An Unforgettable Swiss Winter Honeymoon in St Mortiz
In the heart of the majestic Swiss Alps, where snow-dusted peaks touch the heavens, lies the idyllic village of St. Moritz. Renowned for its timeless grandeur and unrivalled beauty, this alpine retreat beckons newlyweds from around the world seeking a romantic escape.
Nestled in the picturesque Engadin (or Engadine) Valley, St. Moritz is not just a place you pass through on the way to a ski run. It’s a place you settle into, slowly, over days that feel longer and quieter and better than your usual ones. For honeymooners especially, that unhurried quality is the whole point.
The Engadin Valley sits at high altitude but catches an unusual amount of sunshine. Even mid-winter, the light here is extraordinary, bouncing off frozen lakes and snow-covered rooftops in a way that makes everything look slightly unreal. The village itself blends old European architecture with a quietly cosmopolitan energy: there are Michelin-starred restaurants and centuries-old chapels within walking distance of each other, which more or less sums up the St. Moritz experience.
Whether you are a couple that enjoys winter sports, are connoisseurs of fine dining, or are simply seeking a serene winter honeymoon, St. Moritz promises an unforgettable experience. In the first of our feature on Switzerland, we showed you where you can stay or host your winter wedding in the Engadine. Now, here are some things you can see and do in St Moritz, including spa treatment, museums, even wedding venues!
Activities in St. Moritz
Winter Sports
Let’s get the obvious one out of the way, but it does deserve its reputation. St. Moritz has 350 kilometres of slopes across three distinct mountain areas, each with its own character.
Corviglia is the most accessible, well-groomed and ideal if one of you is more confident on skis than the other (no judgement). Corvatsch is for those who want something more dramatic — the vertical drops are genuinely thrilling. And then there’s Diavolezza, which sits at glacier level and delivers the kind of panoramic views that make you stop mid-descent just to take it in.
Skiing down from the peaks of DiavolezzaAs the crown jewels of St. Moritz’s winter sports scene, the triumvirate of Corviglia, Corvatsch, and Diavolezza offer a tapestry of snowy slopes, breathtaking vistas, and adrenaline-fuelled thrills. Whether gliding down the meticulously-groomed runs of Corviglia, conquering the awe-inspiring vertical drops of Corvatsch, or venturing to the heights of Diavolezza for heart-stopping panoramas, each mountain presents its own unique allure, ensuring that even the most seasoned skier or snowboarder will find their alpine dreams realised.

Wedding set up inside the Berghaus restaurant atop Diavolezza
For couples who want to turn their winter sports into something more meaningful: Diavolezza is also a wedding venue. The Berghaus, the mountain inn perched at the summit, can host ceremonies surrounded by sweeping glaciers and clifftop views. If you’ve ever wanted to exchange vows somewhere that feels entirely removed from the ordinary world, this is a legitimate contender.
The Berghaus is Diavolezza’s mountain inn, located at Talstation Diavolezza 7504, 7504 Pontresina, Switzerland. Find out more on their webpage.
Spa Culture
St. Moritz takes its spa culture seriously, and almost every major hotel here has an award-winning in-house wellness offering. During our stay at Hotel Waldhaus Sils-Maria, we spent an afternoon at the Waldhaus Spa — pine-scented saunas, mineral-rich thermal baths, treatments that draw on the surrounding landscape in ways that feel genuinely restorative rather than gimmicky.
Inside the Waldhaus Spa at Hotel Waldhaus Sils-MariaIndulge in a rejuvenating massage or unwind in a luxurious thermal bath, drawing on the healing properties of the region’s mineral-rich waters. In fact, almost all of the hotels in the village have their own award-winning, in-house spas. The spas are modern and beautifully designed, and it’s easy to get lost in the different treatments available, from pine-scented saunas to outdoor pools.
The honest advice: don’t try to pack too much into a spa day here. Book one or two treatments, use the thermal facilities, and let the afternoon go. This is exactly the kind of indulgence a honeymoon is for.
Shopping in the old town
The old town of St. Moritz operates at a different pace from the resort areas — cobblestoned and unhurried, with painted facades and ornate balconies that look like they belong in a different century. The main pedestrian stretch, Via Serlas, runs through the heart of it: high-end boutiques sit alongside art galleries and inviting cafés, and the whole thing manages to feel curated without feeling sterile.
Confectioneries and luxury stores at the old townWhat we’d actually recommend: skip the luxury shopping (unless that’s your thing) and go straight for the food. The local bakeries and confectioneries are exceptional — the Engadin walnut tart in particular is the kind of thing you’ll think about long after you’ve left. Pair it with Swiss hot chocolate, find a table with a view, and just be somewhere for a while.
Art and History
St. Moritz also offers myriad cultural experiences for couples seeking to enrich their honeymoon in Switzerland. Immerse yourselves in Swiss landscapes at the Segantini Museum, or explore the Museum Engiadinais to delve into the region’s captivating history and traditions. The village’s vibrant arts scene, with galleries such as Hauser & Wirth showcasing contemporary works, adds a touch of creativity to your romantic escapade.
View from the Segantini MuseumThe Segantini Museum is built into the mountain landscape that inspired Giovanni Segantini’s work, which means standing inside it and looking at his paintings of the Alps, then turning to look out the window at the actual Alps, creating a quietly disorienting and rather beautiful experience.
The museum is also available as a wedding venue: ceremonies held in the light-drenched galleries or on the terrace, with the mountain panorama as backdrop. It is, genuinely, unlike anything else.
The Segantini Museum is located at Via Somplaz 30 · CH-7500 St. Moritz. Find out more about the museum via their website.
Hauser & Wirth, an internationally acclaimed gallery, has an outpost on Via Serlas that’s well worth an hour of your time, particularly if contemporary art is something you both care about. Exhibitions change regularly and the programming tends to be serious. Yummy bites and a cocktail at the bar after viewing is a must.
Hauser & Wirth is located at Via Serlas 22, 7500 St. Moritz, Switzerland. To find out more about their opening hours and exhibitions, do check out their webpage.
Horse Carriage Rides
During our stay at Hotel Waldhaus Sils-Maria, we were treated to a horse carriage ride that was one of my favourite memories. Within the Engadin Valley lies the charming Via Fex, an idyllic haven where time really seems to stand still. Amidst the breathtaking alpine scenery, our horse-drawn carriage moved along the winding roads as the gentle clip-clop of hooves resonated through the crisp air.

Santa Margarita, a Protestant chapel on a little hamlet on Fex-CrastaAlong the way, we were treated to rolling meadows covered in snow and dense forests that whisper secrets of centuries past. We also stopped at a small Protestant chapel at Fex-Crasta that sits alone in the landscape like something from a painting. The drivers know the area intimately and share the kind of local folklore and history that doesn’t make it into guidebooks. In winter, with everything blanketed in white and the only sound the rhythm of hooves on the road, it is an experience that earns the word romantic without trying.
Our horse carriage ride was provided by Coretti Kutschenfahrten. You can find out more about the services they provide via their website.
Gastronomy
From the lush alpine meadows to the quaint valleys dotted with rustic farms, Switzerland’s gastronomic culture is a testament to the harmonious relationship between nature and the plate. Whether indulging in the hearty cuisine of the German-speaking regions, savouring the delicate flavours of the French-influenced West, or exploring the rustic charm of the Italian-inspired South, the farm-to-table philosophy here isn’t a marketing angle — it’s simply how things have always been done. At the heart of this gastronomic journey lies the reverence for nature’s bounty. Swiss farmers, deeply connected to the land, cultivate their crops with meticulous care, ensuring the finest quality produce. On verdant slopes, where cows graze freely, the milk they yield becomes the basis for Switzerland’s famed cheeses, such as Gruyère and Emmental.
Paccheri with sea bass at Langosteria St. Moritz.Switzerland’s rich tapestry of farms also yields a cornucopia of fresh vegetables, tender fruits, and fragrant herbs. The culinary experts in the Swiss kitchens masterfully combine these ingredients, turning humble dishes into exquisite works of art. The connection between the land and the kitchen is palpable, infusing each bite with a sense of authenticity and purity.
Veal sausage with vegetable bouquet and rösti at Hotel Waldhaus Sils-MariaAt the Waldhaus, we had a veal sausage with rösti that was so well-executed it made us reconsider everything we thought we knew about potato pancakes. Simple, precise, completely satisfying. For something more elevated, Langosteria St. Moritz — an Italian fine-dining restaurant on the slopes of Corviglia, ski-in-ski-out — offers the kind of meal that almost warrants its own paragraph: the paccheri with sea bass was exceptional, and the combination of serious food with mountain air at altitude is an experience that feels almost absurdly pleasurable.
Langosteria St. Moritz is an Italian fine-dining ski-in-ski-out restaurant located on the slopes of the Corviglia at Chesa Chantarella, Via Salastrains 10, 7500 St Moritz, Switzerland. You can visit their website for more information.
Gorgeous resorts and hotels
When it comes to accommodations, St. Moritz leaves no desire unfulfilled. From luxurious five-star hotels exuding old-world charm to private chalets offering seclusion and intimacy, the options are as diverse as they are lavish. Revel in the opulent surroundings, where impeccable service and attention to detail create a haven of romance and relaxation. Picture waking up to panoramic views of snow-covered peaks, enjoying breakfast in bed, and embracing the blissful seclusion of your private sanctuary.
Say Yes in Switzerland!
St. Moritz rewards the couples who arrive without a rigid itinerary. The best moments here tend to be the unplanned ones — a longer lunch than expected, a detour through the old town, an afternoon that dissolves entirely into a spa and a thermal bath and a good book.
Whether you’re here for the wedding, the honeymoon, or simply to see what all the fuss has been about since 1864, St. Moritz is a destination that promises to leave an indelible mark on your heart and soul. As you gaze upon the majestic peaks and breathe in the Alpine air, you’ll understand why this enchanting town has been a cherished haven for generations of travellers seeking the extraordinary.

Getting to St. Moritz
There are several ways to get to St. Moritz from Singapore. For this trip, we flew via Swiss Air to Zürich, which took about 13 hours. From Zürich Airport, we took a four-hour SBB train journey to St. Moritz. You can expect to find 26 trains per day running on this popular route. As there aren’t any direct services running between Zurich Airport and St. Moritz, you may need to make at least one train transfer on your journey.
Upon arrival at Zürich Airport, we walked across to another wing of the building where the SBB counter was located. While waiting to pick up our Swiss Travel Passes, our luggages were collected by Swiss Public Transport to be delivered directly to our hotel in St. Moritz. We were able to enjoy a comfortable train journey after the long flight.
