Samantha and Yan Ming’s Peranakan Travel-Themed Wedding at IndoCafe The White House
Travel enthusiasts and soulmates Samantha and Yan Ming found love in the skies and tied the knot in a cosy affair at IndoCafe The White House.
Samantha, 30, and Yan Ming’s, 31, love story is the stuff romance novels and dramas are made of. The pair met on board their first flight to Queensland, Australia, and went on their first date eight months later. With a mutual love for travelling, the happy duo explored the world and went on new adventures together. Needless to say, as travel fanatics, it was only natural for Yan Ming to propose to Samantha outside of Singapore. And on 21 June 2016, the lovebirds finally tied the knot in an intimate Peranakan travel-themed celebration at IndoCafe The White House.
Share with us how you proposed to Samantha.
Yan Ming: I planned to propose while we were holidaying in Bangkok, Thailand. I arranged for a surprise dinner and managed to convince Samantha that it was a celebration of our dating anniversary. I went down on one knee and popped the question after dinner.
What was your wedding planning journey like?
We wanted our wedding to be an intimate affair different from that of a hotel wedding, so we decided on the elegant and culturally rich IndoCafe The White House. The restored colonial house was the perfect venue for us – unique and cosy. We opted for a world travel theme for our big day with a vintage approach to complement the colonial and Peranakan vibe of the restaurant.
Like most couples, the biggest challenge we faced was time, especially when we had to plan everything within four months. So, we engaged wedding planner Perfect Unity to help with our planning and conceptualisation of our theme.
What was your actual day like?
Everything went well with a slight hiccup. It started to drizzle lightly about an hour before our solemnisation and we were faced with the decision of bringing our solemnisation indoors or going ahead with our initial plans. We decided to stick to our initial plans and thankfully, the sky cleared up just before our solemnisation started.
Did your family and friends enjoy the celebration?
They did! They liked that the venue was nicely decorated and cosy. They also had plenty of fun taking photos and interacting with us throughout the evening – which was what we had wanted for our guests.
