Create Fairytale-like Memories at St. Moritz Switzerland
The alpine landscapes of Switzerland beckon for couples who want to embrace the enchantment of snowy nuptials. In part one of our mini-series on Switzerland, we look at the best hotels for a fairytale winter wedding at charming Engadin.
In the summer of 1864, a hotel proprietor in Switzerland was chatting with some guests from England who had travelled there for some fresh, clean air. After a couple of drinks, the hotel owner made a bet with his guests, that even in winter, Switzerland would still have this perfect, crisp weather, great for relaxing outdoors with a wonderful view of the Alps, or he would pay for their expenses. The English travellers took him up on the bet and returned to the hotel before Christmas. They stayed all the way until Easter.
The hotel owner was Johannes Badrutt. The hotel, the first of its kind in St. Moritz and overlooking the Swiss Alps, was Kulm Hotel, And that, word has it, was the start of all-year resorts and winter tourism in Switzerland after news of this delightful experience spread amongst other European aristocrats.
St. Moritz – A vision in white

Getting to St. Moritz
For this trip, we flew via Swiss Air from Singapore to Zürich, which took about 13 hours. From Zürich Airport, the train to St. Moritz takes approximately 4 hours. You can expect to find 26 trains per day running on this popular route. As there aren’t any direct services running between Zurich Airport and St. Moritz, you may need to make at least one train transfer on your journey. SBB is the main train operator on this route.
Upon arrival at Zürich Airport, we walked across to another wing of the building where the SBB counter was located. While waiting to pick up our Swiss Travel Passes, our luggages were collected by Swiss Public Transport to be delivered directly to our hotel in St. Moritz. We were able to enjoy a comfortable train journey after the long flight.
