Justina and Yiming’s Cosy Lawn Solemnisation and Wedding at Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore

Justina and Yiming married in an intimate celebration with their families at Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore.
Justina and Yiming first met in junior college while volunteering as camp facilitators. Although they knew they had feelings for each other, they chose not to pursue it then. Fate brought them together again more than a decade later, and as they reconnected, they realised the spark they had back then was still very much alive. Knowing that they had found their soul mates, the pair sealed the deal in an intimate celebration with a lawn solemnisation and dinner reception at Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore.

Tell us how you met.
Both: We met in junior college while volunteering as camp facilitators. Back in those days where there were no social media platforms or mobile data plans, we spent hours texting each other late into the night until we busted our SMS limits! While we both knew we had feelings for each other, we didn’t pursue it back then.
12 years later, we reconnected and realised that we both kept the group photo we took together back then, and it was evident that we still had a special spot for each other in our hearts.

What drew you to each other?
Both: We found it rare that we were able to talk to each other endlessly and connect effortlessly after 12 years, especially since we have met our fair share of people and experiences. So, we knew this was extremely hard to come by and something worth treasuring. And especially after we’ve been through several difficult relationships, our companionship felt like a breath of fresh air that was carefree and pure.

What is it about your partner that you love the most.
Justina: I love that Yiming is unwavering in his love and dedication despite the trials we have experienced throughout some of life’s major events such as getting married, planning a wedding, and buying a house together. He never fails to show up whenever I need his presence or support.
Yiming: I love that she has a big heart and always finds it in her to forgive.

What was the proposal like?
Justina: We both thought that marriage is an important event so we established that we wanted to work towards marriage from the beginning. There wasn’t really a surprise as we had the wedding planned and knew it was coming. The surprise was the bouquet of 99 roses that Yiming bought for me and brought it while we were having a staycation at Oasia Hotel Downtown. He is usually very conservative with his spending and not a fan of big gestures, so the splurge on the flowers really touched me. The staff at the hotel took some lovely photos for us to commemorate the day even though it was private and not a coordinated effort with them. Kudos to their great service.

Tell us about your wedding. What was your planning journey like?
Justina: Our wedding was planned in an insanely short amount of time, around two months before the actual day. I wanted a golf course solemnisation and it was by a stroke of good luck that we had the Saturday evening available at Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore. It seemed like everything fell into place on its own, and the hotel is now one of our favourite hotels!
Although we didn’t have a specific theme, I decided to ditch the white gown and go with a red outfit as it is a more auspicious colour for weddings according to Chinese customs. For our solemnisation, I wore a floral dress to complement the lawn setting.

What was your wedding day like?
Although there were some hiccups along the way and it felt very rushed, we both thoroughly enjoyed looking great, the good food, music and awesome weather. It had rained consecutively for two weeks prior to the wedding, so we were blessed when we had a beautiful, clear sky that allowed us to proceed with our lawn solemnisation and get some outdoor shots. Since the weather is an element that you cannot control regardless of how much planning you’ve done, I felt really lucky for the good weather that day.

What did your family/friends have to say about your wedding day?
They absolutely enjoyed themselves! They loved the band, the atmosphere, and commented that the food was top-notch. They even enjoyed the wine. I highly recommend splurging on these three areas, as it is what your guests will enjoy and remember your celebration by the most.
Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Justina: When I sprung a surprise and got Yiming to sing live with the band. I think he secretly enjoyed stealing the show for a couple of minutes.

What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples.
Don’t follow trends blindly and go with what you think is representative of you and what you enjoy as your memories of the day are more important than that of anyone else’s.
