Jo Ting and Ben’s Vibrant and Playful Wedding at InterContinental Singapore

Jo Ting and Ben’s beautiful InterContinental Singapore wedding was playfully styled with vibrant floating flowers and disco balls.

Jo Ting, 30, Business Development Manager, and Ben Suon, 40, Manager in the tech industry, realised they were both describing each other when a friend asked about their ideal partners, and started dating right away! The couple got married in a beautiful wedding filled with floating florals and disco balls at InterContinental Singapore on 17 July 2022.

How did you meet each other?

Jo Ting: We got to know each other from working in the same company. Both of us were in the commercial business unit but from different teams. On the first day of work, I met Ben. It wasn’t love at first sight. But over the next couple of months, we hung out in a group and got to know each other a little bit better.

One night, while in a car to a bar, a friend asked the group about our ideal types and commented that we were literally describing each other and should totally date. We started holding hands the same night (efficient much?) and going out on dates, and well, that was it! Office romance with a colleague.

What do you love most about your partner?

Ben: It’s easy to be around Jo Ting since we have a similar level of humour. I can truly be myself whenever I’m around her. She is also someone who is attentive to little details, and it’s really those little actions that added up and made me fall in love with her. The bonus–she stays near me, 5 minute-ish drive away. Boom! Done deal.

Jo Ting: I knew that Ben was the one when I realised that falling for him wasn’t falling at all–it’s like walking into a house and knowing you’re home. Above all, I love how thoughtful and passionate Ben is with everything that he does. And oh, he’s incredibly funny, as you can tell from this interview.

What was the proposal like?

Ben: It was Jo’s birthday and I had planned a staycation at Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa. I placed the ring on top of the birthday cake and planned to propose when we were cutting the cake. Plot twist: she fell asleep while waiting for me to bathe. Hence, the proposal was postponed to the following day.

Jo Ting: Ben insisted that we have some tea and cake at the balcony. I was busy taking pictures of the sea view when I spotted the gem on top of the cake. The whole proposal was so true to our personalities–funny. I remembered thinking to myself on the first night: Ben is not going to propose since he told me that we don’t have any plans after dinner and it’s okay to remove my makeup–despite me asking TWICE..

What was your wedding day like?

Jo: Truly. Enjoyable. For me, I had always known that I wanted a wedding where my friends and family could sit down, enjoy their food, and celebrate our love with us instead of running errands on our behalf. I’m so glad Michelle and team from Arches and Co. made that happen for us. The team took care of all the details which allowed us to have so much  fun at our wedding. We even had the time to interact with our guests.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Ben: To actually be married to the person I love, in a beautiful venue and setting, with close family and friends, it was truly the most memorable part for me. And because I didn’t eat and had too much alcohol, I couldn’t remember how and when we saw our guests out. It was pretty amusing to see pictures with friends that I didn’t recall taking.

Jo Ting: For me, the most memorable moment was when I saw the decorations at the InterContinental Singapore stairs! I almost teared simply because it’s a dream come true. I had told Michelle that I wanted “floating flowers” for my wedding and she told me to trust Fellow Folks to create some magic; I’m glad I did! Brendan was also the one who suggested that we solemnise in front of InterContinental Singapore’s iconic stairs.
