Michelle and John’s Enchanting Engagement Session in Europe
Michelle and John first met 16 years ago, but it was only when they started working together that sparks really began to fly. A cinematic proposal later, the couple’s love soared to new heights in the old world charm of Paris and Venice as they captured beautiful scenes in Europe, filmed by Unique Colours.

How did the two of you meet?
John: We were formerly schoolmates at Temasek Polytechnic from 1999 to 2001. During our three years at Temasek Polytechnic, we were merely acquaintances. I did try to take the initiative to get to know Michelle further, but was turned down politely. We lost contact after we graduated as I went to serve in the National Service and Michelle proceeded to pursue her career in IT.
Michelle: Nevertheless, fate brought us together in 2006 when John joined Surbana Technology as a junior systems analyst. I had already been working with Surbana Technology since 2004. We became good “buddies” ever since. After being through many ups and downs together, we finally got together in 2010. We had been dating for five years when we decided to tie the knot in 2015.
When did you realise that this was the person you wanted to marry?
Michelle: When I started to visualise living together with John, painting images of what our future home would be like and even dreaming about the number of kids that we would have in future.
And John, you helped those visuals come to life in a cinematic proposal! How did you pull that off?
John: It’s a project which was carefully executed with extreme precision and coordination at Cineleisure cinema.
I will let the video speak for itself.
You also captured beautiful moments during your engagement sessions overseas. Where did you go?
Michelle: Our outdoor pre-wedding shots were taken in Europe, in Paris, Venice, and Bruano, by Unique Colours. It had always been our dream to do something different yet memorable for our pre-wedding photography. We picked Europe knowing that it’s the land of romance, with beautiful landscapes.
Our indoor pre-wedding shoot was done by our bridal shop. The theme is “Simple and never out of fashion.”
What did your guests have to say about your wedding videos?
John: Our friends and families have termed our wedding as the event of the year after reviewing our proposal video.
Tell us a little bit about your wedding celebrations.
John: Our wedding was held on 1 March 2015. It’s the same day as our date of engagement. Our initial plan was to have an outdoor garden wedding. We couldn’t find a suitable outdoor venue to fit all our invited guests. We eventually selected Intercontinental Hotel Singapore, which could offer something close to what we wanted. We were attracted to the chandeliers, which brought a different dynamic to our themes.
Michelle: As a once in a lifetime mega project, we definitely spent most of our weekends meeting the vendors and vetting through the schedule, guest lists, venue design and props design. One of the special ideas that we have incorporated was replacing the traditional ring pillow with a specially built LEGO set as John is a big fan of LEGO.
Our solemnisation session fell on the same day as our wedding lunch. We wanted to keep the ambience relaxed and easy. Therefore, our theme was “country road,” with greeneries. Most of our decorations and outfits were handmade to fit into this theme.
We wanted to capture all the special moments and emotionss of our friends and families celebrating this special day with us. Some of the shots were candid.
