Natasha and Ryan’s Summer Garden Wedding at 1-Altitude Coast Rooftop Bar
1-Altitude Coast was the perfect rooftop wedding venue for Natasha and Ryan’s joyful union, where the whimsical party basked under the sunset’s glow and the clink of glasses and laughter echoed through the night’s air.
No one would have known that Natasha and Ryan had only four months to scramble for another wedding venue after the sudden closure of their initial booking. The day unfolded seamlessly, starting with a wedding mass, the lunch and tea ceremony at Min Jiang Dempsey, and a sunset-blessed dinner at 1-Altitude Coast. With exquisite views exclusive to the highest vantage point in Sentosa, the cozy celebrations had everyone in elevated spirits as the couple soaked in the warmth and love from all that were present.
How did the two of you meet?
Nat: We met around 7 years ago through a bunch of mutual friends at a party! I believe I made the first move (but Ryan still thinks he made the first move haha).
What is it about your partner that you love the most?
Nat: How he shows his love for me in very small but meaningful ways. For example, he wakes up before me and because he doesn’t want me to be disturbed by the lights, he will always put an eye mask on for me very gently. Another thing I love about him is how much of a good listener he is, and how he always remembers little details about me and my life that even I sometimes forget. He’s also extremely intentional with every word and action and I always feel extremely cared for!
Ryan: I love how Nat always sees the best in people—and goes out of her way to show her love to those she cares about. We often joke about how she is a maximalist in many ways, but to me the most endearing is how much love she has for people, even total strangers. She’s thoughtful, warm, compassionate, generous, and just a joy to be around. She inspires me to love more. I thank God every day that I’m married to my best friend!
Tell us about your proposal.
Nat: He proposed to me at Rattlesnake Lake in Seattle. We were there on a holiday with my family and he knew I preferred to be proposed to somewhere outdoors (so I wouldn’t sweat) but uncrowded, and he really picked the perfect spot! He disguised it as a family photoshoot and the photographer got us to face back-to-back, and when I turned around he was on one knee. In true Ryan fashion, there was no long, elaborate speech, but instead he just said “Surprise!”. After that, we had a really cozy backyard barbecue with my family and it was a really perfect day!
Where was your wedding venue and why did you choose it?
We had a crazy long wedding day actually! We started with a wedding mass at Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, followed by the tea ceremony and lunch with our family at Min Jiang Dempsey, and finally dinner with friends at 1-Altitude Coast.
Actually, we had initially chosen Panamericana at Sentosa as our wedding venue, but they suddenly closed 4 months before the wedding! Imagine our horror having to find a new wedding venue just 4 months before the wedding! Eventually, we chose Min Jiang as the perfect lunch venue for our family since the food was incredible and the restaurant’s decor was just stunning.
We happened to chance upon 1-Altitude Coast just months before our wedding and we absolutely fell in love with the rooftop bar overlooking the sea and the gorgeous sunset! The venue was also just the right size to have a cozy yet comfortable dinner with friends.
Did you have a wedding theme? If yes, what was it and how did you achieve it?
Our theme was summer garden party! Our friends were all so sporting and came dressed in summer colours, and we also managed to achieve this theme through the gorgeous decor done by The Concepter!
What was the day like and how were you feeling?
Nat: I know it sounds cheesy, but it really was the best day of my life. When else do you get to see everybody you love in the same place, celebrating you? I definitely did have some nervousness about things not going as planned, but for the most part I just felt extremely excited! The day just passed by in a blur and thankfully, I felt I was able to soak in every moment because my wedding coordinators did a fantastic job of making sure everything ran smoothly in the background.
What did your family/friends have to say about your wedding day?
Nat: I think one word a lot of my friends used to describe my wedding was ‘cozy’! Because we only had 110 pax for dinner, it wasn’t too overwhelming and we had time to interact with all our guests, and also address many of them individually in our speeches. My guests also loved the canapés served at the rooftop bar as we enjoyed the gorgeous sunset, as well as the Indomie and ramen station after!
Ryan: People especially loved the stationery and menus—Nat poured her heart and soul into personalising the menus, name cards, and posters. It gave the wedding such a personal touch that was uniquely ours, and was definitely worth the extra time and love poured into it.
Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Nat: I think the most memorable moment for me would definitely have been the surprise dance organised by my bridal party! My husband is such a shy guy and would never be caught dancing, but I was truly moved to tears when he and the rest of our bridal party burst out with dance moves. My maid-of-honour told me he was initially so against it, but once she told him I would love it, he committed so fully to it.
What is one piece of advice you’d like to share with other couples currently planning their wedding?
I would say my best advice would be to get a wedding coordinator/planner! There are so many moving parts to a wedding and if you are too focused on them, you won’t be able to enjoy the day! Looking back, I’m so grateful that I was able to be present the whole day and enjoy every precious moment, rather than have to worry about things going the way I had planned.
