A Summertime Pastel Romance Styled Shoot at The Summerhouse
Be prepared to be romanced by elegant architecture and sweet blooms in soft, muted colours at one of Singapore’s newest unique concept restaurant, The Summerhouse.
Sometime late in July, we returned to the delightfully picturesque Oval @ Seletar Aerospace Park for an exciting styled shoot at the majestic The Summerhouse with wedding creatives KAI Picture, The Wedding Stylist, CC Lee Designs, CUPPLETS, Papypress and Little Miss Hobnob, featuring beautiful handmade headpieces from Luisa Vass. We were so in love with the styling our creative teams put together that we simply couldn’t wait another moment to show you what we were up to that day!
Owned by 1-Group, The Summerhouse resides in a stately heritage black-and-white bungalow and occupies a sprawling 44,000 square feet of space, including an outdoor edible garden and a beautiful courtyard with a romantic dome-shaped, lattice gazebo perfect for a dreamy solemnisation under the stars. The talented team behind CC Lee Designs dressed the black-framed gazebo with an assortment of artificial silk flowers like cherry blossoms, peonies and roses in soft, muted colours of blush and white that accentuates the structure’s romantic allure.
“To ensure that the floral decoration remains pristine and intact out in the open and under the hot sun for an extended period of time, we decided to go with artificial flowers as fresh blooms are unable to withstand the handling and trauma and will definitely wilt before we can even begin,” Jessica from CC Lee Designs explains.
Diamanté and Gold Leaf HeaddressPearl Floral Side HeadpieceSurrounded by a charming expanse of greenery and unblocked by any nearby buildings, The Summerhouse is blessed with an abundance of sunlight during the day, and enjoys the cooling evening breeze and romantic lights of the star-filled night sky and surrounding fairylights after dark. We were thankful that the sun was out to play during our shoot and provided us with a generous amount of sunlight that seeped indoors, creating an intriguing shadow play on the ground.
The artistic shadows of the surrounding pottery provided Kai from KAI Picture with a unique opportunity to capture detail shots of the wedding invite and menu card by Papypress and handcrafted headpieces by London-based Luisa Vass who specialises in handmade hats and headpieces for weddings and events.
For the roomy and elegant dining room on Level Two, The Wedding Stylist and CC Lee Designs teams envisioned an opulent setting with lush standing and low floral installations in the same sweet hues as the blooms that adorn the outdoor gazebo to pay homage to the colonial heritage and grandeur of the building. To bring their vision to life, CC Lee Designs used a mixture of artificial and fresh flowers to create a lush setting filled with seasonal blooms like cherry blossoms and peonies.
Parallel to the long couch seating at the end of the dining room, a VIP table was set up for the newlyweds and their parents, and decked out in a luxurious floral table runner and romantic candles. A lone matching floral runner decorates the wall at the back, keeping things simple so the blooms can stand out.
“For couples who have budget constraints, we would suggest using a mixture of artificial and fresh flowers for hanging installations and stage decoration, and recommend using only fresh flowers for table floral centerpieces as these are closer to the guests,” Jessica advises.
The eclectic mix of vintage China from Little Miss Hobnob provided the perfect contrast to the dreamy floral installations, contemporary gold-foiled pink marbled wedding menu and place cards by Papypress and the dining room’s modern architecture.
The adjoining outdoor Balcony Bar can be used to house more guests, host a wedding reception or set up a dessert table, which was what we chose to do with that beautiful space. Using The Summerhouse’s iconic bar counter with charming geometric black and white designs, Samantha from CUPPLETS set up a decadent dessert spread featuring an imposing 3-tier wedding cake with 3D buttercream flowers, mini donuts and cupcakes, cookies and pastel watercoloured macarons.
