Geraldine and Sheldon’s Elegant Solemnisation at VUE at OUE Bayfront
Geraldine and Sheldon held an elegant solemnisation at VUE at OUE Bayfront, witnessed by their immediate families.
Geraldine, 28, Marketing Communications Specialist, and Sheldon, 31, Head of Commercial, didn’t want to cut anyone from their wedding guest list, so the couple decided to hold a very intimate and elegant solemnisation with just their immediate family members at VUE at OUE Bayfront on 27 February 2021.
How did you meet?
Geraldine: Sheldon was a senior in my university, whom I’ve actually never met or even heard of until the day when he decided to reach out to me after he graduated. You could say we actually met via university instead of in university.
During that time, I was part of our university’s wine society interest group and had a special sake tasting event planned which was open for registration. Sheldon invited a couple of his friends to come along and show some support. It was quite funny how they turned out to be the only graduated seniors at the event. We started going out soon after the event.
What made you fall in love with your partner?
Sheldon: Geraldine is very accepting of who I am, as well as our individual flaws and differences. She also used to be really afraid of dogs but she loved my dog Muffin to bits very shortly after meeting her. It was probably love at first sight for the both of them.
Geraldine: We’ve been together for over six years now and Sheldon has been my parachute through it all. He’s always capable of offering up solutions to all my problems or worries, keeping me stress-free. It’s also amazing how well we read each other’s minds and complete each other’s sentences all the time.
Did COVID-19 affect your wedding plans?
Ideally, we would have wanted our solemnisation and wedding reception to be on the same day to celebrate with all our family and friends. However, COVID-19 happened and with all the restrictions in place, we didn’t want to have to exclude any of our family or friends from celebrating with us, or expose the elderly to any potential risk or inconvenience. So we decided to proceed with an intimate solemnisation with only a handful of family members first.
Tell us about your solemnisation.
We held our intimate solemnisation at the private dining room of VUE @ OUE Bayfront. We loved the elegant and classy ambience of the restaurant from the moment we stepped out of the elevator on the top floor and were greeted by the amazing view overlooking Marina Bay Sands and Singapore Flyer.
Geraldine: I took advantage of the fact that this was not our actual wedding to wear a tailored navy satin cheongsam from Mamaandmisse to match Sheldon’s tailored navy suit from Lai En tailors instead of a traditional white wedding gown. For fear of our outfits looking too dark, the lining of my cheongsam was intentionally chosen to be in a bright shade of red, accompanied with white buttons with red floral patterns. In terms of makeup and hairstyling, I trusted Tiffany from TiffiningBeauty to create a glamorous Hollywood look with red lips. To top it all off, the blooms on my hand bouquet are also red African roses and eucalyptus (our favorite scent!).
The colour theme we went for was navy blue, red, and white, which we thought really complemented the ambience of VUE. We also went with our bubbly photographer, Yuan Xiu from notpixelated as we liked the darker mood of her photography style and edits.
What was the most memorable moment of your solemnisation?
Sheldon: Our fingers were probably trembling with nerves that day; we struggled a little as we were putting on our wedding bands for each other at that very crucial moment. Everyone broke out in laughter in the background so I guess we lightened the mood in the room.
Geraldine: The most memorable moment for me was reading out loud the vows I wrote just the night before. As I was writing my vows the night before, I realised that our solemnisation day was actually the 6th year, 6th month and 6th day since we our first date. Sheldon didn’t know this of course, and I was looking forward to his reaction when he heard me read my vows. He was so surprised! This made our solemnisation date extra meaningful.
Last but not least, the food at VUE was so good, and everyone left with a happy tummy!
