Hi Lilian,

Not wanting to discourage you since you are probably on a budget, but just wish to put things in perspective. The local tax for wines is $9.50 per litre, or $7.125 per 75 cl (750 ml) bottle. Taking away GST from the $12.90 per bottle wine, the wine costs $12.28 per bottle. That leaves about $5 for the wine maker and all the middle men. Assuming the middle men take $3, you are paying $2 for the wine maker. How good a wine can you get for $2? I can tell you without tasting that it would (with 99% probability) be light-bodied / watery / tannic / short finish.

In France, for EUR 1 (about SGD 2), you get everyday drinking light-bodied table wines which will not stand up nicely to any dinner banquet. Since this is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, you may not want to use such wines. But of course we have our own budget constraints so sometimes we have no choice. Just don't expect anything decent and you are less likely to be disappointed.

Lilian,

what Raymond said is true. My wholesaler that sold me wine for wedding, he also explained to me the same thing, what I pay and what I get. He said he can give me cheap wine but the taste will not be as nice. And since is wedding and want everyone to have a unforgetable night, why not have a nice wine with nice food and with the pretty bride and handsome groom...

And indeed, he is very honest. The wine that he recommended me and my husband really nice.My inlaw and my parent like it a lot and few of my guests even called us after our wedding to ask what is the wine name and where to get. We even kept the rest of the wine for ourselves.
And the wine affordable for our wedding and worth paying for.

Hi Janice,
Can share with me ur wholesaler?
Which wine u get & how much.thanks

Hi Raymond,
THanks for the comments

Hi Janice,

Do you remember exactly what wine your wholesaler recommended for your wedding banquet? The vineyard name, grape variety, and vintage? Cost per bottle inclusive of GST?

Just want to keep note of the cheap and good wines.

Thanks.

Edit: Sorry I saw your posting above. Stupid me for not reading first.

Hi Raymond,

the wine that the wholesaler recommended is Red Deer Station 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon. As for the vintage I not very sure.

This wine is selling in 7-11 and Giant @ around S$25, and I got it from him @ S$18 + 5% GST. This wine good, my father-in-law and my dad still continues to take order from him for normal drinking.

Hi Ahxue,

he does provide some sampling for the wine. As for his retail shop I think is in the process, cause I heard from him that he is opening a retail shop soon, but then he still sell wholesale price to people.
So maybe you can call him up and check with him about the wine tasting thing and for more information.

Hi CY...may I know which wine you choose? I have placed order with the same shop for the calfornia wine $15 but din buy a bottle to try.

Hi CY,

Our big day was in June 2006, went to Switzerland, Italy, and France for honeymoon (on our own in July) and came back already.

Our wine supplier was very good. We returned all unopened bottles for a full refund. We even returned all our hard liquor (full refund again) because no one touched it. She was so nice to give us a full refund but did charge us transportation and I agreed because we did not consume even a single bottle of hard liquor (probably because our wine was go good!).

nov1, i dun remember the name of the wine.. only know its $15. Think should be the same one, yiou should go get a bottle to try.. its very smooth and goes well with the dishes.

raymond, i'm sure you have enoyed ur honeymoon, june-july should be a good time but must be quite hot.. i went europe a few yrs back, backpack with hubby to be for a month.. came back with very bad rashes especially at italy.. it was so so hot..

btw, care to share the contacts of ur supplier?

Hi Jo,

already sent you the email regarding Mr ST's contact.
He does have few ranges of wine from S$16 to S$18 ( +5% GST)for wedding and he does have consignment, minimum order 12bottles.

Hi CY,

Our honeymoon was great because we did not join a tour group but rented a car and I drove around. All the freedom in the world, and we didn't get lost at all. Tried to visit as many non-touristy and non-crowded spots as possible, but yet spent enough time (most places three nights) so it did not feel like touch and go and we had a chance to explore the place. The fruits there are so nice and fresh.

It was not hot when we went, we just missed the heat wave. But whatever it is, it never feels as hot as in Singapore due to the lower humidity. The sun is also never as strong due to simple physics and geography laws.

Our only gripe is that certain places (Venice, Zermatt, Interlaken) were too crowded, especially Venice; it is just swarming with tourists! So lost the romantic feeling. May would have been the best time.

For our wine supplier, google for "Wine Amigo". Tommy is the guy and you can mention my name if he remembers us. Our wedding was June 2006 at Conrad.

Hi All..

I'm having my wedding dinner on 18/12/2006, May I know when should I approach those wine supplier for my dinner ar?

Hi Jo,

The sooner the better? They may need to bring in the extra stock you require and that takes time.

Yes, try to go for those suppliers with high turnover. It also depends on the clientale of the supplier; if they are knowledgeable and know how wine ought to be stored, chances of coming across a cooked wine is much lower.

Hi Smiles,

of course can share with you the contact. The wholesaler person in charge is Mr ST Leow and his contact number is 98582633....

Hi all any one has any other contacts apart from Mr ST or winebos?

I called Mr ST and spoke to him. He told me that he was busy and that he would get back to me, however he did not. In the end I sms him, and he said to contact me and arrange for a meet up to hand me some samples this week. But I have yet to hear from him

Btw, I had wanted to try the wine that Mr ST recommended so i went to carrefour at PS , cold storage and shop and save but I couldnt find it. Brand of wine is Red Deer Station. Anyone tried penfold or rosemount? Matthew Lang?

I am a novice, so do give me some pointers. Thanks

Hi ahxue,

I think Mr ST is quite busy lately.
As for the wine, I used Red Deer Station for my wedding and have very good feedback. And some of guests actually asked me to order some from the wholesaler.
Feedback from my guests that the wine very smooth and is full bodied.

Hi brides, I have 12 bottles of red wine and 4 bottles of white wines left frm my wedding selling very cheap cos I am pregnant now and my husband is not a wine drinker.

I had very good feedback about Red Deer that I served too. I don't fancy red wines very much but when I tasted this, it was very palatable so even for novice wine drinkers, they will enjoy it.

Red wine = Red Deer Unoaked Cab Sauv (S$17 per bottle)

White wine = Penfolds Rawsons Retreat Sauvignon Blanc (S$24 per bottle)

Take all 16 bottles at S$280. You can sms me at 97771374 if keen.

Hi Raymond and Janice.

Thanks for the advices.

Janice,I managed to meet up with Mr ST. He is a very nice guy. He doesnt carry Penfolds or Rosemount, but Red deer station and billy-goat. He passed me the samples generously.. I do not really take wine so i passed it to my fh's parents and friends. They like it pretty much.. so i am going to order from him..

Hi ahxue,

you are most welcome
happy.gif

Ya he is a very informative guy, even now if I have any enquries for wine, i will call him and he will give me good suggestions and still as friendly. Quite helpful.
happy.gif

I used Red Deer for my wedding and a lot of guests love it, and till now some of my guests actually called and get his contact from me.
Which Red Deer Station variety you ordering from him, Cabernet Sauvignon is great!

I am getting mine from ST Leow. I got his contact via this forum too. He is quite a nice person. He gave me 2 bottles and 4 cans of red wine to try. I am getting billy-goat @ $17 per bottle. I think if u get it outside, it will cost 20+.

sorry if i sound ignorant, but is there a minimum number of bottles of wine to purchase if we want it on wine consignment?

coz my hotel already provide 1 bottle per table, and if i order by wine consignment, eg 1 carton.. but i never use at all, can return everything rite? got any delivery charge or hidden cost?
