Tessa and Sean’s Disney-Inspired Proposal at the Raffles Singapore Fountain
Sparks flew at Tessa and Sean’s beautiful, Disney-inspired proposal in front of a romantically styled fountain!
Tessa Low, 27, Lawyer, and Sean Sim, 29, Lawyer knew that they wanted to do life together. When COVID-19 dashed their dreams for a long-hoped-for Disneyland proposal, Sean decided to bring Disneyland to Tessa with a pyrotechnic show at a romantic fountain styled with beautiful florals and a Disney-inspired storyboard!
How did you meet each other?
We met back in February 2015 when Tessa was studying in Melbourne and Sean was in Singapore. We did four years of long distance relationship and shuttled back and forth between countries every time we had a break. After Tessa came back to Singapore, it was as though our extended holiday had ended! We had to properly embark on our careers and plan for our future together. We can say for sure that it hasn’t all been easy, but the journey with each other has been more than worth it.
What do you love most about your partner?
There’s never a dull moment when we are with each other. We make each other laugh all the time, even when we are not trying. And we think laughter is the best gift we can give to each other. We have very similar interests and are in the same field of work. So we really mean it when we tell each other, “I understand what you mean” and know just what to say or do to make things a little better.
Sean: I love that Tessa is genuine and truly cares about the happiness of the people around her. She always knows just the right thing to say to lift others up.
Tessa: I love that Sean understands me and that we are partners. We all have our own troubles but every time we start talking in the way that we do, whether it’s over a bottle of wine or a silly cartoon, we find solutions that are right for us.
Was the proposal a surprise? How did you plan it?
Sean: The COVID-19 pandemic meant that we spent a large part of 2020 at home together and by the end of the lockdowns, we were convinced that we wanted to do life together. But it also meant that Tessa could not have her dream proposal in Disneyland, something we talked about for years and on our trips together to Disneyland in different parts of the world.
So when I proposed on 11 September at a Disney-inspired fountain, storyboards inspired by the Disney rides, and some pyrotechnics (as much as Singapore and Raffles Hotel would allow!) she was pleasantly surprised. In my mind, I was thinking that if the pandemic stopped me from proposing at Disneyland, it was not going to stop me from bringing Disneyland to her! Of course, I had the help of the wonderful people from The Wedding Stylist who helped make my imagination a reality.
Any plans for the wedding yet?
Yes! We have chosen Clifford Pier as our venue and are keeping our fingers crossed that the COVID-19 situation does not worsen. We have always imagined a wedding with an elegant cocktail reception, intimate dinner, and crazy afterparty. But if the past year has taught us anything, it is to expect the unexpected and go with the flow! At the end of the day it is the company that makes the party!
