Andriana and Lyrus’s Elegant and Romantic Raffles Singapore Military Wedding
Andriana and Lyrus wed in an elegant and romantic ceremony in front on the charming Raffles Singapore fountain, followed by an impressive Singapore military wedding march-in to their beautiful banquet.
Seven is the magic number for Andriana, 29, and Lyrus, 30, Naval Officer, whose love story began in university in 2017, where study sessions turned into a deep and lasting bond. After nearly seven years together, they celebrated their wedding on 7 July 2024, in an elegant and heartfelt ceremony at Raffles Singapore. From a breathtaking proposal in Hallstatt, Austria, to a grand military march-in under an arch of swords, their wedding was a beautiful blend of tradition, romance, and personal touches. Surrounded by 250 loved ones, they filled the day with laughter, love, and unforgettable moments, marking the beginning of their next chapter together.
How did you meet each other?
Lyrus: We first met at university, where we were studying the same course. We spent time studying together for our exam-heavy curriculum, which eventually brought us closer.
Andriana: He asked me to be his girlfriend on the Christmas Eve of 2017, and we were together for almost seven years before tying the knot on 7 July 2024.
What do you love most about your partner?
Lyrus: I love my partner because she is smart, reliable, beautiful, and meticulous. Although she has little patience, her love changed her and she was so determined to teach and guide me throughout my university days. Without her, I would not have graduated.
Andriana: He makes me laugh effortlessly with his antics and sense of humour. I love him because he has always been supportive of everything I do, including my ever-changing hobbies, in which he even makes an effort to participate.
What was the proposal like?
Lyrus: I proposed to her in Hallstatt, Austria, during our European holiday. I hired a local photographer to capture the moment as I proposed to Andriana in the chilling cold under the city centre lights.
Andriana: I have to admit, I suspected the proposal because he asked me out of the blue to dress nicely and make sure my nails were done! I was happy to be proposed to in Hallstatt, a town I had always dreamed of visiting. Now, I will always remember it as such a special and happy place.
What was your wedding theme, and how did you create it?
Lyrus: One of the reasons we chose our venue, Raffles Hotel, was its colonial and classic aesthetic. To be honest, the hotel’s interior was already so stunning that it did not need much additional decor.
Andriana: To complement the hotel’s architecture and not overshadow it, I chose simpler decor. The floral arrangements along the aisle beautifully enhanced the wedding ambiance and tied everything together.
What was your wedding day like, and what was your favourite moment?
Lyrus: The wedding day was surreal, exciting, stressful, and fun all at once. My most memorable moment was the military wedding march-in, where we walked down the aisle under an arch of swords. I had been envisioning this moment since my teens when I saw a magazine featuring military officers having their wedding. It was a cool tradition and something money simply cannot buy.
Andriana: Although I was nervous, I was glad I managed to enjoy myself. I was happy to see my family, bridesmaids, and friends enjoying themselves as much as I did. I can’t pick just one favourite moment from the wedding, but I loved how the entire day was filled with so much laughter shared by Lyrus and me, and all our guests!
Any advice for couples planning their weddings?
Lyrus: Our groomsmen and bridesmaids were amazing in helping us at the wedding. We made sure to brief them clearly on the schedule, tasks, and contact persons so that everyone knew their roles. From coordinating with vendors to assisting guests, they went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. We couldn’t have done it without them and are so thankful for their support and friendship till this day.
I also recommend engaging a skilled emcee, either a friend who is great at hosting large crowds or a professional entertainment company. Your guests deserve not only delicious food but also excellent entertainment during the wedding banquet. For example, we had a Kahoot quiz and I performed an Indonesian song. Adding a “wow” factor is key to making your wedding stand out from conventional ones, leaving a lasting impression on your guests!
Andriana: I created mood boards and visuals for the decor, florals, and other wedding elements to easily share my ideas with the vendors. I included colours, designs, and specific examples, to make it easier for them to understand what I want. This helped in the planning process not only in terms of aesthetics but also for the vendors to have a visual guide on where to place the decor and floral arrangements.
