Christine and Mun Yeong’s Garden Wedding in Johor Bahru with Beautiful Traditional Chinese Outfits and Dreamy Elements

With their family and friends as witness to their happy union, Christine and Mun Yeong tied the knot in a grand celebration in Johor Bahru in a garden themed wedding under the stars.

Christine, 28, Beauty Director at Beauty & The Chris, and Mun Yeong, 39, Assistant Sales Manager at IKEA, worked in the same company but only met each other when they were at Starbucks one fateful day. But it wasn’t until they left the company that they started to meet up more often for meals or to run. Love blossomed soon after, and the lovely couple decided to tie the knot in a beautiful celebration that features a harmonious blend of Chinese wedding traditions with modern Western wedding elements, in a garden wedding under the stars as their family and friends bore witness to their happy union.

Share with us what was it that attracted you to your partner?

Mun Yeong: The intellectual connection between us and the deep conversations we had attracted us to one another.

What is it about your partner that you love the most?

Mun Yeong: I love her sense of humour as I am rather introverted. Somehow or rather, her funny conversations or actions would make me burst into laughter.

How did you propose?

Mun Yeong: I did it on the New Year’s Eve countdown in a rented Airbnb over at Kota Tinggi area, with her friends and family present. The plan was to take it as a usual friends gathering and outing to surprise her.

Tell us about your wedding. Was there a wedding theme?

Mun Yeong: We chose Yi Jia Theme Banquet Hall as our wedding venue because their banquet hall had different types of themes and it fit what we wanted. We chose the garden theme in one of their banquet halls and managed to have it under the night stars while having air-conditioning since the weather is warm.

Take us back to your wedding day. How were you feeling? Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Mun Yeong: Our wedding day was slightly unique as we skipped the tea ceremony for my relatives as they were all in Singapore. However, we still went through the morning tea ceremony with Christine’s family and took some photos and videos in the afternoon, before we headed over to the venue to prepare for dinner. Although it was exhausting, I was also excited at the same time.

The march-in was the most memorable moment for me, especially where my father-in-law did the Chinese tradition.

What did your family/friends have to say about your wedding day?

Mun Yeong: They loved the atmosphere, and since what we did for the wedding is unique with the Chinese tradition of marching in and a march out at the end of the ceremony.

What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?

Mun Yeong: Communication is the key between couples as it involves a lot of planning that needs to be done. Give yourself ample time in between to prevent any hiccups as well as come up with a back-up plan for certain unforeseen situations. Lastly, our emcee was an important component of our wedding, as it helped us to manage the time throughout dinner, ensuring that everything went smoothly.
