I hv to travel to New Dehli India soon for a 2 month work trip. Has anyone been there? How was it like? Is it safe? Anything to look out for?

New Dehli is quite ok. Traffic conditions is better than Mumbai. Not sure when is the winter but heard it can get pretty cold. So, do your homework on the weather for your entire period.

In India, main thing is be very careful with the water you consume. I brush teeth with drinking water as well. Things like salad and fresh fruits, try to minimize. Since you will be there for 2 months, buy fresh fruits from the supermarket and wash and cut them yourself.

For cars, normally, its better to book the cab for the entire day. And the driver will wait for you. Hotel pricing is on the high side, so do make sure your credit limit is sufficient.

I tend to put on weight on my trips to china and india. So, u might want to do some exercises in your free time there.

Hi nc, avoid drinking anything from bottles, unless you are absolutely sure, that they are not refilled. And make your own ice cubes from min water.
I keep to can drinks and only water purchased at the hotels.
Get the hotel to pick you up, it is not exactly an developed country nor public safety assured.
...

Do not take ice cubes from outside. My friend had food poisoning and he suspected that it came from the ice cubes.

Whenever u in taxi, lock the doors. If u see pple pulling an animal past ur car or somethg, do not take pic. I was in a cab and took a pic of a bear leashed by someone n that person knocked on my glass demanding $$$$.

I was in mumbai for 3 wks and dehli for 1 wks. Other than hotel and workplace, I dont venture outside. But I went to taj mahal one wkend. Seriously nothing to wow about. Got conned by the person fetching me there. He overcharged me, etc.

Have u ever seen pple sleeping on road dividers at night? pple(Adults not kids) peeing and squatting and shitting by the side of the road in the morning? I saw these in Mumbai. It is quite funny talking about this. We pass by this field every morning and there will b pple squatting in differnt parts of the field, shitting. Then in the evening, we pass by the same field, pple are playing soccer in that field. OMG! They practically play, shit and eat in the same place

sunnyflower... you have this in many areas in the world. In Jakarta, they rent kids to beg on the street lying dangerously in the dividers.

Er, i was there in india for a few visits, did not like the social aspect of it.
I was out to a visit from hotel, there was an accident and some guy apparently dead in the trishaw motor what ever.
When i came back, the guy was still there.
It is only after i saw what was there, that sg is a paradise in terms of infra..
Of course sg has lots way to go to catch up with other 1st world.

milo, I have also heard about that in Jakarta... the colleauge who went with me to Mumbai said that Jakarta also like that but Mumbai worse... There are crows everywhere feeding on leftover heaps of trash on the roads. Pple cooking by side of roads and living in tents in front of an office building. Pple bathing in canals in front of a building of a MNC bank. It is where the rich and poor live side by side. V depressing sight. If u want ur kids to realise how fortunate they are, bring them to India.

One of my indian colleagues moved to SG, said that he is very shameful of his gov...He says that Shanghai and Mumbai has almost the same length of history. But compare Mumbai & Shanghai. Heaven and hell

oh sunnyflower, the smell is really bad

Good or bad, depends on what you are looking at. I really appreciate the way the drivers drive in India. Optimize the road and minimize the congestion despite the clear overcrowding. The traffic doesn't go to a sure stopper like in Bangkok or Jakarta. They might be horning and keeping very close distance with each other. But, they do not block each other in lose-lose scenarios. They will horn like hell but once the driver have cut in, they just let them through.

The next time you are there, observe if what I said it true.

u have problem with indian food? Its pretty good actually. I have been eating in the hotels or with restaurants my colleagues brought me. Haven't explored for restaurants myself. by the end of your trip, do share your food reviews

Food is not a problem even if you don't like Indian food. There are international selection in most bigger hotels and many restaurants.

There are Chinese and Japanese take-aways.

But if you are a little adventurous - the local fare is very good.

milo, yes the smell is really bad... it is not the typical indian smell... the whole place smells like a giant toilet bowl... It seems that pple pee everywhere on the streets. In the morning, it is common to see guys peeing against the wall by the side of the roads. N where do u think those pple living in tents do their business? In front of the office building lor...

yah... its basically shit smell everywhere on the outside. I didn't realize how bad it was on my 1st trip as I was having flu. When I returned the next time, then I realize its stinks.

Actually, in SengKang and Pungol, they have bad smell problem from the dumping ground as well. If the wind direction is from there, it stinks badly. These are feedback from friends residing in that area.

I have been staying in Sengkang for 1.5 yrs and I have encountered that smell as well but it was only in the recent months. I thought it came from some cow dung fertilizers cos it smelled like that

sm, is your aircondition switched on most of the time?

Tampines dumping ground. you can google for its location.

tampines ?

that is quite a distance away..

I google for sengkang.. and recently there has been complains from some construction site in punggol.. being illegal dumping grounds and that is where the smell is from.

Tampines dumping ground.. I don't think can smell leh - so far away

Although its called tampines dumping ground, its not quite at tampines. But, u r right, it could be due to illegal dumping.

Tampines dumping ground is in Lorong Halus.. yes it is between tampines town and punggol.. the stretch is part of Tampines the kumpung many years ago.

It used to be army training area as well.. I used to topo there..

My friends in India are warning about "potential unrest" in India.. some warnings about travelling to India now..
