Melody and Kang Min’s Beautiful Wedding at Chijmes and Four Seasons

Melody and Kang Min planned their beautiful Chijmes holy matrimony and Four Seasons wedding banquet themselves, wanting to simply share what was closest to their hearts.
Melody, 29, and Kang Min, 33, celebrated their nuptials on two love-filled occasions. Wanting simply to share their love with their nearest and dearest, the couple added personal touches to their heartwarming holy matrimony at Chijmes and cosy wedding banquet at Four Seasons Hotel.

How did the two of you meet?
Our story is quite classic, love blossomed despite the grey working environment. To clarify, we weren’t colleagues but got to know each other better through some inter-company related business.
Kang Min: Something stirred within me after my first interaction with her in 2010, and after a few outings, I decided to take the chance to go for it. “30 years down the road when you reflect at your life, chances are you will regret the things that you did NOT do rather than the things you did.” Timely reminder, so I went for it! But I had to endure leaving my confession night at Labrador Park with no answer… and only an agonising wait later did I receive a pleasing answer.
Melody: I was all business when we first interacted. He didn’t leave too much of an impression on me, and it was definitely not love at first sight. It took a number of business conversations (with no hidden personal agenda), and a handful of passing-bys at business functions before Kang Min attempted to arrange lunch between a couple of us on each side. Unfortunately lunch didn’t materialise and it remained solely business. It was only much later that we started chatting on Whatsapp after exchanging numbers for…well, I can’t recall now, but yes that’s how it unraveled into the beautiful mess today! As we spent more time together, we saw along the way a future that included the both of us.
What was the proposal like?
Melody: We were back in Sentosa to celebrate my birthday at a 3 star Michelin restaurant, but there was no proposal and thus, I dismissed the idea in my head that he would propose that night. Furthermore, Kang Min asked me to change into casual clothes for a night walk by the beach which we both love. We strolled along Siloso Beach, back to where we got together, along the sandy beaches. We kicked the sand with our toes, enjoyed the sea breeze and the calming sound of the gentle waves until we reached a spot that was more secluded. Kang Min then said that he had something important to tell me. Silly me, my first reaction was worry, and I wondered if something had happened anywhere or with anyone. However, as he shared his well thought through yet simple confession, it suddenly dawned upon me where this was going! And on one knee, he fumbled in his beach berms and out came a ball of tissue! That tissue was indeed precious, together with one more gift — he completed a thick scrapbook of our journey, picture by picture, word by word. How could I resist saying yes to this man who made it so simple, sincere and heartwarming.
It was a simple and unpretentious affair. No crowd cheering, no flashing cameras, no hidden agenda. It was just there and then, a selfish moment that we didn’t want to share with anyone but witnessed by God. It was our special moment together where we made the decision to continue on as one. This reminds me of a meaningful Biblical verse of being one in Christ: “… then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.” – Philippians 2:2 (NIV)
What was your wedding theme?
We had no fanciful wedding theme and we didn’t believe in the need for one too! We wanted to reflect our simple love but sharing what matters most to us – to share our unpretentious love to our beloved guests via a cosy and heartwarming setting. We sourced for things we love, overlaid with personal touches which included a talented string quartet who were able to play our specially requested songs, a sand art version of our love story, a coffee cart at our solemnisation etc! We also paid a lot of attention to the making of the gowns with Bridal Veil by Michelle Huimin, and the suit-making process to mark the memorable planning process. We wanted to enjoy and savour the once-in-a-lifetime planning process!
We planned every detail of the holy matrimony, from the self-designed invites to the self-designed programmes, dessert table, photo table etc! We also hired a pushcart coffee service to share our love for a good cup of coffee to start the day (which our guests loved!). We picked our own flowers and design and chose Chijmes as our holy matrimony venue to ensure that our relatives who weren’t Christians were comfortable. We topped the event off with live music from a string quartet who played so beautifully!
For the banquet, we delivered our love story via a sand art story that caught the attention of our relatives and friends, and we also ordered a special favour for the guests to take home: a “watch our love grow” seed pack. We were really glad that our guests enjoyed the food, music, and details of it all! ☺
