Michelin Star Weddings at Alma by Juan Amador
If you’re a foodie and hosting your wedding at a Michelin-starred restaurant has been on your mind for a while, we’ve got great news for you. Alma by Juan Amador is very approachable and serves excellent fusion cuisine that all your guests can definitely appreciate.
The man who lends his name to the restaurant, Juan Amador, is sometimes described as the best chef in the world. He is of Spanish descent, but he honed his skills in Germany, which was where he earned his first Michelin star. Marrying his Spanish roots and his sharp sense of aesthetics, Juan Amador’s signature style can be seen in the dishes he creates, and he would later go on to achieve three Michelin stars in 2011, an outstanding culinary achievement for any chef.
Alma by Juan Amador, situated at Goodwood Park Hotel, is helmed by Executive Chef Haikal Johari, who brings with him a distinguished culinary career from all over the region. This results in the menu you will see at Alma, which is made up of the freshest ingredients, infused with the Asian flavours that you are familiar with. Alma received its first Michelin star in 2016 and has kept it for three consecutive years.

We were invited to taste a few dishes from their lunch menu, which starts at an affordable $39++. The interior of the restaurant was minimally furnished, with crisp, white table linen as seen in all fine-dining restaurants, and accented with red pillars and avant-garde art pieces. The restaurant can host a wedding of up to 100 guests. What was more interesting for me were the two private rooms, The Cellar, and the Wine Library. If you’re looking to have an intimate do, and great food and wine is a deal-breaker, then this is it. As one of the biggest American wine importers in Singapore, wine lovers can find excellent rated wines, as well as a prized collection of Screaming Eagle wines, which are a highly rated cult brand produced in Napa Valley.

The gazpacho was sweet, tangy, and savoury at the same time, which was a refreshing appetiser to start the meal with. We were also pleasantly surprised by the homemade tofu. The skin was deep fried to perfection, and there is no faulting the rich foie gras emulsion that complements the gentle texture of the tofu.
The hearty cod fish from the coast of Brittany was paired with subtle Japanese flavours, while the lamb was served with fragrant spiced curry. This, perhaps, was Executive Chef Johari’s playful and direct way of showcasing an East-Meets-West menu.
