Yap Hui Xin and Ted Chong’s Retro Pre-Wedding Shoot in A Vinyl Listening Café

Actress Yap Hui Xin and her love Ted Chong’s pre-wedding shoot in a retro vinyl listening cafe was a fun and casual session that captured their deep connection.

Yap Hui Xin, 33, Actress and Content Creator and Ted Chong, 34, Entrepreneur, met 11 years ago in Korea. What started as a chance meeting through mutual friends soon turned into an unbreakable bond—one built on laughter, shared dreams, and unwavering support through life’s ups and downs. For their local pre-wedding session, the couple wanted authentic moments of their story, with a relaxed, unconventional, retro-inspired theme at a vinyl listening café in Singapore that perfectly captured their fun-loving personalities.

How did you first meet?

We met during our university exchange programme in Korea through mutual friends. What started as a serendipitous meeting soon blossomed into a deep connection. Over the past 11 years, we’ve grown together, supporting each other through life’s challenges and celebrating its joys.

What do you love most about your partner?

Hui Xin: What I love most about Ted is his ability to find the good in every situation. No matter what life throws at us, he has an incredible way of grounding me and giving me the support I need.

Ted: I love Hui Xin’s personality. She’s kind-hearted, thoughtful, and easy to be around. I’m constantly inspired by how she cares for others and approaches life with such warmth and positivity.

What was the proposal like?

Hui Xin: The proposal didn’t go exactly as planned, but it turned out even more special. We were in Jeju and Ted had originally planned to propose at a seaside restaurant, but I was busy shooting my videos. As the sun began to set, he decided to seize the moment and proposed right outside our accommodation, which had a stunning sea view and a breathtaking sunset. It was intimate, heartfelt, and perfect in its own way.

Tell us about your pre-wedding session in Singapore.

For our Singapore shoot, we wanted to break away from the traditional wedding photos and do something that reflected our personalities. Instead of the usual suits and gowns, we opted for a more casual and thematic approach. When our photographer suggested a vinyl listening café, we immediately loved the idea. The retro vibes and cozy atmosphere felt like the perfect backdrop for something unconventional and fun. It was a refreshing change from the norm, and it allowed us to capture moments that felt authentic and uniquely us.

The shoot was relaxed, fun and comfortable. We didn’t have to worry about heavy makeup or formal attire, which made the experience feel genuine and stress-free. We wanted to capture moments that felt casual, fun, and authentic, rather than the typical posed wedding photos. It was all about showcasing our connection in a way that felt true to us.

When will the wedding be, and what are your plans for it?

We used SingaporeBrides as our wedding resource and also attended The SingaporeBrides Wedding Fair when planning our wedding, which was held on 12 January 2025 at voco Orchard Singapore. We wanted something simple and heartfelt, so we kept it intimate with just our family and close friends. It was a beautiful celebration filled with love and meaningful moments.
