Geraldine and Kenny’s Pinterest-Worthy White and Green Wedding at The Chapel @ Imaginarium

Geraldine and Kenny’s gorgeous organic inspired white and green décor is to die for!

Although Geraldine Tan, 28, and her husband, Kenny Foong, 32, used to work in the same advertising firm, it took a game of badminton to get them talking. But once they did, fate took over and attraction blossomed into friendship and love. Read about their hilarious proposal in Europe, where Geraldine almost jumped into a river, and their awe-inspiring organic inspired white and green wedding at The Chapel @ Imaginarium here!

What drew you to each other, and what do you love about your partner?

Geraldine: As we’re both in Advertising, we had a lot to talk about. He’s fun loving, sporty and easy-going. I love going on adventures, and he’s always up for it. Also, he’s one of the most filial guy you’ll ever meet!

Kenny: During our first month together, I randomly brought up an idea to visit the UK together. It wasn’t an easy decision but she spontaneously agreed to it. That attitude of hers makes me excited to see how much joy this girl can bring to my life. Besides that, she is also kind, filial and very decisive (other than making decisions for meals).

Tell us about your proposal! Why did you almost jump into a river?

It was hilarious! As we were strolling down the river in Hallstatt, Austria, I found an empty spot at the backyard of a church and thought to myself, “What a perfect backdrop for photo taking!”. He then took this chance to set up the tripod and set the camera to video mode. I was just posing, waiting for him to set the timer. While walking towards me, he pretended to trip and throw ring into the river. I panicked and thought this is going on Stomp for sure. After a good five minutes of me wanting to jump into the river (the water is not deep), he calmed me down by pulling out the actual ring from his pocket. As it turned out, the ring he threw into the river as a $5 ring he bought from Lucky Plaza. He then popped the question on one knee, and I said yes.

What was your wedding planning journey like?

The wedding was fun but all the planning was quite stressful. Both being art based, we have very different styles. However, we concluded that the wedding is for both of us and some compromise were made to smoothen the flow. We split up the work and do what we each do best. There’s bound to be some hiccups here and there, just bear in mind to always be honest and open to each other throughout the entire process.

We chose to wed at The Chapel @ Imaginarium because we loved their clean, high-ceiling, pillar-less and minimalist look. For our theme, we chose to go with the organic and earthy look, with a natural white and green color palette for the overall theme. We love the simplicity, the romance and softness of it all. Throughout the entire creation process, we worked very closely with the all vendors we engaged. And of course, a big thank you to the creator of Pinterest too!

Take us back to your wedding day. What was the day like and how were you feeling?

We were so nervous that we couldn’t sleep the night before! There were some delays at the initial part of the ceremony, but everything turned out fine soon after. We had our tea ceremony, march-in, toasting, speech and did our best to talk to as many guest as we could. Time flew by so quickly! The whole experience was honestly surreal, and it felt like a we’re in a dream. We kept reminding ourselves to be in the moment and to not panic, that it was perfectly okay to feel a bit in awe of everything and everyone who is present.

We also received many positive feedbacks from our guests, from the food, our outfits and hairdo, to the venue and wedding décor.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Geraldine: The most memorable moment has got to be the march-in. I never thought I would be so emotional but there was this very strange yet special feeling when I walked through the door. Something I have never felt before. I was nervous and scared, yet overjoyed beyond anything. It was amazing. I remember thinking, “Is this really happening?” Then, when I saw Kenny standing at the end of the aisle as I walked down with my mother, I started tearing. I couldn’t believe that I was finally marrying this wonderful man.

Kenny: It’s got to be the march-in. The realisation that she deserved every bit of this planning. Although the duration of the entire wedding wasn’t as long as the usual hotel banquet wedding, we had a lot of fun and I’m glad it turned out the way we both wanted.

What is one lesson you’ve learnt from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?

Always remember to listen and manage each other’s expectation (especially the families). Be very decisive on the guest list and don’t be pressured if you’re planning a small, intimate wedding.
