.30 am solemnization
- 1 pm lunch commences
- End of lunch around 3-4 pm

Any comments / suggestions from other BTBs? Is it a must to have tea ceremony at groom's place before bride's place?

@tulipkiss one of my friends who just got married last year says she can get consignment wines somewhere in toa payoh...

Hello! I'm looking for an affordable freelance photographer who could capture our simple solemnization on December 27 at The Fullerton Bay Hotel.
