Make Your Own Wedding Playlist on Spotify

Does music and ambience matter a lot to you? Then you’ll want your own curated songs playlist at your wedding. And Spotify is an excellent DJ.

I predicted this when the track first came out: Spotify has revealed that multi-award winning singer-songwriter John Legend’s ballad “All of Me” is the top choice for tying the knot around the globe and in Singapore. And, as expected, Jason Mraz is the world’s favourite artist for his mellow love songs, with two of his tracks featuring in the global top 20 list.

Spotify analysed over 400,000 wedding-themed playlists worldwide, and found Bruno Mars’ “Marry You”, Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” and even Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” as among the most popular wedding music.

In Singapore, romantic ballads seem to be the preferred song genres for weddings, such as Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years”, and Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love” rounding up the top three, besides Legend’s hit love song.

Now it’s so easy to make your own playlist for your wedding. But how do you narrow down the songs list, when there are so many tracks to choose from? Wedding planner Mindy Weiss, whose clients include Channing Tatum, Gwen Stefani, Heidi Klum and Ellen DeGeneres, suggests choosing your wedding soundtrack based on the personal moments you’ve shared together, keeping in mind what your guests will like, as well as making sure there is a good mix of golden oldies and modern hits to keep people in the mood all night.

Sunita Kaur, Managing Director, Spotify Asia, commented: “Weddings are one of life’s most important milestones and often calls for a lavish celebration in Singapore. Mindy’s insights illustrated the significance of music for her clients’ big day. Not only does music have the power to tell the story of the newlyweds’ relationship, it also sets the celebratory mood for guests and encourages them to strut their stuff on the stage.”

Spotify is available on desktop, iOS, and Android so you can access the playlist easily. In fact, why stop at weddings? Do a playlist for a romantic night in, for a chill weekend afternoon together, or even a list of meaningful songs for that special someone to let her know you want to spend the rest of your life together with her. What a throwback to the ol’ mixed tape from my generation.
