Hello, I am BTB 2015 (most likely dec). Going to get date from Master Long after CNY.

Just join the forum to get advice on wedding planning. :)
And considering bridal shops: Z Wedding, Lourve Bridal.

Dinner: Shang ri-la
AD Photography - I am considering Cai Ding Yan as HTB went for one of his workshop and likes his positive and cheerful nature.

Never too early to book a date with your hotel! If you are set on Shangri-La, see if they can block the date for you asap! Best if you track and attend the wedding shows since their packages are usually better.
My HTB and I just booked our hotel as we were told that there were other couples vying for our date.

Good to make sure no progressive payment - don't over commit as well! planning early is also SO MUCH easier on the finances!

Yes agreed with @pamrachael , there are a few of hotels/restaurant don't have the dates that I want already.
Sourcing for banquet venue is so headache, i had already zoom down my requirements and left that pathetic few hotels to choose from.
Hopefully I could settle by this month.

@pamrachael where did you book for ur banquet?

We've booked Furama Riverfront. If you haven't booked, I highly recommend them (if you intend to have min 36 tables and up). Their Venus ballroom has a beautiful high ceiling, and your guests would enjoy the exclusivity of a spacious foyer area (more than enough space for a photo booth if u are planning for one!). Not to mention - the price is good! Feedback from my friends who've attended weddings there that the food is good! (of course there'll be mixed reviews I guess, and my friend's wedding was in 2012. who knows how the quality would be like next year, right?)

Heard from the banquet manager that they'll be having a wedding show later in the year (Oct, i think) but if your dates are not so flexi, best to make an appt to take a look. ;)

I had been Furma Riverfront several times, my bf 's company D&D always held there and last year Dec attended his colleague wedding there too. So many times until my bf said he don't want to hold it there. Yes they have good perks of free flow beer and wine + big reeption area. keke.

I only need abt 30tables, MHotel do not have my dates already unless i push further back, Traders has two big pillar and super small reception which is bothering me else they give me very good perks. Amara is my next choice. Will arrange M hotel & Amara Hotel for viewing before deciding. All have its own pros & cons, i cant get the best of all. lol

Any more hotels u can think of and recommend? I feel drained in this process.

Amara Hotel (at Tanjong Pagar) is lovely too and dinner is about 1.2k-1.3k per table if I remember correctly (u can look at the brochure I kept). Wedding show on 22nd Feb. You should register and go take a look! I think there might be food tasting :) For good measure you could probably call and check i the date you want is still available or not.

I hear good things about Sheraton Towers too - tables of 12 rather than 10 (so remember to divide when counting/head) Lunch is for sure cheaper (BY A LOT) as compared to dinner (i think dinner on Sat is about $140/head)

Don't feel drained! Enjoy the process! What my HTB and I did was to work out our budget before sourcing for hotels. You should estimate your recovery rate at about 70-75% of the total banquet price (excluding all ur photos/videos, etc) Otherwise you might get too overwhelmed $$ wise.

Yea i had already gotten the prices from the shortlisted hotels.
Sheraton is out of budget i am trying to keep it below 1300 nett per table / 130nett per pax.
most decent hotel already cost above 1.3-1.5k that is like so exp!!!

How many tables are you looking at? Why not try Tim Palace @ SAFRA? Newly renovated and the ballroom looks nice. Wedding show coming up in Feb too. :)
Around 30tables only. I just take alook at Tim Palace , beautiful ballroom in photos. Have you visit them before? I read in forum, they do no have bridal room, need to change in restaurant public toilets?!

A friend told me about the place as he booked the place for his wedding this year. :) no room I think.. I thought the ballroom was v nice too, but since my wedding's gonna be a whole day affair, I'd prefer a hotel so I can rest...

@zrhs Alternatively u can consider Grand Shanghai, which is at Grand Copthorne Waterfront, so u can book the room in the Hotel and STILL have your banquet at a restaurant.

I'm taking PS coming early March! Hope I'm in time to "catch" the sakura.
If not, they have callas lily field which I think not bad too.

Its time to source for your banquet as usually need 1-1.5years early.
Some stuff to think about it :
- Dinner or Lunch / Church reception
- Banquet or Buffet
- Hotel or Restaurant
- Budget per table nett price?
- What kind of ballroom ? ok for Pillar or Pillarless / Low or High Ceiling ?
- Email for packages
- Review and discuss with your parnter/family
- Arrange for site viewing and negotiate the package
- discuss your final choice & book it.

Hello zrhs!

hmm.. in this case, for e.g I have a place in mind to book for the banquet. However, I can't make book it first right as both HTB's parents n my parents will need to agree on the date that we have selected? plus how do we know both our lunar birth date match the date that we have selected?

Hoping to have the banquet and everything ard Q3 or Q4 as our house will be ready by then.

It will be better that you have the estimate no. of pax and also availables dates when you email for packages.
However you cam also just try to get the packages first for the first round of research ?

Depends on your beliefs, if you want to know if match and get a date from a Master. Else you can pick any date both of you like.

For my case, we went to Master last year to have a list of "good dates" for me & my HTB. We started our banquet research in Jan. my parents leave all decision to us but i still seek their opinion when I can't make any decision

That's alots, I book QianXi at Bukit Batok Hilltop but its only up to 62tables, maybe you can take a look at Qian Xi in EXPO or Jurong Safra, there shld be able to take up more tables
Hi Zrhs,

My girl-friend had it @ Expo and the food is not worth the price. Am checking with Roland, but not sure if it can accommodate up to 80 tables. HTB tried to minus off his cousins n their kids but ended up still around 50-60 tables for his side :(

I heard the room/space on the top level of Bugis+ can accommodate 1k+ people, maybe try there?

Haha! Yes. His is big. For his side, we often attend the same person wedding twice. One is the bride side, one is groom side...

I think it comes with catering, but you can check to be sure. I heard it from a Malay colleague who mentioned a friend who had her reception there and how Malay couples have lots of guests so it was the only venue that could accommodate both bride and groom's families.

personally, I don't find a need to get a master to calculate an "auspicious" or "suitable" date for wedding banquet, cos have seen many cases where the marriages eventualy end up unhappy or divorce still regardless of how auspicious a date they were given previously. hence i'm not a believer. however, my parents insist :/ i'm afraid the dates we have in mind currently might not be "suitable" per the master. how?

We didn't check for dates because we think it's a hassle and we're veeerry not superstitious about these things, just picked our anni so there's one less date to remember haha.

I'm not quite sure how this works but can ask the master to suggest a few dates? Or just pick another? Maybe convince your parents you don't need to do this?

How insistent are they about the auspicious date anyway?

If to look for a master to suggest few dates.. Which master do you girls look for? or go temple to look for master? I hope the good dates that the master provide can be those our anniversary dates. a lot of dates to remember is so problematic.
