The Z Wedding for Watabe Wedding Chijmes Runway Show 2016 debuted on 30 March 2016 in an exclusive media showcase full of gowns that pay tribute to the stunning Chijmes Hall.
Inspired by the striking 19th century neo-gothic architecture of CHIJMES Hall, Z Wedding collaborated with Watabe Wedding Chijmes to create a collection that pays homage to the historic chapel’s dramatic elegance.
A National Monument of Singapore, CHIJMES Hall was built over a hundred years ago in the neo-gothic style and sensitively restored to its former glory in the 1990s. The grand old chapel’s architecture is characterised by dramatic arches, intricately carved motifs on its capital columns, and regal stained glass windows. The hall’s original five-storey spire and flying buttresses strike an imposing silhouette on the skyline, while the interiors’ sculpted arches and elegant chandeliers create a magnificent venue perfect for a grand wedding celebration, as the Z Wedding for Watabe Wedding Chijmes Runway Show proved.
Packed almost to the rafters—or in this case, the gothic rib vaults—with local celebrities, media, and social influencers, CHIJMES Hall was abuzz before the show. The long runway running the length of the stunning hall gave brides a glimpse of their own grand wedding celebrations, where family and friends would cheer them walking down the aisle.
The iconic building’s beautiful architectural features are reflected in the gowns with their striking silhouettes and ornate detailing. Criss-cross lace echo the latticework in the arched stained glass windows, and intricate floral applique pick up on the elaborately carved bird and floral motifs on the capital columns. Beautiful contrast piping mimic the lines etched on the pillars, and backs evoke the ornately etched windows with baroque lace and clean, arched lines of tulle and satin. Peplums and ruffles add drama to grand ball gown skirts that are layered with patterned tulle and lace. High, bejewelled crowns add the final touch of glamour to the Z Wedding for Watabe Wedding Chijmes Runway Show, highlighting the grandeur of the wedding collection.
