Wedding invitations today are more than just mass-printed cards bearing the good news of your nuptials. Many couples are opting to customise their wedding invites to offer their guests a glimpse of their story as a couple and what their wedding will be like. And getting to know her couples and their plans for their big day is exactly what Pearlyn loves about her job as a bespoke wedding stationer.
Pearlyn’s love for the creative stems from her parents. Growing up around a mother who loved handcrafting ceramic dolls and flowers, and a father who was an avid painter and model hobbyist, it’s no wonder Pearlyn developed a passion for the arts and pursued the designing of wedding stationery while working full-time elsewhere. Fueled by her growing love for designing wedding stationery, Pearlyn seized the opportunity to go full-time when she relocated to Seoul with her husband shortly after their wedding. That was the beginning of Pearlyn and Paper.
Inspired by the beauty of weddings and love stories, Pearlyn strives to translate her couples’ unique love stories into lovely illustrations that hold a special meaning for them or represent them as a couple. “As much as wedding invitations are just a piece of paper, it’s the first impression your guests will have about your wedding,” Pearlyn shares. “Since first impressions are lasting, more attention and thought should be given to the designing of wedding invites to help your guests look forward to your big day.”
In fact, Pearlyn’s designs are more than just illustrations and first impressions. They are stories of her couples and their weddings. Getting to know them personally and listening to their vision for their invites allows her to identify the main illustrations for their invites before deciding on the complimentary illustrations. With her expertise as a jewellery designer and a diamond grader, she pays great attention to even the smallest details as she illustrates and edits repeatedly until her couples are satisfied with her design. “The sense of satisfaction and happiness I get when my couples tell me how much they love the finished product is nothing you can get elsewhere,” Pearlyn gushes passionately.
An avid fan of floral and fauna, Pearlyn often incorporates them into her designs for a dreamy and romantic finish that’s not overly girly. Her soft, floral and botanical illustrations are greatly sought after by brides who are after a whimsical look. While it is wise to book her services at least six months before your wedding to avoid any disappointment, the actual customisation process from conceptualisation to the final product will take three to four months to complete.
