Denese and Bryan’s Dreamy All White Wedding at Sky Garden Sentosa

From high school acquaintances to soulmates, Denese and Bryan’s serendipitous journey led them to a magical all-white wedding at Sky Garden Sentosa.

When Denese, 27, Cabin Crew, and Bryan Phang, 27, Production Supervisor, first crossed paths 12 years ago, their love story was the last thing anyone would have predicted. She wasn’t interested and he had stepped in only as a wingman for a friend. But Fate clearly had other plans. Over time, their friendship transformed into a love neither of them could have predicted. Now, more than a decade later, the lovebirds whose love was written in the stars tied the knot in a dreamy, all-white wedding at Sky Garden Sentosa, surrounded by their nearest and dearest.

How did the two of you meet?

Denese: When we first met in high school 12 years ago, things weren’t exactly as romantic as they are now. In fact, it was a little complicated. I had no interest in him at first—in fact, he was actually the wingman for his friend, who was interested in getting to know me.

Bryan: I was all too happy to play that role. I was determined to help my friend win her over, so I spent a lot of time hanging around her, trying to make things happen. What I didn’t expect was that in the process, I’d end up getting to know her better than anyone else. I’d start making her laugh, teasing her a little, and showing her a side of myself that wasn’t all bad. Eventually, my “wingman” role turned into something more personal—something real—and before I knew it, I wasn’t just trying to help a friend—I was trying to win her heart.

At first, she wasn’t impressed, and to be honest, I didn’t blame her. After all, I had this reputation as the naughty kid who was always getting into trouble. Still, I wasn’t about to give up. I kept showing up, making her laugh, being there for her in ways that mattered, and gradually, she started to see me for who I really was beneath the surface.

And then, something changed. What started as rivalry and playful teasing between us slowly turned into a genuine friendship, and before either of us realised it, love crept in. I started to admire the way she challenged me, how her strength and determination made me want to be a better person. She wasn’t just someone I had to win over—she was someone I wanted to build a future with.

Now, years later, reflecting on the journey that started with a little rivalry, a wingman act, and a whole lot of persistence, we never could’ve predicted how our story would unfold, but we’re so glad it did.

What drew you to each other? What is it about one another that you love the most?

Both: Our sense of humour and our love language.

Denese: I love how he’s kind, gentle, family oriented and humorous.

Bryan: I love that she’s humorous, and she takes really good care of me.

What was the moment that made you realise that he/she was the one for you?

Denese: When we went on holiday, his patience and care towards me made me realise he’s the one I wanted to marry.

Bryan: When she takes care of me when I’m unwell, and when she makes me laugh.

Tell us about your proposal. Bryan, how did you go about planning the proposal? Where did it take place, and were there any challenges during the process?

Bryan: I was not worried as I know she’s a little oblivious. The buying of the engagement ring was quite stressful because I had to surprise her with the ring I chose and would assume what she would like. Thankfully, I know I got the right ring, and she loved it.

I got my family involved in the surprise proposal. We had a few delays in planning due to location, size and capacity but eventually we managed to find the perfect place.

Denese, did you know a proposal was coming before it happened, or were you taken completely by surprise?

Denese: I was told that we were going for a picnic. We had a picnic planned since forever, but we always get too lazy as the weather is always so hot and humid or the food items are a hassle to bring over. He said that he would like to try glam picnic services so that we can enjoy our time at ease, and I was so excited for our very first picnic.

Little did I know, he guided me towards the garden pod by Gardens by the Bay. He proposed to me there with a cute photo set up and our families and close friends were there to witness the event.

Tell us about your wedding. Did you have a wedding theme?

Our wedding venue was held at Sky Garden Sentosa. We didn’t like the traditional hotel banquets and were looking for a few alternatives for our wedding venue. Sky Garden Sentosa caught our eye as it is a glasshouse and we can display fairy lights for a dreamy look. The location also had a perfect fireworks and sea view as well.

Our wedding didn’t have a theme per se, but I would say it was a very white wedding and games-filled event. I had three dresses that day and it was all white in colour.

We had picture-printed butter cookies as gift favours and a cocktail bar for unlimited drinks for our guests. Needless to say, they had a lot of fun. We planned a few games but one of them was one where we had a cocktail table filled with mini shots, and guests who wanted to play had to contribute $10 to the money pot to participate in order to earn an entrance ticket.

Take us back to your wedding day: What was the day like and how were you feeling?

Denese: I was feeling excited and relaxed as our day only started in the afternoon.

Bryan: I was nervous and excited. I didn’t managed to sleep the night before. I prepared a surprise dance for her but I was too nervous to perform and did a song instead.

What did your family/friends have to say about your wedding day?

Both: Our friends had a lot to drink and had a lot of fun at the wedding. Our family finally got to see us tying the knot after 11 years of dating and they were all excited.

Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Both: Our first look before the wedding was the most memorable. No amount of vocabulary can explain that feeling even after 11 years of being together.

What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?

Both: Many people I know have shared that wedding planning and the actual wedding day are stressful and tiring. However, we had a lot of fun planning and really enjoyed our wedding day, all thanks to everyone who helped us. I would recommend not to over-stress on perfection and don’t over-pack your wedding day. You have to remember it’s a day you will remember for life, so just enjoy to your heart’s content.
