Drusilla and Andy’s Heartfelt Solemnisation at Botanico At The Garage

COVID-19 unceremoniously cancelled their wedding but this couple still has memories from their solemnisation at Botanico to fall back on.

Drusilla and Andy were very excited about their May 30 2020 wedding, but it had to be cancelled because of COVID-19. Thankfully, they were able to proceed with their cosy solemnisation party at Botanico at the Garage with photos taken by Antelope Studios before community spread and the implementation of tighter safety measures occurred.

How did the two of you meet?

Drusilla: We were secondary school friends. Both of us were among a clique of 20 other friends that are still very closely-knit after all these years. We didn’t develop any liking towards each other all those 12 years until he came back from studying overseas. We began to meet up occasionally in smaller groups and that’s how Andy started noticing me more.

What drew you to each other?

Andy: Her independence, strong will, pure heart and bubbly character. She’s a chatterbox.

Drusilla: He is a very thoughtful person, which I feel its quite rare among guys!

What is it about your partner that you love the most?

Andy: Dru is kind, thoughtful, considerate, honest, funky, easygoing, always shows affection and lots of acts of service. She will definitely be a good mother and wife.

Drusilla: He loves his family, he’s responsible and 101% loyal to the relationship, always giving in to me and never once giving up on us. And on top of this, he makes me laugh a lot!

Was there a moment when you knew that he/she was the one?

Drusilla: When we started dating, we spend a lot of time knowing each other and we both see a future with each other as life partners.

What was the proposal like?

Drusilla: Andy proposed to me on my birthday last year in Japan at a quiet park that has a great view of Mount Fuji.

What was the wedding planning journey like?

Drusilla: I was initially very lost on how to go about starting it but it was the best decision to engage our wedding planners, Peiyen and Caroline. They simply guided us throughout and kept reminding us about tasks to do–both Andy and I are quite hands-off. What made it smooth was Andy being very easy-going in everything, hence I made most of the decisions, which means no conflicts!

I used the SingaporeBrides website a lot to search for vendors as there is a whole extensive list of everything from photography, videography, make-up artists and venue recommendations.

Unfortunately, our actual day wedding was supposed to be on 30 May 2020 but it had to be postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19 and we have losses for the deposits that could not be refunded. The last few months were stressful as we didn’t know whether we could still proceed. We finally knew that it was impossible for the wedding to happen when the government announced the Circuit Breaker.

What made you choose Botanico as your wedding venue?

Drusilla: I wanted a cozy venue that has an outdoor area to exchange our vows and it had to be Botanico because their outdoor patio is air-conditioned–a plus point for Singapore’s weather–and has a see-through overhead shelter that doesn’t compromise the outdoor vibes but is less of a worry if it rains.

What was your wedding day like?

Drusilla: Time really went past very quickly. But I really loved that all our close family and friends were there to celebrate with us.

How did you create and decide on your wedding theme?

Drusilla: I love the look of pampas and warm hues and I’m very glad the look turned out to be exactly what I had envisioned, all thanks to our florist Florals By Benita. She totally understood what I wanted.

What was the experience like working with Antelope Studios?

Drusilla: Bryan is very friendly and is very experienced, so he was able to take the best shots of us. I like that he is a good friend with our videographer Matt, so it was really fun “working” with them that day.

What did your friends and family say about your wedding?

Drusilla: My mother-in-law initially felt that it was unnecessary to do a separate solemnisation event but after that day, she told me she understood why I had wanted to do it. She felt it was a very intimate and enjoyable occasion.

Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding.

Drusilla: I loved our vows exchange because both Andy and I were very heartfelt with our words to each other. It was a very touching moment for us.

What is one piece of advice you’d like to share with other couples who are also in the midst of planning their wedding?

Drusilla: Plan early so that you will not have limited options for venues and vendors. I had this problem because a couple of venues and vendors I wanted had already been booked.
