Dreams Can Come True

Some dreams do come true, as with the dream wedding of Mark Teo and Swee Suan Chiew. Not only did the wedding of their dreams become a reality, it was also all paid-for, courtesy of their own fairy godmother – Singapore Marriott Hotel, who fulfilled its largest wedding promotion in history with the free grand wedding celebration worth $50,000.

In May 2009, Singapore Marriott called on all soon-to-wed couples to share an aspect of their wedding which they considered the most important, and why, for a chance to win an all-expense paid wedding dinner at Singapore Marriott. Amidst the overwhelming response of more than 400 entries, the lucky couple, Mark Teo and Swee Suan Chiew caught the judges’ eye.

Ms. Swee wrote in her winning entry, “As every other girl, I yearn to look my best, to be beautiful and princess-like for that one special day. Dreaming of a dazzling entrance into the Grand Ballroom with my prince charming on my right, the banquet venue is definitely at the top of my to-do list. With high spirits, my hubby and I started on our wedding hotel “hunt” only to be vexed with the limited choices constrained by our budget. Marriott, I am humbly going down on a bended knee and proposing that you grant me my wish of the best fairy-tale wedding ever!”

Indeed, a fairy-tale wedding was what transpired on 27 June 2010. With the dreamy Pure Bliss theme as a fitting backdrop, the beautiful couple celebrated their marital nuptial with almost 400 of their family and guests. “Initially, due to budget constraints, we were planning a wedding with just 24 or 25 tables. With this wonderful gift from Marriott, we were able to increase our guest list to invite more family and friends,” shares Mr. Teo.

On winning the biggest prize of the night, both were pleasantly surprised. Mr Teo says “it’s unbelievable and overwhelming! Out of so many people who participated, we won! We feel like we’ve won lottery!”

Big on creativity, with a ‘dare to be different’ approach, the Singapore Marriott creates new experiences for wedding couples year after year. “This is the inspiration and driving motivation,” explains Antony Page, General Manager. “We want to understand which aspect of a wedding preparation is most important to the couple and how we can be a part of that. What better way than to hear from the couples themselves.”

Lastly, Mark quipped, “Will Marriott offer this amazing promotion again? All my friends want to know!”
