Where are you planning to go for your honeymoon? Personally, I prefer free and easy for a few reasons:
1) You decide on how and where and what etc. No restrictions unlike a tour group.
2) Timing: Tour groups tend to start super early (you can forget sleeping in or snuggling a lil longer to your SO every morning) and can be quite rushed. I've known of friends who've gone on tour groups to Europe and it's so touch-and-go. E.g. They will only stop for about 5 minutes at Eiffel Tower. Some even worse - the tour guide would say there's not enough time so the bus will just drive past without stopping and that's considered visiting Eiffel Tower d.
3) Food and culture: There may be one or two local meals with a tour group but most of the other meals will be Chinese food. I believe when people tour another country, they will want to immerse in the local culture as well as sample the local cuisine. Doing it free and easy also lets you have more time and freedom to mingle with the locals and see a side of the country from the locals' perspective. Consider it an adventure!
Onto the practical side of things, you can still plan for free and easy even in limited time. The only 2 things that were confirmed before we flew off for our honeymoon were our return flight tickets and a hotel booking for the first 2 nights' only. Everything else was done ad hoc on the go in a foreign country. Of course we had a few ideas of the major tourist attractions that we wanted to check out as well as the kind of food that we wanted to try but we did not restrict ourselves to the possibilities hence why we went super free and easy. It gave us the opportunity to actually understand the transport system in a foreign country before deciding on a proper route of how we want to travel to visit the different spots and then only book the different hotels - we changed hotels every 2-3 days to stay nearer to the attractions that we wanted to cover during those days. Plus it allowed us to mingle with the locals and get authentic recommendations as well. We ended up with a fantastic honeymoon albeit planning very little before we flew off. If you know where you're headed to, just do some research about what attractions you want to check out and try talking to family or friends who have toured there before.
Even back during my uni days, I travelled free and easy such as backpacking across the different states of Australia during summer break all on my own i.e. solo. Some people prefer tour group as everything is planned out for them and they don't need to think up or do anything except pay for their tour package and just follow along wherever they're led. The good thing about free and easy, however, is that you can always adapt and modify along the way unlike the more rigid tour group.
