Elisha and Tony’s Captivating Intimate Soiree at Alkaff Mansion
Elisha and Tony tied the knot in a beautiful, intimate wedding celebration at the elegant Alkaff Mansion.
It was six years ago when Elisha Lim met her husband Tony New at work. Little did she know that when she kindly offered to be his tour guide and show him around town, she would end up falling for his charm and humour. After a private romantic proposal along the beaches of Durban, South Africa, the Johannesburg-based couple returned to Singapore for their wedding at the beautifully restored colonial bungalow, Alkaff Mansion, on 13 December 2015.
How did Tony propose?
Elisha: We are living in Johannesburg, South Africa now. Last April, we went down to the beautiful beaches of Durban for a short holiday. We were just strolling along a beautiful beach when he suddenly went down on one knee on a high sand dune. I immediately knew what he was doing and the legend has it that, even before he finished his “Will you marry me?”, I had already said “Yes!!!”.
Straight after, he went back to his car to fetch the bottle of champagne from an ice box and we “clinked” our glasses, celebrating on a secluded beach with sea breeze in our faces.
Since you’re based overseas, how did you plan for your wedding in Singapore? What challenges did you face in your planning?
Wedding planning was very challenging as I was living overseas. I did not have much time to look at many venues before deciding on one and definitely could not be as hands on as I would like to have been. A lot of the times, I had to ask my bridesmaids or family to check out venues or sample the wedding cake. I was not too fussed about having a “perfect” wedding but it was still quite challenging arranging it long distance.
What was your actual day like?
As we had family over from the United Kingdom, we were both quite busy entertaining and had lots of last minute work to do the night before. I slept very little the night before the big day so I was quite tired but ran on adrenaline. However, everything ran smoothly and I literally had the best day of my life. Our families and friends also enjoyed themselves at the wedding – the food, set-up and celebration! They were also quite inebriated during the wedding, which made the celebration a very cosy and enjoyable one.

The most memorable part was when we made our speeches and both Tony and I gave emotional and yet superbly funny speeches that was heartfelt and yet entertaining to our family and friends.
