Wai San and Si Wei’s Intimate Wedding at Floral Fantasy
Wai San and Si Wei celebrated their love in an intimate wedding at Floral Fantasy, witnessed by their nearest and dearest.
Chey Wai San, 30, Planner, said yes to Ong Si Wei, 33, Engineer in a not-so-surprise proposal atop a mountain in New Zealand in front of stunning views of Lake Wanaka. The couple tied the knot in a very intimate wedding on 1 December 2021 at Floral Fantasy, Gardens by the Bay, under the beautiful floral installations.
How did you meet each other?
Si Wei:We met each other at work. She joined the company a few months after me. I was working on a project at that time, and she came onboard later. At that time, we were just colleagues working on the same project. I didn’t develop any special feelings for her at first.
It was only after some time of interaction when I got to know her better that I realised her charms and got attracted to her. I started texting her out of work and asked her out for a date after a while. We went for a dinner and movie date after work for our first date. We had a few more dates after that until one day I finally got the courage to ask her to be my girlfriend.
What do you love most about your partner?
Si Wei: She is such a joy to be with. I love her jokes, how she always manages to lighten the mood and make me laugh. I love the care and comfort that she gives, supporting and giving me plenty of advice throughout my career and life decisions. I love the way she lets me be myself, accepting my imperfections and making up for my weaknesses.
Wai San: He is a reliable and detailed person, making me feel safe whenever I am with him. I think what attracted me the most is the first impression I had on him is completely different from who he really is. He likes to laugh a lot and sometimes, he can be crazier than me.
What was the proposal like?
Si Wei: I proposed to her while we were on a two-week road trip in South New Zealand back in 2019. I wanted the proposal to be intimate with just the two of us, so proposing while traveling with her felt like the right time.
When we were in Wanaka, we took a pre-booked helicopter flight with Wanaka Helicopters up to the top of Coromandel Peak in the morning, and I proposed to her facing the romantic view of Lake Wanaka. She had kind of already guessed that I would pop the question at that time, so it wasn’t much of a surprise for her. We still enjoyed the amazing views though.
Did COVID-19 affect your wedding plans?
We had initially wanted to have an elopement, so COVID-19 was a spoiler. However, we were glad that we ended up hosting an intimate wedding reception with our immediate family members and close friends as it was very heartwarming to receive their blessings as they witnessed our special moment.
What was your wedding theme and how did you create it?
Si Wei: There was no specific theme for our wedding. Wai San chose Floral Fantasy as our solemnisation venue because she is a flower lover and we were amazed by the fantastical flower decorations. It was like a fairy tale to be able to get married there. The area with the hanging flowers was such a perfect place for our walk-in. In addition, with the beautiful background, we did not spend a lot on wedding decorations.
What was your wedding day like?
Time passed very fast during our wedding day. The solemnisation ceremony and wedding reception were completed before we knew it. Thankfully, it being a small wedding with just our immediate family members and close friends, we were able to maximise interaction with our guests. We were really grateful to our guests who specially took leave to attend our wedding ceremony on a weekday and give us their blessings.
Kevin from Dapper Pictures did a great job of capturing all the precious moments. We also managed to have a few short photoshoot sessions around the venue. We kind of regret that we didn’t factor in more time to have longer photoshoot sessions in Floral Fantasy though, as the venue was so beautiful and perfect.
We are also very thankful to Sharon from Gardens by the Bay. She was a great help in our wedding planning, accommodating to our requests, keeping us up to date with the latest Covid-19 regulations, and providing us with many useful suggestions. On the actual day, she was present with her team to help us coordinate the events.
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Si Wei: When we were exchanging our vows, and she promised to cook for me.
Wai San: During the walk in, when I was walking down the aisle hand-in-hand with my husband-to-be, surrounded by all the pretty flowers, celebrating the special moment with our family members and close friends.
