Crystal and Jun’s Magical Underwater Wedding at S.E.A. Aquarium
Crystal and Jun tied the knot in a magical S.E.A. Aquarium wedding filled with glittering fairy lights and dancing fish.
To recreate their dream fairytale wedding, Lim Li Xian, Crystal, 27, Special Needs Educator, and Chong Jun, 30, Tennis Coach, turned the S.E.A. aquarium into a glittering underwater fairytale. With the manta rays and fish frolicking all around them, the couple walked down an aisle lined with DIY candles and exchanged vows under magical fairy lights on 6 September 2022.
How did you first meet each other?
Crystal: A mutual friend felt that our personalities and characters were similar and she decided to do a little matchmaking. She showed Jun my instagram and I guess he liked what he saw,and he sent me a text.
What do you love most about your partner?
Crystal: There are a lot of qualities I love about him but if I had to pick one, it would be that he has a good heart. He is the type of man who tends to say things that make him seem tough, but he is actually a softie. I don’t think I can tell you a definite answer to what made me fall in love with him. It’s all the little things that were done consistently. For example, he always makes an effort to put my happiness first, cooks me random food, does intensive research before he brings me to a restaurant or buys me a gift. Most importantly, whenever I am with him, I feel safe. He feels like home.
Jun: I love that she always thinks of others and is very caring, helpful, and hardworking, and always puts family first. She is a very strong and disciplined woman despite looking so adorable; she never takes MCs at work, wakes up at 4.45am every day to travel to work by 6.30am, and tries to sleep every night by 9.30pm as well as completes house chores.. Despite all that, she still manages to have a happy mood 99% of the time. It is incredible. Every time I see her it just puts a smile on my face, maybe because I always make her do funny faces or voices hahaha. Anyway, I think it is hard to pinpoint what you like most about a person, if you love someone enough to marry them, it’ll be what you dislike most instead because you’ll already love 99% of everything about him/her the most.
What was the proposal like?
Crystal: It was during the Covid period so the proposal was simple yet intimate. We had a staycation during my birthday weekend so I really wasn’t suspecting anything more than a birthday celebration. Our friends came over to help with the decoration of the room while we were out and when we came back, I was shocked, analysing the room without processing what was about to happen. I had always wanted a “huge” proposal but as cliche as it sounds, when it happened, it was perfect. It is true when they say that it doesn’t matter where or how it happens, as long as it is with the right person.
How did you plan your wedding?
Crystal: We used SingaporeBrides when we planned our wedding. We looked through all the hotels and ballrooms that were available. Also, we learnt more about the Chinese traditions and customs that we had to follow, which was one of the hardest parts of the wedding.
Initially we had planned to get married in Japan Disneyland, however, due to Covid, we weren’t able to. Hence, to fulfil my dream wedding, we worked towards creating a wedding with a Disney vibe. However, we did not believe that we had to spend a ton of money to create the vision we had, hence, we discussed and brainstormed on the decorations that we were able to DIY. For example, we decorated the aisle with “candles” handmade with laminating sheets, newspaper and small LED candles as well as other DIY items. Furthermore, to keep our Disney theme, our wedding songs and childhood montage were filled with Disney songs and gifs. We only paid extra for the S.E.A. aquarium to be filled with fairy lights and explosive balloons.
What was your wedding day like?
Crystal: Despite all the rush and hiccups along the way, I am thankful that our wedding day was as magical as I wanted it to be. The few seconds I had before we had to walk down the steps, I managed to take in that beautiful scene where we had everyone we loved around us, the place was bright with lights all around, the beautiful petals on the floor along with the huge aquarium… but most importantly, I am holding the arm of someone I want to spend the rest of my life with.. the feeling I felt at that moment was beyond what words can describe. I could not have asked for a better wedding.
Jun: I expected myself to be nervous but I wasn’t. Maybe because there was no gate crash. However, there were stilla couple of games that I had to play and it felt awkward playing with so many people staring at you. It also felt very strange with a photographer following us everywhere. One of the best things to me was the amazing hotel room where I could see the fishes 24/7 and the manta rays somersaulting every few minutes. The food provided by the hotel was amazing as well. I was very amused at my wife as she was so happy and that really brought a smile to my face and made me more relaxed.
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Crystal: The most memorable moment of the wedding was when my father handed me over to Jun and said, “ I am handing my daughter over to you. Please take good care of her.” At that moment, hearing those words from my father who usually doesn’t express himself much, I felt both touched and sad at the same time.
Jun: The most memorable moment for me was taking a very long time to pop the champagne. It was incredibly tight, and my thumb was in so much pain.
